First oil change! Done at 4200 miles as in 2 weeks we will be in route to Canada and I would have hit the 5k mark on the trip so it would have been well over.

Dropped the drain plug into the catch pan..... had to dump and strain it, that was fun ha.

Learned a lot changing my own oil, I had in the past but usually with friends to help out so this was my first solo time.

Glad I changed it a little “early” I had a fair amount of shavings in the strainer I used to catch my drain plug.

Installed some OEM running boards. They’re great for getting the kids in and out of Rig.

Oracle and Magee area. Used to work at the Safeway at Ina and Oracle before the CG.

Actually, closer to La Canada and Hardy.

La cholla and Overton? I used to make that drive every Sunday out to where our horses were boarded (way off thornydale towards Tangerine)

It ended up being 490. And they just did the normal stuff plus the power steering flush. It probably didn't need any of that shit tho

Decided to take my ol'lady on a little adventure. First exploration in the new rig. Decided to start from the bottom of the hill and work our way up. Started on Alder Creek Rd off greenspot rd in Mentone Ca. Drove up to connect into 1N09 and out to the 330. Could have connected through to Big Bear, but i had to get back home for work tomorrow. Lots of twists and turns and different types of terrain, 4-5 little creek crossings (4-12ft across. probably bigger in the winter/spring) rocks, gravel, fine loose dirt. Some off camber hills and turns, and some tight overgrown areas where thin branches reached out to kiss my paint job (׿×). Overall a great drive. 20180803_180917.jpg 20180803_192657.jpg 20180803_180315.jpg

    They are Avid sliders. Avidoffroad.com
The owners name is Brandon, he’s a Vendor on tacomaworld.com. He doesn’t have them on his web site, but he will gladly make them to order. His prices are great too.

They looks bad @ss (IMHO), I have contemplated swapping out my step for some sliders but can't find ones that I like...I will have to head over to his site and take a look at some stuff and maybe shoot him a message to see what he can fab for me.

    Thanks brother!!

I ran his sliders on my Tacoma, so I knew his work. I wanted clean and simple, and these fit the bill perfectly. I also had him set them off angle 15 degrees, and they clear the rear door by about 2 inches. Thanks for the compliments!
    Cheers

Very nice! Are you running a 3 or 4" lift on your truck? How much does the front come out from the profile? Is it enough to use as a step?

I really like the straight line of it and the angle just at the back...perfect look!

3” lift. There is enough room to use as a step, but since I have them risen 15 degrees, when you use them as a step you have to duck to get into the truck. If that make sense. lol my daughter uses them as a step.

I also have the Dobinson's 3" Coil Lift on my 2018 4R. I had the front coils sized for C4 Fab Lo Pro Bumper and a winch- 120 lbs added weight to factory weight. I had the rear coils sized for additional 200 lbs of gear. I can't compare the ride to Toytec, Icon, or etc... because this is my first lift. I did a lot of reading up on all the different lift systems out there and think Dobinson is the ultimate one out there. I kept reading how Toytec struts should be rebuilt every 30000 miles. I like that Dobinson has virtually no maintenance except to grease the UCA's with every vehicle oil change. I'm here to say that the ride is as good if not better than factory!

Backslider, what Roof Rack is on top of your Rig?

ToyTec uses Bilstein shocks. I have never heard of any shock ever that needed to be rebuilt every 30K miles. Where did you come up with this information?

I think they are refering to the Icon, King and Fox variety and not your sealed shocks from Bilstein, OME, etc.

Any shock that needs to be rebuilt every 30K miles would never find it's way under my truck. If those higher priced shocks really need a rebuild every 30K miles, that's pathetic and I have no idea why anyone would ever run them.

It’s not necessary, it’s recommended. Considering the use those shocks are designed for, the recommended service/rebuild is due to the above average use they generally see.

If I had a set of icon, king or fox shocks on my 4Runner and pulled them to do the service at 30k they’d probably look brand new since I’ve done minimal off-roading in the last 30k miles (26k in actuality). Now, if I was long travel and hauling ass through the desert every weekend, they’d probably need some work.

The benefit to those style shocks is you can customize them to suit your needs and not have to rely on an out of the box solution from Bilstein, OME, etc.

BTW...I really dislike waiting around for the filter housing to drain so I can change the oil filter.
