What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Mounted my new 4xinnovations sliders after priming and coating them with truck bed lining.

 

Changed the Oil & Filter on my 2016 4RTP @ 70,000 Miles and Just purchased a compact CB Radio so I can communicate with my son on the trails!

I had that same radio in my Jeep prior to getting my 4Runner. Great little CB! I haven't mounted in the 4Runner yet. Keep us updated on your install... I'm looking for mounting location ideas.

 

Will do and see interior pick below; I plan on installing it in the lower shelf pocket. Still waiting on 18ft Cable and Antenna Bracket (from Rago Fabrications).

Also, added some bling to the dash above the glovebox!

My dealer changed oil and filter at 5K

 

Mine would not

 

My dealer, on the wife's Rav4, did oil changes at 10,000 mile intervals until she hit 40,000, then oil changes every 5,000 miles. I thought if I was getting 4 "free" oil changes that they would do, at my request, every 5,000 miles until I hit 20,000.

Nope. I did, and still do, change the oil every 5,000 miles.

 

I’ve heard it’s up to the dealer to decide and I’ve heard only at 10k. My dealer rotated the tires. What a waste of time.
My Honda came a similar plan and has done two oil changes one on mileage and the other on time. Plus the Honda dealer has an oil drive in addition to the service drive. If you come in for an oil only, straight in. The Toyota has just the service drive. Waiting means a whole different thing between the two.

 

maintenance manual says 10k for first. Oils have come a LONG way. There really isn’t a need for sooner. I sold my 2003 M3 at 220k and all was good. It had 15k oil changes. Just as long as it’s regular. Don’t be like my wife and go 30k miles before she met me. That poor vehicle didn’t fair so well….

 

Well guys tell your dealer that you tow and go off-roading with it. They will have to change the oil at that point as the oil is required to be changed at sooner intervals if these environments. If they argue pull out the manual and show them. I don’t remember where I read it but I am pretty confident I did. If you don’t do these things then stop worrying about frequency of oil changes. Toyota is one of the most reliable vehicles and I don’t think they are going to steer you wrong.

 

Added Morimoto headlights and Taillights on this 2020 Venture package. These lights have a sequential signal and have a super LED performance.

My Tacoma came with those Smitty Built steps. First trip, bent the shit out of the steps. Shifted the whole bar when I caught them on a rock.

I ordered sliders soon after.

 

did you install the TRD skid plate? If so, how difficult was it?

 

Big day yesterday. Took a little longer with the 4 year old and 6 year old helping me out.

Did a 60,000 mile oil change
Rotated the tires
Greased the prop shaft
Converted my daytime running lights/high beams from 9005's to 9011's.

 

Took a trip from NY to visit my son in Mooresville NC then a deer hunt in Greenville NC. The 4Runner was pretty loaded the whole time with hunting stuff, things for my son and then coolers full of meat and ice on the way home. Total of 1,358 miles. Averaged 19.4 MPG not trying at all and at times doing 80 and two runs to 95 when passing morons poking along in the left lane. I'm happy with that.

 

Expanded my vocabulary quite a bit working on cars with Pops. Mom unimpressed.

Your kids learn any new words that Sesame Street has overlooked?

 

Love the toyos, got them 285/70r17 E rated. Got them put on at the same time I installed eibach pro truck lift and freedom offroad UCA and the ride feels much better now, Subjectively speaking.

 

Just returned from about a 4K drive through the SW. Snow, sleet, rain, wind and dust Crossed the Great Divide at least 4 times, visit archaeological sites, historical sites, great food, bad food, idiot truckers, one "trainee trucker" who drove at 15-20 mph out of Carson City for 20 miles in a snowstorm!

Just been home for about 2 hrs. Pictures and "tales of terror" to follow.

 

They're ALWAYS really excited to turn a wrench. I'm grateful for that. Some kids are more interested in TV or indoor stuff.

They learned some tool and car part names, although my emphasis was mostly on safety this time around.......like to never be under a car when only supported by the jack, putting the tires under the vehicle when they are off the car, ect.....

 

Recovered a dead Jeep today. Man this version is unreliable. Constantly needs to be brought in for service to get charged :

 

Deer committed suicide today.Dead-center-between-the-head-lights-hit. I was going 55 mph. No time to even hit the brake. Damage to ALF is the door edge trim on the left side of the bumper is missing, the license frame is bent and a winch bolt has gone missing. Mmmmm.... I know it was there yesterday!! The Warn Winch bumper paid for itself today. The meat wasn't messed up as bad as I expected. It now resides in my freezer. Yearling doe. 'bout 95 lbs. Glad I have that bumper!!

 

Deer whistles don't work (everyone says). But I installed them..

I highly doubt they work. But I had a small item ordered from Amazon and just added these to reach free shipping minimum. LOL..

 

Hmm, maybe I should change my decision on the LFD bumper because I like yours quite a bit. The metal screen on the hoop is something I have not seen before, it looks useful for brush. Deer everywhere here, basically developments going up on old farmland have displaced them.

 

Rotated tires and put the gobi ladder on, also gonna have 4 home made cross bars for factory rails going up for sale here shortly
