You in the south or south east?
I saw two running back to back, had texas plates, headed west on I20 thru louisiana. They were rolling 10-12mph over the speed limit. This was about two weeks ago, i saw them coming behind me in my rear view and got giddy for a second, they look pretty good. As the first one approached i realized there was another right behind it. They both passed me fast, they were doing +20mph more than me, i was hauling a trailer -10 under the limit. They both had standard white texas tags, i can only assume they are either a dealer or manufacturer long term testers. Seeing as how both were running together, i leaned more heavily towards them being long term testers logging miles.

Yup. One of my least favorite things about owning a Toyota, haha. Most people I've met in person have been cool though.

The Jeep project looks epic, good call on that. Definitely the way to go if you want to focus on challenging trails and don't need it to be pavement friendly. I've low key been keeping my eye out for a LJ in decent shape.

The one I thought I saw was in NC going towards the Wilmington beach area. We had just started heading back north from vacation last week.

Like I said, it was going the other direction on the interstate so I didn't see it for long. The roof rack and body style caught my attention because I knew I hadn't seen it in person before but it had a good look to it

I used to be a jeep fanboy but only because of how long my previous JGC lasted with relatively few, and no major, issues. It was my 3rd after an old JC and previous JGC. I never talked shit about other brands because they were all I owned.

The '14 JGC though has been a different story. Compared to the '04, the major changes were fully independent suspension, 20" wheels stock, plastic "splash guards" rather than steel skids, and no rock rails for the Overland edition. I knew because of those changes it wouldn't be the same offroader as the previous one I had but had hopes it would be as reliable - it wasn't. This is why I now drive a 4runner and poo poo on jeep quality.

I think it was someone on this forum that said it best. It's not that all toyotas are reliable or that all jeeps aren't, it comes down to statistics. If toyotas reliability is 90% then 1/10 toyotas you buy will have major issues so most people will never experience one. If jeeps reliability is 60% then 4/10 jeeps you buy will have major issues so you hear about quality issues from more people and chances are you will experience it for yourself

I think reliability is subjective when it comes to the public. It's based on exposure or how many examples of a specific model are on the road. It would make sense that whichever example has more on the road there could be a higher failure number but that wouldn't indicate that model to be less reliable. Matter of perspective I guess. At end of day, purchase what you want and attempt to maintain it properly.

Volume is another aspect of it. If two manufacturers have the same build quality but one manufacturer sells twice as many vehicles, it would appear twice as many of their vehicles have issues (twice as many complaints). That's where a statistical ratio becomes more relevant.

However, statistics can be found and/or twisted to fit narratives. This is why they are also known as sadistics

I absolutely love these things. They're just so bonkers. They really should do a Gladiator version too.

"Infamous means MORE than famous. This guy, El Guapo, is probably the biggest actor ever to come out of Mexico". Hahahaha

As far as the purpose of this thread though, I wish I kept better track of members, but I'm bad at that. It reminds me though, many years ago on the "Lightfighter" forum, there was an epic thread titled, "A tactical vest made to suit my needs", that was the best thing I have experienced on the internet since it was invented. I used to have tears running down my face and a stomachache reading it, and so did everyone who I ever showed it to. The OP was brand new to the forum (a forum well known for most of its members being legit pipe hitter/ door kicker kind of guys), and he was saying he lived in California, and needed a vest that he could use to "assault enemy encampments from 400 yards", and it had to hold all his hundreds of rounds of 7.62 for his M1A, and tons of shotgun shells for his shotgun. When asked why both a shotgun and a DMR rifle, he said, "The shotgun is my sidearm...I don't mind the weight, I'm tough."

It's actually the Gladiator that needs that V8 to tow more. 392 Wrangler is kind of gimmicky.

Cool to see one with a GM motor! If I had the cash, that's what I'd drop in my 4R.
