Did you have to destroy the stock speakers to mount the new ones or buy brackets? Or do the newer models not need adapters anymore? I put all new speakers in my ‘18 and it took way longer than an hour lol. Did you wire the dash tweeters into your coaxial 6x9’s?
Here’s a link to the adapters I’m referring to since the aftermarket speakers do not line up with factory mounting locations.

You’ll still either need adapters, or cut up the stock speakers to make your own. Some places like crutchfield include adapters for free when you buy the speakers from them.

Looks great, love how it matches the raptor lights and the fog light thingys.

Why/how did you make a custom wiring harness?? What's wrong with the supplied one?

I just installed my 40" rigid E-series the other weekend and was having trouble wiring it to the air on board OEM matching switch. I got it wired to the basic switch supplied by Rigid, but I was going to take it to a truck shop to get it wired to the air on board switch

I made it custom because I wanted all the wires to be the exact length they needed to be (to make for a clean install) and also wanted to utilize the custom fuse/relay I already had. Otherwise I would had to slice open the provided harness to try and pull out the wires to appropriate length, and mount the relay somewhere. The way I did it, I have all my fuses and relays in one place. Also I kind of like the preciseness of it all and enjoy the process.

I too installed an AOB switch to operate it. It’s really not that hard and I can help walk you through the steps to install if you would like me too. By now I’m super comfortable pulling the dash off. The clips Toyota uses are super friendly and it’s really easy to yank on it without fear after you’ve done it a few times. Also don’t let that previous sentence scare you, you only have to unscrew the kick panel and pull off the floorboard door trim piece in order to access the blank switch spots. Really the hardest part is running the trigger wire through the firewall grommet... You definitely need a wire puller and some lubricant to make the job easier.

I can explain and take pics of where each wire goes if you want to take a crack it. Also if you get the crimp on terminals that have the heat shrink, all you need is a heat gun, small wire stripper, and crimp tool.

Let me know if you want to take another crack at it and I’d be happy to help you along the way.

    Cheers!

Edit: it sounds like you already ran the wire and know how to access the blank switches since you installed the Rigid one. It should be pretty easy to walk you through installing the AOB one.

I bought all my speakers from crutchfield, they include brackets and wire harnesses for free with speakers. They worked great. Lined right up no issues. Stock speakers are still usable... If I actually had a need for them LOL.

I didn't do the dash tweets. Just the 6 speakers, 4 doors and 2 hatch.

About an hour... I wasn't timing it and wasn't in a hurry, but I only drank 2 beers during the install... Had it taken an hour and a half I would've at least drank 3 :D

I would have been hammered if I was drinking during my install put a 4 channel under the driver seat and a Lc7i line out converter under passenger.
Speakers are one of the most enjoyable mods.

I would definitely appreciate a walk through of the wiring and any expertise you have to offer! It will save me money on having the shop do it. (unfortunately I still intend on bringing my rig to the shop for them to wire my ARB dual compressor which seems like an even more complicated task)

Would it be easier for you to creat a new thread for this? This way other people would be able to benefit from your knowledge as well?

Good call. Yeah I’ll start one later this weekend... about to leave for a trip to the mountains. Just put my CVT Mt Shasta extended on, along with the Solar powered pressurized shower I made in order to test everything out!! Sooo if you can wait until Sunday evening or even Monday, I would be happy to!! Cheers!

Also ARB air compressor sounds rad. Are you mounting it driver side next to the fuse box? I’m doing one eventually...

Your rig looks great! And no worries man, no rush at all. You're doing us the favor!

The compressor is actually mounted on the passenger side. With my mount, you can actually fit a 1gallon air tank under the compressor which I plan on adding in the future.

Check out the link below to the other 4runner site for guy makes mounts. I bought mine from @8S6RUNNER Who got his though the below link. Mounts perfectly in my 2019 and is cheaper than any other mount I've found.

Sicckkkk bro.. I’m going to do that sometime.. thanks for the link. Next mod is dual battery setup... getting the Shockwerks tray So looks like that will be perfect for what I’m looking for as well. Going to put in a rear air locker eventually since I have the SR5.. wish I would have bought the Off-road, but I needed a ride right away since my Audi went kaput and needed to get one right away -didn’t do the right research.. but kind of glad I did, since It’s been so much fun working on it and upgrading and learning the ins and outs of it. I plan on having it for a long while and having many adventures with it!!

Good! I'm glad it'll work out for you. The mount is really nice, you'd never know it didn't come from a factory. The instructions are hand written , but very easy to follow.
And that really is the way to go, you saved so much money and now you can make your rig how YOU want it.

I built an 07 FJ and did Moab 5 times with it. Sold it and bought a jeep and built it. I liked the FJ better, so now I'm selling the jeep and going 4 runner. This forum is really getting my juices flowing, it is half built already in my mind.

Had a Jeep (TJ) the same time as the FJ. Sold the Jeep a while back. I almost bought a JK but decided on Toyota quality and am super happy with my T4R OR.

It’s been a while but I’m pretty sure I disconnected the battery and then there are connectors on the seats that unplug for removal.

It seems like with IFS the more you build for off road, the better it gets on road. Solid axle gets worse.

Blacked out badges, window deflectors, smoked 3rd brake light. I have a Borla muffler on order as well as some color matched engine cover stickers. I'll be painting the stock wheels soon as well. Falken tires in the fall as well.
    So I bought this:
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0748QWY99?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_dt_b_product_details
And installed it today. I cut a 3" strip and put it in the center, avoiding the "bends" at the end of the bumper and it overlaps onto the face of the bumper only about 1/2 inch. I'm not too good with this kind of thing so I wanted to avoid trying to get it not to wrinkle around the slight bends. It's hard to see in the pic but it came out pretty good. I was sick of all the scratches and gouges in the bumper whenever I or someone else even touched it lightly with a cooler or something. Toyota should have continued the black part to cover more of the bumper but this should do it.DSCN5506.jpg

There's a group of harnesses that need to be unplugged under the seat. It's easy. Just take your time.

MAKE SURE YOUR BATTERY NEGATIVE TERMINAL IS DISCONNECTED BEFORE REMOVING ANY HARNESSES.

The yellow ones are the air bag sensors and you don't want your vehicle throwing a code.

I only removed the passenger seat, but it was 3 separate harnesses in a bundle. And 4 bolts, 14mm I believe. The plastic end caps that cover the bolts pop right off. I have a dash trim kit but didn't even need it for them.

If you're installing an amp for the first time, watch some videos on how to properly set the amp gain. It's not a volume control, you can use a cheap DMM to help. Let's say your amp is 1000rms at 1 ohm, and your subs are wired to 1 ohm... Take 1000 times 1, and square that. You'll get about 31 volts... Play a 40-50 Hertz constant test tone and test AC voltage on speaker terminal outputs on the amp, slowly adjust amp gain until you get to that voltage. Make sure all bass boost are off. The more pre output voltage the headunit or LOC you are using has, the less the gain will be turned up. More than this and you can clip, which can burn up equipment. This is a very shortened explanation, and there's other ways of doing it with different equipment and distortion detectors, but this is an easy way. Watch a few videos, it'll explain it better.

On another note... I switched out the 500rms amp under the seat for a 1000rms sundown audio amp. I had both amps... But wanted to try the 500 first. Nothing wrong with the 500, but the subs could handle more so I gave them more.
