What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Had to replace the power steering pump at 110,000 miles today. Power steering fluid was leaking from the shaft seal. $890 bucks later and it's fixed.

First "major" repair since new almost seven years ago. I'll take that.

 

Painted some valence panels I bought off someone over the weekend. Came out pretty good, but you never really know until a year or two

 

Also added this mod to my windshield. Not sure if I like it or not yet

I finally put real tires on it, the E-range Wildpeaks in 265/70/17. I took it right out for a spin on the Interstate and didn't notice any vibration over a range of speeds up to about 77. The transmission sure noticed the change, though. Next up is finishing the painting on my rooftop basket and finishing my sleeping platform. Eventually I'll replace the predator steps with sliders.

 

I am same way but I figured I would try it and save $$$ from having someone else do it... Watched some videos on YouTube.. It looks good from a few steps back but up close you can see some small mistakes.. Im not to OCD so I can live with it for now.. Plus my plan in the future is to get outside mollie on those window..

 

I tried to get my Morimoto XB headlights to function on low and high beams.....no luck.

 

I think those issues are quite common unfortunately. Were you provided a harness that is labeled right and left? There were some issues regarding that and needing the TRD Pro harnesses.

Check your high beam fuse. There is a good chance it is blown. Seems to be a common occurrence. I also scrapped the add a fuse altogether. Morimoto rep told me they no longer recommend to tap the fuse they suggest in their directions. He said they are going to be issuing new instructions that will state to tap an auxiliary fuse under the dash.

I personally found not using the add a fuse but still running the DRL wires to the headlight as instructed worked for me. For me, it really worked out in the end because I now control my DRL rather than having them on all the time with no option to turn off. If you leave the stalk turned to DRL, they will shut off when the engine is off and will start up with the headlight cycle upon start up.

Hope this helps however there are some threads on here that are probably 2 weeks old that you can read through. Morimoto was a little frustrating with the lack of support but in the end they look good and are much brighter than the OEM so all is well.

For all the discussion of problems with aftermarket LED lighting, I haven't seen much discussion of using ferrite beads to tame the transients. Is anyone doing that?

One thing is for sure: I won't be carrying the spare on the roof.

Addition: My Arizona hiking buddies insisted on E-range, I wasn't going to second-guess that bunch.

 

So I got them working after I wrote that post. Sure enough, the 20A high beam fuse was blown. What threw me off was all the projectors were lit up so I thought the high beams were on. Nope, that's normal and once the fuse was replaced it was obvious. I love these lights and so much brighter than OEM LED's. My lows are aimed a bit low but tomorrow I'll get them set correctly. Maiden voyage of the new roof rack today. Worked perfectly, with the three straps, the 12ft kayak was locked down tight, absolutely no turning in the wind like I was getting when I had the two malone bars

 

Nothing fancy just some vinyl.

 

Does the entire back side of that stick to the hood surface?

 

that looks very secure. i am no kayak expert but wouldnt it be more aerodynamic if it was upside down?

 

I think so too.
Plus some manufacturers (hobie for example) will void warranty if it isn't stored the right way, even during transport.

 

I’m not sure, to be completely honest, if this is the correct way to transport this particular kayak. It’s how they loaded me up at the fancy-pants kayak store I bought it at. It was carried like this on my old sienna for a few hundred miles with no problem. There’s also a fair amount stuff and protrusions topside that would potentially get in the way or break if I strapped down upside down. But now you guys got me worried lol. I might try upside down next time to see where crossbar touchpoints would fall on the kayak.

 

I had a manual from hobie (cant find it now) that warned me not to store it with weight supported by base, when not in use. This is closest to what I could find:

What did you use for blacking out the interior silver trim?

 

Overlays I got off Amazon. I also can’t stand the carbon fiber look or gloss black. I went with the matte black overlays from High Flying.

they are pretty good you still kinda see some sliver around the seems. But overall I’m happy.

I also got the buttons and steering wheel trim from AJT Designs. Top quality!!! I wish they made a full trim conversion kit. But I got everything I could from them, the rest from Amazon.

 

Did they say why? I'm also in AZ and need real tires soon
