I wondered why Costco stopped selling Techron by the case. Thanks for that info.

Here’s an interesting map of how gasoline prices vary throughout the US, as of March 2023.

16mpg avg stock. It's because of my short commute, anything I've owned gets the city avg because I only travel 14 miles each way and the warm up time + 80mph hwy. I guess it beats the 12-13 I was getting with my Tundra but I don't drive enough for it to bother me. I just wish it had a larger gas tank.

I've gotten over 21, even with a roof rack, before I added armor and bigger tires. This was all highway, averaging around 65 MPH.

But, a 10 mile test based on the computer's estimated fuel economy doesn't really prove anything, either.

Just curious, was this figure calculated (miles divided by gallons) or off the dash display?

I can easily achieve 22.5 - 23MPG while driving to work in the morning. It's 32 miles, and 98% of it is highway. No stop-n-go traffic. I set the cruise @ 65MPH and just enjoy the ride. There are no hills or elevation changes. I'm in North Central Texas; AKA Flat Land Country!

My rig is almost stock, no lift or heavy armor (but even that wouldn't impact it much), I do have heavier tires. I swapped out the OEM tires for Falken Wild Peaks.

I have been averaging 20.5 for the tank average. Ironically, when driving home from work, I get 18 - 20MPG. I imagine because there's more stop-n-go traffic.

Do you have a roof rack? That's the single worst mileage killer for me (aside from speed and environmental factors).

Tires are probably the next biggest factor for me. But, I've gotten 19.9 MPG on 295 MT's without the roof rack and cruising at ~60 MPH.

What kind of 285's? Load range?

I have 2 sets of tires, AT's and MT's. I use the AT's during the winter. They're load range C, but I'm thinking I'll get SL's the next time around.

No rack at all, just some 45 lb c load 285s. I rarely go over 65mph(which that gets me 19-20mpg) as I don't travel on highway for my commute.

Depends on the situation. It's definitely not the right vehicle for weaving in and out of traffic at high speed. But, it's surprisingly comfortable cruising at 85-90 if there's no traffic.

    I hit 110+ in my 4th gen.

Pulling a 5x8 trailer across the US. Getting as low as 11mpg and as high as 16 mpg. We have a 2022 4Runner stock 2 wheel drive.

This is my new personal best. I even had a few hundred pounds of camping gear loaded up on my way to the lake last weekend. I was pretty impressed with 23 mpg. I think the breeze was at my back though, that had to have been one reason.

Most I've gotten is 23 MPG on flat interstate.

On the same flat interstate, I've gotten 41 MPG in my GTI.

I know comparing watermelons to apples, still interesting to me.

On my same daily commute, (back when I had a 2023 Sonata SEL Plus - for all of 3 months) I would easily get 44MPG. The tank average always hovered around 39MPG. I wasn't even trying to hyper mile. In fact, I would do 70 - 75MPH. In the 4Runner, I have to keep it at 65MPH or else the MPG's drop dramatically.

That whole lower center of gravity thing and less rolling resistance really impacts the mpg's one can get.

Yup that's absolutely correct. The 4Runner is a box that rides high, the air resistance on it is tremendous.

I've never reset the "last reset" reading on any of the 5th gen 4runners I've run, thinking it would show a lifetime reading on mpg...

    My '16 read 19.7 at trade-in, my '18 read 20.8

My current '22 just reached 19.8

I drive maybe 40-50 miles per week. All driving is 4-5 miles / 10-12 min. 98% of my driving is this pattern. I get 15mpg driving exactly speed limits on all roads.

Road trip in July up to Cambria, I did about 900 miles and averaged 21mpg. Peak was 23mpg.

After my OTT tune, MPG was exactly the same in all driving patterns.
