I just quoted few vehicles for fun and surprised 4Runner is the cheapest so far with exact same details..

So let’s just drop this thread.. OP’s experience is purely anecdotal, has zero replay value.

there are hundreds or thousands of variables in play for a given insurance quote…

Still it's highly interesting to see what people are paying in other states and also the comparison of other vehicles, so I enjoyed the read.

My insurance jumped 70-ish percent moving from VA to TX and I’m sure that was also partially fueled by the Hyundai/Kia theft/vandalism trend but otherwise risk of hail and extra miles getting around.

Switched to the newer 4Runner and it was bumped up a couple bucks monthly. Currently at $826/6 months. Doesn’t strike me as particularly unreasonable.

My 2021 TRD/ORP/MR is 3 Grand a year. That's with a clean record and 100/300/100 Liability, 500.00 ded comp. (with ACV windshield), and coll., UM, rental car, towing, etc. But then, I turn 74 next month. Most companies (if state allowed) start increasing rates after about 65. Add to that ref Post #31 above hits everyone.

What part of Texas? I'm in the DFW area and paid $1292 for a 1yr policy with Progressive. I haven't had any tickets or accidents in 10yrs, and have a credit score in the 800's.

Damn you guys get raped in other states.

    Wifes 2022 RX350L $630/year
    My 2018 Tacoma $560/year

I do get a small discount on everything since I have auto, boat, home & life insurance with State Farm.

My boat is the crazy one and its used the least. $2k/year.

I just used fake name, address, dob, etc just to check the difference between other vehicles to see if 2024 4runner has more premium than 2024 Ford Raptor. Looks like that's wrong.

Also DFW, same deal with tickets, credit score and one accident (other driver's policy picked up the tab for (Geico) with the old vehicle - thanks dashcam) with USAA.

I'm a nervous guy though so my coverage is probably ratcheted up and I'm still under 30. Gotta price out alternatives soon but I'll probably have to take my renter's with me.

Ah, that explains it. The accident and your age. I'm late 40's. I've noticed that insurance companies give a reduced (but not by much) for married people vs single people. They also reduce your rates if you have a college education. Especially if you have post-grad education.

At any rate, there's nothing I can really do to reduce my rates.

My 24 PRO costs me under $1000/yr in insurance, and I carry 2-3x what most folks do because Massachusetts is top of the list of litigious states if you get into an accident. My rates are bundled with my house and boat, I have no accidents or tickets at all, AND the most overlooked but best thing is, I have 3 different advanced driving certificates. I've been through skid school, 2 racing schools, a winter driving skid school etc. All of them (minus the racing) lower my premium, and have since I got them at age 16. Average savings on just skid school is 200-300yr and the certificates never expire. When I was a junior operator, they saved my parents even more than that.

Interesting....I just got my 4runner a short while ago and had same question for my agent. I sold my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee and bought the 2008 4Runner and I had to pay an additional $100. I asked my agent and he could not give me an answer as to why it was more for a vehicle 4 years older.

This thread has been enlightening to see that 1 I'm not the only one paying over $1200 a year and 2 my insurance isn't really charging any more than others for my area.

Area i think is the biggest factor in pricing.

That's a double-edged sword. People who keep the minimum limits often aren't worth an attorney's time to try to squeeze out a settlement. I worked for an attorney who wouldn't do it because it wasn't worth his time. People with very high limits are prime targets once attorneys smell the money.

I just asked my agent why my 2005 Ford truck is more than my 2022 Jeep. Almost 20 years newer, and costs $150 less per year. Said it costs more to repair a 2005 Ford than a 2022 Jeep. Seems more than a little odd (it's untrue actually).

Fair point - the red state comment was out of line, I will delete it. I was just responding to the implied political statement about cities.

Mine is cheap but I think Xreas is counted as possible discount as long as they don't find it in the trash

    Some other possible contributing factors...

My little brother is a State Farm agent out of South Carolina and he's having to up rates across the board in response to a huge increase in uninsured motorists. Apparently there's a growing population of drivers out there who've decided the best way to combat insurance costs is to do without.

Also, up here in NJ...although my premium only went up $100/year when I got my '24 Limited last week, a recent state wide increase was just passed up here to increase the minimum required coverages by ~26% because the current limits (which haven't been changed in 30+ years) are no longer adequate with today's costs, etc. should you get into an accident or--worse yet--get sued. So, up go the rates...

Although I live in a high-cost state (NJ), my insurance ony went up a little with the 4R. The increase probably came mostly from it replacing a 14-year old Outback with a KBB of about $4k.

Exactly what we're paying for our 2023 ORP. Before it was $1200, then our provider at the time tried to jack up our rates by $600 for renewal, so we switched and got it down to $1400. My other 2 cars went down from the switch so it offset itself more or less.

Not looking forward to paying the property tax however... Stupid CT
