My advice, be calm. As far as I know its a dealership only repair job. Don't go with blame game. Even seen stock vehicles having kdss problem. As I remember the front part is 1800 bucks + labor. Try the happy friendly role. Hope it would be just another part replacement job just like a blown shock.

Nice, that's good I really hope you get taken care of, or don't pay a lot.
Maybe don't hold ur breath though regarding 4x4 shop.
I took my Runner back to my local shop, pretty good rep place in the city, and they said after my passenger inner and outer tie rods came apart at the threads and stripped them all (drivers side was starting to as well) that I should have been inspecting regularly that the jam nut was never backing off/loosening.
Obviously they do an alignment after lift wheels tires and more. Afterwards never looked closely under there at stuff like that and they said well you should - they do checks on their own trucks periodically. So the shop did nothing for me but a break on labour for repair, which I did accept.

You think the whole part is damaged or is it just that ring that got loose? The truck drives fine, I haven't noticed any difference.

If oil not leaking and no warning on dash it probably a false alarm. Do an inspection. My prayers it be a false alarm and no hit to your wallet.

That ring is to keep the cover in place protecting from elements. Inside that it's a shock like thing.

I do not think the whole "part" is damaged. Think of it like a torn balljoint boot. I believe, without looking back at your post, at least one of your OEM pressed metal billet locking clamps failed. You can replace them and center your sway that may have slightly shifted.

From the factory, to keep the sway bar from shifting to either side, Toyota uses a combination of rubber straps (glued and band-strapped) and pressed-on metal straps on each end. Any driving outside of normal daily driving will cause those straps to eventually fail. Depending on the situation (mainly off-roading), too much articulation can cause the sway bar to shift over way too much to one side which can result in the kdss shock body making contact with the frame.

KDSS is very important to me. I can't imagine not having it, very used to the truck's road manners now. I will be prepared for the worst and throw money at it to keep it.

I've been on the road, so I'm late to the party. The 4R is my retirement vehicle, so I spent a long time choosing. My primary application is getting to backcountry trailheads and sleeping in back before and after backpacking adventures, with lots of highway miles in between. I was looking for real off-road capability, road-trip comfort and capacity, and of course reliability. I had enough experience with Wranglers to know I wouldn't enjoy one on a road trip. I also experienced most of the popular crossovers and pickups over the year as rentals. I rented a 4R once, really liked it and filed that away for future reference. A few years later I was doing the research and it quickly floated to the top of the list and nothing current came close to dislodging it.

As I said, my Jeep was the ultimately worst vehicle I have ever owned. Cost us more in repairs than the payments totaled. The Jeep STOPPED DEAD on the Columbia River Bridge between Portland and Vancouver. Got to a gas station, got it started in a 1/2 hour and drove non-stop 4 hrs. home over the Cascades. Traded it the next day for a X-Terra (much better rig in the Cascades). As a retired USFWS Wildlife Biologist and an avid hunter in the Sierras, Mojave, Rockies and Uintas, I drove about every kind of 4WD you can imagine from a Subaru BRAT (My first 4WD and much better than the Jeep) to 2 FJ40 Land Cruisers that I had. I've had two Toyotas go over 200K and one went well over 300K miles (My Pre-Taco truck). The Jeep died with 75K mils on it!

BTW: The 4Runner is the best I've had in an SUV! Bar NONE!!! Out of likely 75 different models I drove for work and play in the city, deserts or mountains!!

Maybe sadly he works for Jeep and was digging for information to improve sales. Kidding of course. . . . . but you never know

IMG_1709_Original.jpg Love them both. Only jeep repair was a thermostat at 78,xxx. Not all are bad, admittedly odds are better with the T4R.

Nough said...fuel and module dead with less than 10k.

For the flex ramp, a Sasquatched Bronco is going to flex less than a Bandlands with 33's due to the bump stops limiting uptravel. Also a 2021 Bronco will flex more than a 2022+ due to the added rear sway bar, the 21's all came without rear sway bars so Ford could post up better RTI scores to hang with Jeep. That's a Ford, that is not going to happen to a Wrangler, never.

Can you just imagine that happening to you when you are in Death Valley, near that crater.

Listen, our trucks are gas guzzlers, but it's cheaper than getting towed out of Death Valley. Stay away from these new sophisticated machines

Not as high-tech as the new stuff. It is mid 2000 tech.

Because ducks on a dash are stupid as I assume the garage gives a jeep owner one each time it’s in the shop.

So yeah if that happened to me about 2 hours before it would have been about the same situation. Was out deep in the Oregon Owhyee desert.

I did that trail in a rental sedan, no problems. At the time, it was the second hottest day in DV history.

Looks like the Ubehebe Crater area, although there may be other possibilities.

It's a TRD Pro clone minus TRD exhaust and Fox suspension.
I'm a bit of a Toyota fanboy, mostly because or how reliable and well engineered most of them are. I've owned other makes, both Japanese and non-Japanese and Toyotas have consistently been my favorite for multiple reasons. And with that said, I've had nothing but problems with every American car I've ever owned or that friends and family have owned. Not to mention the countless horror stories of engine or trans failure on some models with well under 100k miles. I get there are some reliable American cars, but for the most part you're more likely to have a lot of problems than not. It seems like a lot of Jeep owners accept this is part of the Jeep ownership experience. I've heard Jeep guys talk about engine replacements and rebuilds like it wasn't a big deal and that they'd do it again if they had to. Car problems stress me out and I could never do that, but more power to them for weathering the plethora of issues that come with owning Jeeps and other domestic brands. European models are pretty much the same, except you're paying at least twice as much to fix them. I've heard nothing but frustration and tons of money down the drain with Land Rovers, which is too bad since I really love how the new Defenders look. So yeah, you could say reliability was my main reason for going with a 4Runner, but it's also my love of Toyota/Lexus.

Ubehebe Crater, right. I can't believe you drove on those trails in a Sedan.
