What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

I'll have to search out this video. If they're supposed to just plug straight into the rails, then I may be missing some hardware.

 

You will have to remove the stock support bars. Lightly pre-screw the nuts on the Wicked Creations roof rack. Then slide the stock roof rack rails with the screw protruding through the channel and the nuts inside the channel of the stock roof rack rails. Then align and tighten. Then put your factory roof rails back on. I would recommend silicone caulking and thread lock.

I guess I lied. I can’t find the YouTube video but I know I read over them to see how it was installed or I built it in my mind (engineer in me).

 

There's no need to remove the support rails. The WC cross bars mount the same way as oem. The end cap has to be removed is all. There should have been some nut brackets that slide into the side support rails.

 

Do you have a photo of the hardware you received?

 

Sorry it has been a while. I thought the rails channels were blocked by the plastic mounts. I haven’t seen mine in over a year. If this is the case that would make it even easier.

 

Yep, and also a major thank you to both you and @GrantA ! going from what you guys have said, I think I finally got it figured out! Let's see if I've got this right:

Bolts go into these brackets here that go into the factory rails on my 4Runner:


I then line the crossbars up and mount them onto the bolts, then fully attach them with a nut and washer:


I think that's where my problem lies....I got the bolts and washers, but, they sent no nuts:

 

Looks good to me. Now just pop off the plastic covers (requires some force) and slide on and tighten down.

 

I think you need to turn your bolds around. There is not enough room inside the factory rails for the bracket and the head of the bolt.

 

Yeah looking at the last picture (the one with the bracket in your hand) more closely it appears they are threaded on the ends. So you will need to put the plate in and then screw into the plate. Sorry the documentation is not there and I don’t have one. Just doing the best I can with directing what everything looks like. Sorry I can’t be more help but hopefully when you get going on it things will start making sense.

No worries! It should be pretty simple to figure out once I get started on it. Definitely appreciate the help from everyone!

Since there doesn't seem to be any installation instructions, I think I'll try to document the entire install and hopefully that'll help someone else who ends up buying this roof rack. Granted, they'll probably be much smarter than I am and have it figured out from the get-go. *laughs*

 

No nuts involved. Turn the circled bolts around, they go the other way, through the end of the crossbar into the plate that is in the factory side rail, with the lock washer between the bolt head and the end of the crossbar.

 

Today, I had my tint go-to-guy at Draztic Film Solutions in Magnolia, TX - do ceramic all the way around (including the windshield for UV protection). My rig is in the foreground.

Interesting coincidence, there was another "twin" 4R (in the background) at their shop!

 

One of the best things I did was tint my windshield! You will love it.

how difficult are those to put on? i'm a downright pro with installing stuff like that on flat surfaces, but once you get round, I'm concerned about bubbles

From everything I’ve read, it improves the ride significantly. Especially for the rear, I’d hate to bottom out and feel that jolt from the stock length bumpstops.

 

Finished my diy aluminum roof rack and installed my sliders

 

What sliders did you get?

 

They look like Cali Raised

 

I have yet to bottom out on the suspension. But if I need to get longer bump stops then I will do the needful. Please share what you find.

Drawers in (only two screws in for fitment. Somehow I got the left side of the top drawer off by about 1/8” and made it sit crooked. So I’ll fix that tomorrow before drilling the holes for the bolts. T nuts installed in base plate to bolt everything down.

Tomorrow I’m going to get the drawer faces and I checked the places Facebook out. It’s going to be overwhelming with how much of a selection they have. Once that’s done I think it will be ready for backers and carpet. I decided not to integrate the backing into the boxes so it can be removed with me adding the electronics into the cabinets (lights, cooling fans for the fridge etc.) I did get the fans placed and ran the disconnects from the blue sea.

I am also looking at the possibility of adding a temperature switch in line that will close the circuit for the fans to kick on and off but that seems like overkill. Hopefully tomorrow we will get the faces cut and sanded for varnish, get the carpet on and mount the backs and fully bolt in the drawer slides (fix the one) . Let’s hope the weather holds out.

 

Got new shoes on Wednesday..

 

Installed my ScanGauge. I need to send it off to get the firmware updated (so that I can display transmission temperature).

 

Not sure why firmware update is needed. I didn't have to do anything for 2020+. Just enter X commands from this page.

It forced me to go back and double check what I had entered earlier. I must have fat-fingered one of the X Command entries. Alternate #3 worked for me! I suspected (incorrectly) that mine needed a firmware upgrade since I purchased it many moons ago. I appreciate this sir.

Took it camping. Made a mosquito net for the rear window. Got the net from HomeDepot, a few magnets from Amazon and some tape. It rained all night, had the window open 1/3. Very minimal water drops inside.
