What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Still don't see it for $9. I see it.for $90 everywhere.

 

I pulled both Drive shafts yesterday. Trying to achieve transfer case swap

 

I took my 4R to my local dealer this morning. I wanted to get it serviced and inspected since I just bought it from a private seller.
I asked them if they grease propeller/drive shaft, and they said "no". Has this happened to anyone else?

 

They just informed me the battery failed.
Is there a consensus on this forum about the best battery?

Definitely not a consensus but I'll say most batteries in the US are made my one of three companies. We see a ton of different brands... but they are majoritively made by the same couple companies.

If you have a Costco memership I'd recommend the Interstate AGM "Kirkland" 1624803 @ $183. This is the same battery as Interstate Premium AGM MTX-24F @ $255.
Interstate batteries are manufactured by Johnson controls

Edit: Beware AGM batteries may require modifications to your charging system. I did not know this at the time I made this reply.

 

I've read Interstate Batts are not that good anymore, poor quality??? Deka (East Penn Mfg.) seems to be a family owned & good rated battery.

 

Yes they are one of the biggest battery manufacturers in the US. Which AGM battery would you recommend from them? Best price?

 

I was running 2 Optima Yellow Tops, neither lasted. One even had a loose post. I switch to Full Throttle Batteries on a recommendation from a close friend, so far so good, only time will tell.

They're not that far from me & I was surprised when I drove through grounds how big it was.

 

What is charging voltage needed for them? 4Runner alternator does not produce enough voltage to charge most AGM batteries.

Eg -

Damn that’s a great point I haven’t considered. Didn’t realize charging requirements were different.

I have a scangauge II as well and my voltage is about the same as yours.

Outside Air Temperature?
Had to check on old picture from when I installed the Scan Gauge. Temperature read 43F on the dash. Voltage was 13.7. Lights on, Heater on, engine at idle.

I am hesitant to fiddle with the charging system. I was under the impression that an AGM battery wouldn't require any modification. Just drop it in and it would handle the extra load from the lightbar and winch in the worst case scenario. My ignorance

 

Went to the local hobby store to pick up thread to change my steering wheel thread color when I get the heated steering wheel. Pro tip, bring in a part that has the color thread you want to match. Trust that it’s not the same color you think it is.

 

Same here, especially having complected electronics for automatic braking and other safety equipment not going to increase my voltage even by just 1V.

If you want a them black you should find a powder coating shop nearby. It's more expensive but will hold up for the life of the vehicle... Being that it's a 4Runner, that's saying something

Well didn't get around to installing them all but here is a build list of what's to come this weekend. Already loving how easy everything has been to install. The Blaze Offroad kit/wiring is top notch this will be my second vehicle he has wired. Could be easy as it's my third time building a rig. But the 4Runner seems like an easier platform than my 21 Tacoma TRD Pro (which was totaled in May).
