What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Tube Material is HREW Mig Wielded, I can measure tonight for the stick out, Yes they do stick out enough to prevent door dings.
I waited 8 weeks, but they are well worth the wait

Living in the rust belt myself, I recommend not getting top plates. The winter slush will build up and rust underneath. And it is a PITA to clean under there in the winter. Knowing what I know now, I'd rather not have them.

 

That was my thinking also.

 

@4runningMan I did NOT notice rust. As far as dirt goes, it is a 21. Poor Casper has def seen his fair share of gravel roads over last year since I got him. But I don't know much about the previous owner either.

 

Not sure if I will have that problem. I did not have that problem with my Tyger steps with the bars and top plate. My garage is heated so any of that shit just melts off in my garage at winter time. Having radiant heat in the concrete floor it drys all that slush and snow.

 

A heated garage is a game changer for sure. The winter mess underneath is my biggest complaint, and I would rather not have 'em for that reason only. Otherwise, they are pretty nice to have for getting gear on the roof.

 

Yeah I need them because me and the wife are on the short size. Lol. And us being up in age makes it much easier to get in. Also nice for washing the vehicle besides using a ladder. When I had my Tyger steps on my 17 and 20 Pro’s I had no door dings because they stuck out pretty far. Another thing I like about sliders.

swapping sensors? why, are you changing wheels? Not just shoes/tires?

not sure what the going rate is on these? I normally sell on FB Marketplace at $500 for the 5 factory Dunlop Grandtrek AT20 tires.
I see nowadays 4Runners coming with Bridgestone tires, no personal experience on those.

 

If ur selling rims know what you got! Sit on those and figure out a selling price. Don't do what I did and FB marketplace them after two seconds

 

Wifey doesn’t like the stock wheels so going aftermarket wider and different offset. Lift should be here in a couple days too.

 

well that blows i dig those towels. i just rip the tag off and treat them as disposable since they are pretty cheap. will have to stock up this weekend.

 

Perfect fitment. I already pulled the liners but had to remove the mud flaps. If going off road yes it’ll rub. But for her driving style, she’s good to go. 17x8 +5mm offset with 285 70 Toyo Open country AT3. Glad I didn’t go for the 17x8.5 with 0 offset.

How come you're glad you didn't do zero offset, which would poke out slightly more? (I upgraded to 17x9s zero offset also removed flaps and chopped liners but then spidertrax spacers sent me straight to Rubsville)

 

I'm holding out hope that the replacement will be the exact same towel without the label.

Instead of the two bucket method, I saw a guy on YouTube just say that they used the towels to do the wash and, when soiled, they would just put it in the laundry pile and grab a new towel.

 

Just my opinion.... I wouldve gone with a -10 or -12 offset but only if i was lifting it much higher than 2/1. With the budget lift and the TRD reps I like the flush look. I was thinking of just going with spidertraxx and the Stock wheels powder coated a dark matte. But at only $550 for the reps, I'm keeping this on a budget build (for now)

I gave up on the idea of punching a hole and cutting a slit for my dash cam cable to come cleanly to the mounting base. I am still devising the creation of a light fixture to illuminate the cargo area. My thought on the light fixture would be a silicone or super glue molding with LED lights in it. When I'm done with that, I may then do the headliner damage.

I am also looking at confirming compatibility of the glass break sensor. I am in California and the kid who's going to inherit this from me is in Oregon. Until there is a massive change in the political structures, I have a feeling that car break-ins will continue to be handled like spitting on the sidewalk... Completely ignored.

I think they have a motion sensor as well, if it's not combined with the unit linked above, they have a separate one. I got to hunt that out.

 

Bring home the new 4runner Pro tomorrow and first thing when I get a chance since it will be sitting in the garage till it goes into the detail shop for the wrap. Be removing the predator steps since the dealer adds these on and would not remove them. I tried but they added them on the pro when it was already ordered. I will be posting them for sale.

 

First post! Today I peeled off the rear trim panel and stuck in a factory sub enclosure from BAM; it's technically possible without removing the third row but I'm not sure I would recommend this method. Waiting on a radio harness to finish wiring it up.

Had to widen and reinforce the opening to get the Skar "shallow" sub to fit. At 1/5 the cost of an 8w3v3 I'll give it a shot; I was never very happy with my 10w3s in the past.

Couple more minor mods

-cargo truck tire pump quick-release attachment just showed up. Thanks @Bluesky 07
-relocated spare 285 on OEM steely to passenger side cargo area to offset too much stock weight on drivers side (prolly should have done that side to begin with)
-installed cargo net for wifey

 

Now time to rip 'round try to pin point pesky rubbing behind front wheels while flexing. If it ain't rubbing bloody hell, could the noise be balljoints on their last legs or even new shop installed ACDelco tie rods..

 

Upgraded the tail lights to the new Morimoto gen 2 led’s.

Hey! My headlights just arrived and I wanted to ask about the fuse again. What leads you to believe you don’t need to tap it? I’m going to install them this weekend and the instructions state to tap the fuse to the EFI 2 fuse.

From my quick research I think this just initiates the starting sequence of the lights on unlock and engine start.

curious to hear your thoughts on the lights without tapping !
