Tons, 40’s, and taco box is definitely built. That being said having a build could mean something in progress. Will it get bigger? Definitely. Am I working on my build? Yes. Is it built? Not yet.

Yeah, that thing is a beast. It was built by RSG, they make sliders and skid plates and such. I've never seen SAS 4Runner in the wild either. It would be a cool project though. The Fab Rats YouTube channel has a SAS second gen Taco, and they did a series where they built another for a customer.

Yeah, when I was younger and was into small blocks and stuff like that, I remember hearing and using this term. I had a square body Chevy, and it needed an engine rebuild, and I had it rebuilt using performance parts. So I told people I had a "built 350". Actually, I got really pedantic and referred to it as a 355, because that's what you get with a .030 overbore on a 350, lol. Then in the early 00s when I was into f-bodies and the associated forums, a big discussion was always what was built versus bolt-ons, and what was considered a bolt on part. Such as, people would say that they ran 11s with only bolt-ons. Well, did you bolt on intake and exhaust stuff, or did you bolt on a set of heads and a new cam? Some people considered a head swap bolt-on, because the head is literally bolted on. Other people considered that a more in-depth mod, because it required disassembly of the top of the engine and tuning to fully take advantage of it. I think anything that requires machining or strengthening of the bottom end is definitely beyond the realm of bolt ons.

End day, it doesn't really matter, as long as it works haha. I guess just know your audience. If you're meeting up with a crowd of rock buggies, don't tell them you'll be bringing a built 4Runner and show up with a 2" level lift and 285s lol.

Side note, the guy I bought my skid plates from had done that. He traded in his modified 4runner for a Corolla, and then in the garage he had a frame and cab of an early '80s Toyota pickup that he was basically building into a buggy. He told me the people that he wheeled with were leaning more toward purposely built buggies, so he decided he didn't want to destroy his 4R trying to keep up with them, and was building the right tool for the job.

Purple, turquoise or chartreuse. I put mine on a switch because sometimes I'll put 32's back on for a road trip for better handling and mileage and with the 32's its no longer necessary so I turn them off. Good question.

I told my wife about this post. She said to me “isn’t it built when the dining room has no more truck sitting in it?” Obviously she hasn’t spotted stuff in the garage.

So stickers are mods and tires/lift is considered built.... um ok.
Let's take it down a notch and stop giving more credit then what's due.
The amount of trophies being thrown around here is insane.

I'm pretty sure the comments about stickers were made in jest. ;)

Hahaha, this thread is funny. I still refer to mine as stock because it mostly is. I have a 2.5 inch lift up front, 2, in the rear, stock UCA's, 1.25 wheel spacers, TRD Pro grille swap, DD S3 fogs, rhino rack, Amazon lightbar, morimoto headlights and taillights.

I think having steel bumpers, a 3+ inch lift, 35inch tires = "built", but I don't know. If you were to ask a Jeeper, I'm sure they consider anything not on 37's stock. ;)

To the OP, we're in the same camp. At quick glance your rig looks "stock", but I totally understand where you're coming from.

You can call it stock, but it aint lol. Coming from the lowly SR5 world, anyone with an aftermarket lift kit is no longer "stock". Now the whole built, build, etc convo im with you 1,000%

That's a really nice looking exhaust tip. I would call it built because if that if nothing else.

Thanks, the exhaust tip is stock. Trust me, my wallet says it's not stock. Thankfully the wife approves of the upgrades now, especially since the car is already 9 years old. Crazy how a nine year old car can look so good.

Oh no you don’t. Maybe if you lifted the front just enough to level it, and restricted alternate tire choices to Nitto Terra Grapplers in 265/70r17, then you could call it stock. Maybe. But as it is, you’re just a poser.

LOL, I know. To me, and to the guys here it's not stock. But when I'm out on the trails and everyone is on 35's and im just sitting on 33's, I look like the baby and I get the "stock" comments. I don't really care too much. It's my daily driver and it gets me everywhere I want to be. I've never loved a car as much as I love this car.
