Hey Y’all. New here. I couldn’t find a good solution to mount my Scangauge 3 so I put it in the sunglasses holder. I like things to look pretty stock so I thought to myself why not give it a try. Bought a thin Ethernet cable with a 90 degree downward bend. Scangauge port is upside down. Got Ethernet female to female coupler. Ran everything up the A pillar from the OBD port. Dropped the overhead console and drilled a hole in the black part of the sunglasses holder a used a stick-on magnet to hold the Scangauge in place but can be removed if necessary. I’m honestly shocked this worked so well.

I don't want to be that guy. But keeping it there would not let you see the guages all the time right? I thought I saw some one mount it on A-Pillar.
How about under the Hvac controls where it has a cubby? Just an idea. I have my front camera screen and scangauge 2 in that spot.

My bad. I thought you would close the sunglasses thing to viw the rear view mirror on highway driving. If you keep it open all the time then its all good.

Ah gotcha. Yeah so there is a hair of interference with the mirror view. I’m going to tinker with it a bit more and see if I can adjust my mirror. Tighten the mounting screws a little bit more on the overhead console. Slouch a little more. Hahaha

Yes. Previous set on the 4Runner were P rated too. I have had Duratracs in E Rated on a Jeep Wrangler. Way stiff.

FYI- you prob already know this, but the mirror has two pivot points, not just one. It was a long time before I figured that out. I was so happy to make that discovery lol.

Like many others have done, relocated the rear diff breather to under hood. Used ARB style kit from ebay. $41 delivered. Wrapped the polyethylene hose in loom for extra protection exiting diff and under hood. Unsued Xreas clips came in handy to secure tubing alongside frame. Used 3M 4910 VHB tape to mount manifold on backside of drivers wheel well.

You don't need that steel cable. Just wrap the chain slack around the crossbar and put the lock through the chain links like this:

Installed wire mesh in the grille to protect the A/C condenser, radiator and everything else behind the grille...

Something I've learned to do for all my vehicles, being as I drive mainly gravel/dirt roads and having had a couple radiators punctured by gravel, thrown up by oncoming vehicles, going through the grille. Plus at certain times of the year we have swarms of grasshoppers, moths, and other insects that can quickly plug up a radiator. The wire mesh is strong enough to withstand hits from rocks, "filters" the bugs, and yet allows plenty of air to get through. It is powder-coated black so unless you look closely you can't really see it behind the grille. Here's what the grille on my F150 looks like after a swarm of bugs; the mesh has done it's job:
    P1017866eer.jpg

Here's a shot of the grille of the 4Runner after installation of the mesh. I've got some white plastic stuffed behind the grille just so the mesh shows up on camera:

Removed a stripped bolt (hallelujah) from my cat guard and greased my slip yokes. I was very close to drilling too far sideways with my extractor.

Let the mods begin. Since only having this a week.. I've installed an ARB 3in coil/strut lift, TRD front skid plate, new BFG K02's, WeatherTeck floor mats and of course the all important rear Gobi ladder. 1f601_3570199f52981ec70448eaa52de32a1fe8d4d963.png

BFG KO2 is still my fav trail and do it all tire. Even with Load C I have lot of confidence abusing them.

How ever I wasn't a fan of OME Nitro shocks. For sure they are strong for rough roads / trails, hard cornering and little jumps. But comfort wasn't to my taste. Also I see that you have front mud flaps but keep and eye on rear shocks. If you do lot of gravel road driving the shock body paint get sand(rock) blasted. I had front mud flaps but my paint was gone.

Yamahamer nice job! Did you have to remove the grills and what type of mesh are you using? I did mine with the mesh on top of the grill with Velcro but does not look as nice as yours.

I bought my gutter guards at Home Depot. $2.41 each, pre covid. Needed 2 of them. Bottom portion didn't need to be altered at all, top portion was a cut-to-fit. Held in with zip ties. Came in black.

As the Stoney Ranger stated above, you can get them at Home Depot. They do come powdercoated. Below is the Home Depot info. It is not necessary to remove the grille - remove the cover over the top of the radiator and you can easily reach in and work on the back of the grille. That cover removes by pushing down on the center of each plastic pin holding it in place, then just pulling up on the whole pin. I used black zip ties to hold the mesh in place - unless you look really close you can't even see them. There is a bend on the one side of the mesh but it is easy to straighten out using a hammer and a block of wood. Cheap protection for all that expensive gear behind the grille.

Not what I had planned but for these things coming into my life at the prices they did I couldn't resist. May change it up a bit down the road but am really happy with the look currently ...

Added (prices included shipping, which was ridiculous on the two shipped items)
170.22 for the upper grill straight from toyota
127.47 for the used nameplate on ebay
80 for the pro valence on offerup

for a grand total of 377.69 for all oem pieces and a much improved look

This also gave me the opportunity to remove the trd skidplate and clean the threads, add anti-seize and put it all back together feeling better that there's less chance for issues there in the future now.
