A little over a year ago I replaced the stock tires and wheels with Falken Wild Peaks and TRD Pro Wheels. BAD BAD BAD shimmy at 60-65mph. I aligned and then I ended up balancing them 3 times. Two different shops and two of those times road force balance and still a shimmy...not as bad but still there.
I swapped the front for the rear tires and that helped a bit more.
I then contacted tirebuyer.com and used the return warranty. Apparently the return and replace warranty only covers two of four tires. Tirebuyer delivered two new tires.
Balanced them and installed them in the rear. This fixed 90% of the issue and i would only occasionally get shimmy. The weather hot cold conditions determined the severity.
Last week I took the rig to get 4 wheel balancing, 4 wheel alignment, and tire rotation and added wheel spacers. It been a year and change since the tires were first installed and ive lived with some sort of slight shimmy.
After last weeks service.....ALL GONE.. POOF GONE

It's tough when one replaces wheels and tires at the same time...when you encounter a balance issue, you don't know if it's the wheels or the tires, and can end up chasing your tail, so to speak...glad you finally got it fixed.

In my case I originally installed the tires on my factory rims. Same shimmy.
Then I bought the TRD rims. Same issue. It was the tires.
Next time I'll go for a different brand tire (BF's). I bought the Falkens because I found them on sale and I found a great discount code for tirebuyer.com. The additional $$ I paid in added balancing and driving around town to different shops ate away at the sale price savings. I could have, for the added cost, gotten the BF's and had money left over. Ohhhh well.

UPDATE: So i went back to the tire shop and they re balanced the tires for me and they swear they are dead on! I get shaking when tires are cold for about the first 10-12 miles on the highway and then after that it settles down to almost nothing. WTF??

I would say not really, i have found it to be the balance is out, and the people balancing them are also out.

Are your Wildpeaks made in Thailand or the USA?

My 1st set (265/70R17 SL) were made in Thailand and were perfect - no shimmy.

I had pretty deep cut on one of the sidewalls and wanted another matching 265/70R17 SL on my spare. Went to Discount Tire and got 2 more tires. They replaced the cut tire for free, since I paid for the insurance. They then put both new tires (made in the USA) on the rear and swapped one of the older ones onto the spare.

I now have some tire shimmy at 60mph that goes away after a few minutes. PSI = 32 per the door sticker. I may try 38 psi.
    I just ignore it.

I have a road trip coming up in January - SW Missouri to Key West Florida. Plan is to drive it as is for the trip then go up a couple sizes with the addition of SPC UCA's. Haven't decided on replacement brand yet - but probably will not go with Wildpeaks again, as their taller sizes are heavier than the competition.

Mine are all made in Thailand I just checked. They are road force balanced It’s so strange. When I first jump on the highway the wheel shakes and jiggles but after about 10 miles of 60mph+ they stop and they are very smooth. If a tire is out of balance wouldn’t it always be out of balance? Wouldn’t an out of balance tire remain out of balance once it warmed up on the highway? I’m at a loss on this one and I think I’ll have to just live with it

i think that they are not so much out of balance more that the tires are not completely round they have high or heavy spot so at a certain speed they produce a shimmy that's why it goes away at a lower speed or higher speed only shimmy at a certain speed only
at first i thought it was because of Trd Pro wheels but no its the tires none of us had this issue with the Dunlaps did we?

It’s really tire pressure sensitive I’ve adjusted to it after a year plus and as the tires wear the adjustment is quicker
Much less shimmy then when they were new

I'm enjoying early retirement (sounds better than unemployment) - so I don't drive my vehicle everyday.
I think it might just be a flat spot on the tire from the vehicle sitting for a couple days.

I'm still impressed with them. Went through a muddy field to get to one of my favorite spots over the weekend, no issues there and back.
    They are getting loud though.

I had my tires balanced twice but I think I’m done messing with it for now. I’ll just live with it I guess. I can’t take it to Toyota for warranty bc they are wildpeaks and not the OEM tires

So strange. I may try one more road force balance and if that doesn’t fix it then Forget about it. My 4Runner is a 2021 with 1500 miles on it! It has to be the tires! It’s literally brand new!

I put on a set of 285 Cooper Evolution MTs a few months ago and on the trip home from the shop, they had a vibration at 45-60 mph. Crap. Going to have to get them re-balanced. Got home, adjusted tire pressure from 35 to 45 psi, then went back on the highway to town to get them re-balanced. Smooth as glass on the highway. No idea why. They've been perfect ever since.

What tire pressure? LT tires should be run at ~40 PSI (COLD) on the 4Runner. 32 PSI for Passenger rated tires.
