    Welcome!

I'm in Greendale, but I visit lake country occasionally. My Dad lives a few blocks from Lac La Belle

Where have you been wheeling? All of the places I know of are several hours away.

Thank you. Very cool, yeah I take strolls around Lac La Belle and Fowler quite often.

I grew up in Southern California so ended up going on a lot of fire roads and trails in the San Bernardino Mountains and a couple trails in Northern California.

Where do you normally go? What’s everyone’s favorites?

There's a few nice 4Runners out that way. I see a silver 2nd gen with mud tires in front of AJ's occasionally.

I usually go to the Lakewood/Laona district of the Chequamegon Nicolet National Forest. There are a ton of poorly maintained roads out there, plus the Pipeline.

MVUM maps are essential! Many of the roads are seasonal, and some are ATV only, etc.

Next Tuesday at Petrifying Springs should be fun. It's a bit of a haul from Oconomowoc, though.

Here's a link to the MVUM maps:

    https://www.fs.usda.gov/main/cnnf/maps-pubs

These can be used like a paper map, or GPS active with Avenza maps.

@Zeke-Two Lines I'm in your neighborhood for awhile today. I'm grabbing lunch with my brother at Cornerstone and then stopping at my Dad's to do some chores. Wave if you see me!

Very nice, I haven’t been to Cornerstone since they did the remodel. But I hear it’s nice in there. Unfortunately I’m stuck working but I’ll try and wave quick. Your very nice helping out your pops.

I went to visit a friend from Tacomaworld yesterday, and he took me for a boat ride on Lake Monona. We managed to catch the sunset with the capitol in the foreground. It was better in person, but I managed to get an OK shot.

Going up to chequamegon-nicolet October 1st .. any good spots to play in the dirt? I'll be about 45 minutes southwest of Iron Mountain. Unfamiliar with the area thought I'd ask here!

    Eagle River/Florence district? Or Lakewood/Laona?

There are plenty of poorly maintained forest roads in the Lakewood/Laona district, as well as the Pipeline.

I haven't explored the Eagle River/Florence district as much. The 7 Hour Plane Crash Trail runs through that area, so maybe you can check out some of that.

Here's where you can download the Motor Vehicle Usage Maps for those areas:

    https://www.fs.usda.gov/main/cnnf/maps-pubs

You can use these like paper maps, or open them in an app like Avenza. With a paid membership, Avenza will let you use the maps with GPS so you can be sure where you are. One big benefit to an offline GPS APP is that you will know where you are, regardless of cell reception.

Been on the forum a while but only just now found this thread lol.

@BagOfDonuts @Thatbassguy AFAIK, the free version of avenza will plot your gps position on a PDF map, like the mvum maps. Apparently no subscription necessary for that feature. It will also lay down tracks so you know where you’ve been.

The subscription offers additional stuff, but I dont really get how to use those features.

Welcome to all the new folks!

It will allow the feature to be used for a limited number of maps, I believe. I subscribed in order to have this option for all of the maps I've downloaded.

Very good know. I need to research it a bit more. Ive only used the GPS position feature on a state map, and the lakewood laona mvum.

I could be mistaken. Don't take my word for it. :D
