Why do people buy 4Runner Limited?

There are a LOT of big fat ones around here this year…most I have seen in many years. Hopefully it is the same where you are headed.

 

I see a bunch of fatties walking around this week, too!

 

We have some lined up, hopefully my Son and I can make it happen this weekend!

 

So theres going to be a 50,000 sequoia? I doubt it. Ive had a sr5 premium and now i have a limited. love them both but the limited it so much better, drive comfort, not as bad body roll in the turns. Wouldnt trade it for any other trim because my off road days are done.Im not a retired old man, thatS why i dont want a hylander. 4runner looks 10 times better to me. This is all my opinion, i know others are different

 

Since this thread has shifted to the turkeys, I will share my experience...I grew up hunting (mainly duck & deer) & fishing in Texas. While on the last deer lease that I was on, I decided that I was gonna shoot me a turkey as that particular year we had a lot of rain and they were thick out West. I found a spot under a tree next to a pond where I was assuming they would come to drink. I quickly was fast asleep as I just completed 7 - 12's the day before. When I awoke there was a parade of hens walking down towards the water essentially 15' from me. I watched them all pass and drink and frolic down by the pond. Shortly afterwards I could hear a Tom calling from the opposite direction as it was closing in. When It walked out of the brush it was one of the most amazing creatures that I have ever seen. It blew that chest out, fanned that tail, spread his wings, and started serenading those ladies with a beautiful call that literally gave me chills. I drew a bead on him, but couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger. Who am I to destroy such a glorious creature. I wouldn't want to have to explain that one to God one day. Anyways I ended up shooting one of the hens and my plan was to pluck the complete bird and roast it. After fighting it for 30 minutes and needing pliers to pull the feathers out, I decided just to breast it out like how I clean ducks. When I stripped that breast skin back I discovered the nastiest red bloody meat that I had ever encountered. It stunk so bad that I ended up chunking it out into the pasture for the coyotes. I actually heard them outside fighting over it as I dozed off to sleep that night. I have actually been invited on several turkey hunting trips since then without any intentions of shooting one. Hanging out at the camp, sipping scotch, & playing poker was my targeted activities!

 

Turkey is mmm mmm good!

 

My favorite Wild Turkey is 101 proof from Kentucky! We eat boudin stuffed bacon wrapped pen raised white turkey breast from local meat market at my house for Thanksgiving.

 

Can't stand those birds. I've counted flocks of around a hundred in my yard and they crap all over the place. Here's a photo of part of one flock. Couldn't fit them all in one picture.

 

I bought a 2016 Limited knowing it was full time 4 wheel drive. It has the option to lock the centre diff in high and has a low range if needed. I have had 3 Landcruisers, all diesel and used them extensively off road. I kind of got that out of my system years ago and just wanted a comfortable and reliable 4X4. The Limited has all the options I want leather, air, heated and cooled seats and will still let me travel off-road if its not too challenging. We have Winter for 6 months here and I won't be with out a 4X4. I know it won't be as capable as a Landcruiser or an SR5 or Off Road 4Runner but it's plenty capable for me.
ps. I really miss my Landcruisers. BJ42, BJ60, BJ74.

 

Amen. Biggest vehicle regret was selling my 100 Series LC.
Limiteds have much going for them. Especially without the 20s as ride quality will increase off and on road.
If KDSS was substituted for XREAS, I would have gotten a Limited most likely.

 

I’m so glad I got a limited. If I’d gotten one of the TRD models I first considered, I might have traded it in by now. The brake dive and body roll (which I found irritating even with KDSS) would have worn on me. Or at the least it would have accelerated my purchase of an additional car, while also poss constraining my choices to ones with full time AWD — when for a second option in the driveway I’d really prefer a RWD sports car.

My only knocks on the Limited relative to the other models:

1. 20” wheels are kinda dumb (now remedied on mine)
2. The fake wood trim above the glovebox is cheesy. Stop pretending to be a luxury vehicle. No matter how many features Toyota adds, it will never be a luxury vehicle.
3. A bit too much chrome (I don’t mind a little)
4. I guess the front bumper hangs down a bit lower than on the ORs? If so, that’s form over function.

 

KDSS wouldn't affect brake dive. It only affects side to side body roll. Most aftermarket suspensions help with the brake nosedive. But, maybe not as well as X-REAS.

 

When I bought my 4runner from longo toyota (one of the highest volume toyota dealers in the us) a wile back, the finance guy was telling me they has a parking lot full of brand new fj cruisers they couldn't give away even at a heavy discount, no one wanted them

I've seen some modded Limiteds that looked pretty sweet. I guess if you're willing to pay extra for more functionality?

And I like our turkeys. My cat doesn't. And my neighbors with the perfect landscaping shoot at them.

 

I like all the stuff on the Limited.

I had a ‘93 Limited and an ‘04 Limited. They all did what a 4x4 was supposed to.

I have a ‘75 Bronco and a side by side to get down and dirty with.

 

I guess it depends on what you want. I don't believe a locker is available on the GX, so I'll take the 4Runner for off-roading. For towing, and comfort, I'd take the GX.

By all rights we should’ve bought a Limited but the reported X-reas reliability had me spooked a little. I also prefer the manual 4wd lever to electric knob.

 

X-reas reliability had me spooked a little - That is true. It will leak at some point just like any other shock / system with hydraulic fluid. On the other 4Runner forum I see 2003 Xreas still running at 192K miles vs some got leak at 125K miles, "around 140-150K Miles", etc. If it ever fails you can remove XREAS and replace with any shock that fits a 4Runner.
I did remove my XREAS beacuse I wanted a lift but I never got the comfort of XREAS with any of my lifts.

manual 4wd lever to electric knob - I too had that feeling. After I got my first TRD I was still hearing clicking and later I realized they all have electronic diff actuators. So now I don't care if its manual / knob.
But I do like the fulltime 4wd system. Really good on winter vs using 4H.

 

Yeah, we also decided to get the KDSS since most of our driving will be on the street/twisty mountain roads. We always have Goldie as our “I don’t care” 4x4. When I retire Goldie this one will have a chance to get dirty, but Goldie might outlive me. We just love Toyotas and decided to treat ourselves to a nice TRD in retirement.

Edit: you can take the boy off the farm but you can’t take the farm out of the boy…..

 

My dreams when I get some money - LC80.. This is my buddy's 80 series. Triple locked from factory.
Next is bead lock wheels (already purchased) and 35in tires.

 

Not trying to hi-jack the thread but somebody mentioned the manual 4H 4L lever. Driving in 2WD if I put my hand on the lever I can feel vibrations from the drive train. The vibration level increases as I advance the throttle. Just wondering if this is normal?

 

Yes, it's normal. That lever is directly linked to the transfer case.

 

Thanks. That's kind of what I thought but it's been so long since I had a 4WD vehicle that wasn't either AWD or had a button on the dash to push to switch it to 4WD I wanted to be sure.

 

Not only is it normal, but that direct linkage is the reason some 4runners owners specifically want that lever.

 

Why do people buy landcruisers?
Why do people buy luxury 1/2 ton pickups?
Because they can?
Let's face it one could make do with a sedan,that is all most people used to buy.
4X4 were strictly work oriented
Pickups were not crew cab and not luxurious.
In most cases the middle trim is the best value.

 

I have a sport.
Why?
Because it was there to get.
Anyone who has had to replace a vehicle recently will know what I mean.
I saw it put a hold deposit on it( I was told it was the off road),when I got there to look at it someone else was already trying to get it.
Wouldn't of been my first choice, but I like it a lot,the look everything, maybe not the 20s but hey who is counting..
I am not modding it for offroad, did the offroading thing for work years ago in toyota trucks, it reminds me of those ,it's nostalgia I guess.Reminds me of the old FJ landcruiser on startup a little.
Have driven one of those with the 3 speed manual,a series 2 Landrover,Mitsubishi L200 pickup,the 2.2 gas hilux with the solid axle front end and 3.0D diesel hilux independent front suspension. Not a 4wd expert by any means but know what they are and what they can do.
Still got a sport, actually think it is a great trim.

 

Scotty is full of it.
The GX is just a dressed up prado with a gas V8 instead of a turbo diesel,why would it break more than 4runner.
Prado is a legend,light landcruiser.
Highlander is actually quite good in the snow,helped by its weight.
