Why crossovers can't articulate?

    Lifting a tire off the ground aint all that bad as long as you can gently put it back on the ground. My driver side front tire is just skimming the ground in this hill climb pic.

    I just started watching this channel recently! Not necessarily the right tool for the job, but I enjoy the videos. For milder stuff though, it's more than capable for the stuff most "0verlanders" do. (He has another video where a buddy in a Highlander does quite well. I always say, if you don't need offroad capability, Highlander > 4R)

    I started to watch this video, then decided to what the Southern portion first. There was a WK Grand Cherokee that walked right up an obstacle that a 5th gen T4R had trouble with. Gotta say I was pretty impressed.

    Yeah, I like to see what people can do with what they got, and want to try to improve. Sounds like this fellow has a manufacturer that's willing to start producing parts(to enhance it's overlanding ability). Good for them. As the old saying goes in the car business, there's a butt for every seat.

    Mine are 285/70R17 Yokohama Geolandar Mud Terrains. I believe Kayla has the same size Falken Wildpeak Mud Terrains. So no on the tall skinnies.

    I tried watching both videos and gave up. He / they just go way too slow on those trails for me. I get it and I started off that way myself. It's a sign of someone new to off road.

    If I had to guess I bet the T4R was in 4 high and didn't use his locker.

    @DRobs you are correct! They told him not to use the locker. o_O

    I definitely would have had mine engaged for that section.

    I can't say for sure if he was in 4hi or 4lo, but he definitely should have been in 4lo.

    Probably needed to air down too. The rear locker allows you to take BAD but FUN lines.

    No pics, but I went out on the trail yesterday, on my own, with a buddy riding in the passenger seat. Goal was to scout out some new areas. I aired down to 20psi, used 4low, but purposely forced myself not to the use my locker or any of the traction aids for the whole trail. The 4Runner did good even going up some steep slippery off camber inclines. Needed to use a little more throttle in a few places.


    Mentioned this before but, late spring I had a friend w/ an almost matching 4Runner OR join me on the trails. He has an Icon suspension. We headed downhill to the lower section of Glade Top Trail and hit a muddy area with deep ruts. I bypassed the worst of it climbing up a steep grassy wet side camber section. I hopped out of my 4Runner after watching my buddy struggle to follow my line.

    I walked over to him and he's like "That's it I'm stuck! I'm stuck!"
    I calmly asked him - are you in 4low? He answered "No I'm in 4 high!" I told him, put it in neutral, switch into 4low. Now turn on your rear locker. He did so and climbed right up that wet side hill.

    You just got learn your vehicle but the 4Runner will climb some amazing things.
