What have you done to your 5th Gen 4Runner today?

Looks like it's gonna be a good weekend for me. The LASfit backup lights arrived yesterday too.

Haven't "done" it yet, but yesterday our new roof top tent arrived, we've set it up in the backyard so it could air out overnight.



Today we brought it into the garage, what a frigging nightmare. The thing is not really easy to handle, one of the flat, wedge shaped ones would have been much easier even though it would have been heavier. Did it with my wife ... next time we'll need to get a few people here to move it.

I have most of the mounting parts now and the 80/20 aluminium is on the way, so should be able to mount it at some point. Downside is, we have a stay-at-home order in place and can't just get a few friends here. It might have to stay in the garage for a while until I can find people to lift it on the roof.

 

So what are folks paying for 4x4 OFF ROAD TRD ?

 

Well, what year, features & milage? Not sure they even make a TRD non 4x4 (kinda contradictory)...

They do... just never shift it into 4h/4l

I was at the dealership yesterday, and looked at one, waited and waited and no one ever came out, no window sticker on it. I just left. I guess they figured I was just kicking tires cause they knew I had just bought a new Tacoma a couple months ago. Little do they know I am on the fence to trade it off.

 

Any hiccups on the install I should know about? Did you set up the DRL's?

 

I dont know about now but I took mine home for 42200 0down
These days tho I ain't sure...do places still have the whole covid rates? If so nows the time to get in on a new runner

 

Plug n play easy peasy

 

Bought my 2016 Tacoma new and traded it in after 3500 miles on a new 2016 4Runner. Loved the look of the Tacoma but the 3.5 is gutless when mated to that 6 speed double overdrive transmission. Couldn’t stand it.

 

Today a picked up a brand new recovery strap from Rhino USA. I used to have a tow strap with two hooks on each end I got from Canadian Tire. Turns out if I don't want to die, I should not use that. So far it looks like really good quality!

 

We bought are 11 4runner limited from a Toyo dealer in Salisbury MD back in August...found one with 63000 on the odometer...when i crawl underneath n took a look at the under carriage n such...i was amazed at how clean it was...n basically rust free (toyota standards lol)...factory stickers everywhere like new. The motor was the same..no aluminum oxidation at all!
Last week i started changing fluids....engine 1st. Mobil 1 synthetic extended milage w/ 300 ml bottle of Liquid Moly.
Trans i did a full fluid exchange with Valvoline Maxlife Synthetic....fluid didnt look bad at all .
Today i changed the differentials with Mobil 1 75w90 Synthetic gear oil....old oil was in pretty good shape...drain plug magntes not bad.
Greased the front n rear drive shafts(i feel they were done before surprisingly)
While i have the engine n trans skid plates down..i decided to clean them up...little bit with wire brush n my pressure washer. While i was at it i decided to drop the gas tank shield n do the same.
Motor n Trans shield repainted n ready to go back on....Gas tank shield waitin to dry to paint.

 

In 2011 the gas tank skid come in 2 pieces? Interesting that's different from what I got.

 

I think the trail n a few others had a full one at least back then...limited...not so...

 

I guess newer Limited owners are lucky to have full gas skids.
