Great work! I bet there's a bunch of people that would like to buy one of those.

Aaaaand I’d refer them straight to Gobi lol. I can’t feel my fingers anymore haha

I took it for a test drive and it wasn’t much worse than the malone bars…just a deeper rumble when I get to 60-65mph. I’m gonna have to build a wind deflector, probably with some spots for some forward-side lighting. But that will be at a later time…much later lol

Truth be told, I’m not totally happy with how much the cantilevered portion deflects vertically when I put pressure on it (everything forward of the middle crossbar is cantilevered). Depending on how it does with the kayak, it might come back off for reinforcements.

Great work weather you end up changing it or not. It's always nice to see the built stuff.

Great choice. Only difference between yours and mine is you mounted the plates with the dimples upward.

I live in a state where there is a lot of mud and clay. Mounted upwards to make it easier to wipe the crud off my shoes/boots.

The sliders seem real solid and the build quality looks great. I'm glad I paid extra for the powder coating. The black and blue look great together.

"installed" new 1up bike rack. USA made high quality. Very sturdy, unique wobble-less design.

Other recent mods Carlink Wireless car play, Toyota metal door edge guards, anytime backup cam, power folding mirrors, sequential turn signals. Replaced all interior halogen with LED. TRD skid plate, metal oil filter housing (just did first oil change), AVS low-profile vent visors.

Oh, and you may notice 40th anniversary stripes. Nope, not a 40th, with ORP wheels. Plus it's MGM. It's actually an ORP poser 40th. As I grew up in the 70s, liked the retro look of the 40th, but wanted an ORP. Rather than turn an SR5 into a ORP (and pay dealer markup for a 40th), cheaper to go other route. You can get stripes from dealer...about $120. I put them on myself. Wet method. Took my time, no bubbles, UNTIL I got to last stripe (they come in 8 pieces). Must have been getting tired, getting dark. I dunno. Noticed I had a 3-4 bubbles next morning. Tiny pin prick (along color line if possible) and gently squeegeed water out. I've already noticed an increase of 10-20 hp since adding stripes.

40th wheels go for about $275 each if you shop around. To "complete" look you need Floor mats, emblems, headrests, bronze stitching, color matched pro grill. I'm happy with just stripes, but may add wheels and emblem (hatch just says "40th" not 1 of 4040). I'll think about it for a few months.

Thanks. 1-up is only available from 1UP-USA.com. They do not use resellers. I have had few Yakima and Thule racks over the decades. Several have failed prematurely due to inferior components. I just don't see that happening with this rack. It should outlive me. I have a single, it is easy to add a double - up to 3 more. I thought I took a pic in lowered position, I'll have to out later and redo that.

Not affiliated with 1-Up, and there are a few other good names to consider as well. Watched a lot of videos, read a lot of reviews. THis was the one I kept going back to. Not cheap, though.

I am still using the same 1-Up rack I bought 10+ years ago. No plastic parts, everything is rebuildable or replaceable. A decade of Michigan road salt for winter fat bike transport and still going strong.

Had to replace the power steering pump at 110,000 miles today. Power steering fluid was leaking from the shaft seal. $890 bucks later and it's fixed.

First "major" repair since new almost seven years ago. I'll take that.

Painted some valence panels I bought off someone over the weekend. Came out pretty good, but you never really know until a year or two20230715_195517.jpg

I finally put real tires on it, the E-range Wildpeaks in 265/70/17. I took it right out for a spin on the Interstate and didn't notice any vibration over a range of speeds up to about 77. The transmission sure noticed the change, though. Next up is finishing the painting on my rooftop basket and finishing my sleeping platform. Eventually I'll replace the predator steps with sliders.NewTires.jpg

I think those issues are quite common unfortunately. Were you provided a harness that is labeled right and left? There were some issues regarding that and needing the TRD Pro harnesses.

Check your high beam fuse. There is a good chance it is blown. Seems to be a common occurrence. I also scrapped the add a fuse altogether. Morimoto rep told me they no longer recommend to tap the fuse they suggest in their directions. He said they are going to be issuing new instructions that will state to tap an auxiliary fuse under the dash.

I personally found not using the add a fuse but still running the DRL wires to the headlight as instructed worked for me. For me, it really worked out in the end because I now control my DRL rather than having them on all the time with no option to turn off. If you leave the stalk turned to DRL, they will shut off when the engine is off and will start up with the headlight cycle upon start up.

Hope this helps however there are some threads on here that are probably 2 weeks old that you can read through. Morimoto was a little frustrating with the lack of support but in the end they look good and are much brighter than the OEM so all is well.
