What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Looks great! I took advantage of their Boxing Day sale to buy my roof rack at a discount despite not having taken delivery of my 4runner yet. I've sent them several updates saying "hey I'm not ready yet, take care of other customers first" but didn't realize their delivery times had shrunk to a week. Guess it's time to ask them to finally ship mine (particularly since my 4runner is on the boat and nearly here!)

 

Similar Gravel roads across the Sheeder-Hall covered bridge east of Pughtown, in Chester County, then along French Creek. Couple miles, nothing technical at all unless an errant tractor trailer driver was following Waze and took a serious wrong turn:


I like the quiet, no traffic ride on my dual sport for some contemplation on the serious issues in the world.

 

Nice motorcycle, looks like fun! I couldn't agree more on the quiet, no traffic ride! Something about the sound of gravel under your tires as you drive through nature is very soothing and helps you forget about the day to day things we stress about that really aren't that important.

you were certainly thinking ahead! must be excited that your 4runner is almost here.

I think I just got lucky on timing as they had just finished making a batch of racks, and since I'm local they didn't have to pack it up for shipping. I think they are still quoting 3-4 weeks typically. sounds like its time to have them send you yours!

 

Not sure how you get all that from a blurry video. Left sided snorkel…not a 4runner.

Platform finally finished. I wanted a camping platform to sleep on top of, but my wife didn't like the lack of headroom. So, the platform was raised to allow a separate leveling platform to fit underneath on the cargo floor and still allow plenty of foot room. I get my double-decker storage and she gets her claustrophobia eased. When it comes time to camp, just insert the levelling platform, unlatch the rear turnbuckles and there's plenty of room for the camp mattress. Laptop can sit on the platform for movie nights. Works in theory; looking forward to trying it out soon in reality.

 

Tinted the windows… ceramic.
Tint shop made a vinyl wrap for the hood scoop too. Satin black.

 

That front side window is dark. I'd get a ticket in my state. Looks great though.

I made a choice to tint all the windows. But I chose a tint for the fronts that's lighter than the back. It's dark but when you see it, you don't immediately think it's tinted.

The Ceramic tint really made a difference. Worth it.

I had ceramic tint put on Tacoma last summer. Not gonna lie. It kinda steep at $700 + tax.

BUT I had the old tint pulled off, tint put on my sunroof and front windshield, and side/back glass. It was done by a local shop where I live. It's a small business, and most other places are 15-30 min drive. So I do wanna try and support the smaller guys where I can.

Ordered RSG KDSS Plate and Cat Protection Plate. Built a 60% platform for sleeping and just started to decide gear location. I’m more of a week or less leave home day trips, overnight backpack into forest/old guy hang in the forest by myself so I’m setting up the Off road with that in mind. I have 400w Wattfun as well and the backpack will double as clothes/linen storage. I always liked having the 40% seat in the normal position for getting in and out. Less contortion. I highly recommend the Willlpo mattress. Even on your side it’s provides cushion.

 

Oil change today. Didn't start off that smoothly though. Not sure how much of this I should blame on living in the salt belt, or that the dealer probably over tightened it when I used my free oil changes. They did strip one of the other bolts. I'll be sure to use plenty of anti-seize going forward.




I also added the TRD skid plate. I thought this went over the steel plate like on the Tacoma, but this replaces the steel plate. It also seems a little beefier than the TRD skid plate my Tacoma had. Less bolts to worry about too.



I'm assuming it's beefy enough to be used as a jack point...

 

Was wondering what that was myself. I dropped the oil for the first time at 1700kms and saw that. What is that black piece ?

 

Installed this trickle charger (http://www.lslproducts.net/ALS_Overview_Page.html) for the start battery (This one is for Lithium but also available for Acid and AMG house batteries). As long as the house battery is charging (solar or 110-120v), the start battery is also charged. The RV industry primarily uses this product to trickle charge the start battery while the RV is in storage (outside or inside) and connected to a power source (solar or 110-120v). Also, I moved the house charge shut off to a higher position. The previous position was right at the door ?armrest and did not allow space to turn the switch with the door closed. Thus, having to open the door to turn the switch.

 

That's where you would place a jack to lift the front of the vehicle. The steel plate has something similar. It contacts the cross member.

After 27 months and being in less than 2-3 rains changed the disintegrating original wipers for the cheapest available at AutoZone.

 

$800 total 5% all around… 50% windshield
