A couple questions if possible? I know Magnuson’s big claim is safe integration and conservative tuning. How many miles have you guys put on the tune so far? And as far as safe conservative tuning, do we sacrifice anything here in longevity of the drivetrain with this new tune? Appreciate the info!

Our house 4Runner is a 2011MY with 262k miles on it with the last 21-22k of those being supercharged and tuned, getting abused with various test calibrations. Still running strong! Hopefully that helps answer your question.

That actually does. Thank you for the extra information. The gains from the tune alone I bet make a world of difference on top of the supercharger. Looking forward to trying this out.

@mZiggy So with your Stryker Tune for the Magnuson S/C, 318whp/369tq is very comparable to a 5.7L V8 tundra isn’t it? Those dyno from last I saw I believe 317whp and 334tq. Wouldn’t it be almost as fast if not faster if the 4Runner isn’t loaded up with a bunch of gear and let’s say even on 33’s?

This is a tricky question, because this is a comparison of apples to oranges really...they're two completely different platforms, through the whole powertrain. Just because it displays similar power on the dyno doesn't automatically mean that anyone can say it's faster. There are still a lot of aspects that have a role here, from gear ratio to the transmission itself, to the motor, etc.

But, giving the benefit of the doubt, if someone wanted to compare a stock tundra to a supercharged 4Runner...the odds are that the supercharged and tuned 4R will be faster provided that it doesn't have a lot of weight added into it..

@mZiggy i see, that makes a lot of sense! Have you guys seen anyone upgrade the pulleys on the TVS1320’s for the 5th gen 4Runners?

Not really, but I'm sure someone has at one point, even if it isn't a "mainstream" upgrade.

Any need for an upgraded fuel pump with the Magnuson tune?

Not as it currently sits, but if you wanted to seek more power, it'd be recommended. A good example of this is URD's "Godzilla" SC kit for the 5T4R, which is a Whipple 1900 and the kit calls for upgrading the fuel pump as part of the setup/installation.

So the stock Magnuson setup with your tune, no need for an upgrade to the fuel pump? I am taking the above to mean if you start messing with the pulley sizes to make more boost, at that point you would need the upgrade.

In sticking with the stock fuel pump, no concerns of the fuel pump fading with longevity? Main question would be how the tune would handle a situation where the fuel pump starts to struggle to provide fuel. Is the tune capable of compensating for that or does it just get caught in an unsafe lean fuel condition?

This is accurate; it'd be recommended to upgrade the fuel pump if your goal was to begin seeking higher boost pressures and power numbers.

Nothing we've seen yet with our testers or our house truck suggests that there should be concern over decreased fuel pump longevity over the magnuson calibration.

You'd be observing unanticipated lean conditions. The sort of compensation you're discussing would result in a lack of fuel that can't be supplemented because there is already a lack of fuel.

If this leads to knocking, the ECU will retard timing but that by itself doesn't mean that it's safe to just drive around with a faulty fueling system.

Really appreciate that follow up!! My intent is to run the Magnuson out of the box with no modifications outside of tuning from you guys. Sounds like that should be on the safe side and good to go. Really want the throttle and shift logic improvements from your tune coupled with the Magnuson power. That seems to be the sweet spot.

We have an incredibly detailed tune guide that can get you through the flash procedure smoothly, and we're available for support as well, not to mention any of our networked partners near you.

Any chance you guys would release an E30/E85 blend tune for the Magnuson S/C 4runners? I saw thatonegurlstaco on IG who got that tune from you guys.

I would bet an injector change and fuel pump upgrade would be necessary. E85 typically requires 30% more fuel which means you would also only get like 100 miles out of a tank lol.

We'll likely play around with an E30 mix and release something for it a little later on, seeing as we have done so for other applications

So how exactly does this acquisition affect those of us who have gotten a tune from KDMAX?

We will continue to support all KDMax customers. This includes any adjustments or reinstallation of tune, if needed. KDMax customers will also be presented with an opportunity to move to the YW offering should they decide they wish to. Details on that will be coming soon.

We met with with Alex -2019 Tacoma 2.7L AT and Jeff- 2020 4Runner AGM battery and ‘overlanded’. Yotawerx and Quad State Tune were able to flash the proper tune for each to have their rigs performing optimally. It was a pleasure meeting/talking with you both. Give us a call (484) 633-5975 if you’re in the SusquehannaValley. We’ll have you scheduledand tuned expeditiously.
