Nice mounting point. You think there would be any heat issues though?

I don't think so, it's mounted to a Slee made compressor mount made for that area. I also had it installed in a similar spot in my Tacoma for a number of years, and had no problems there either.

Here you go. Still end up with the bit of chrome, but it kind of matches the vents.

not a bad deal. It’s interesting seeing a full set with tires hit the used market. I consistently see $500-$1500

I've been looking around for a used set, didn't see any so figured to get these on sale. If I was thinking straight I should have ripped them off the pro when the ex took it. I coulda painted a regular set and she wouldnt have noticed!

30,000 mile oil change today and my first time tackling a 5th gen oil change (had the dealer do the first two).

My wife's Outback takes about 20 minutes start to finish. The 4Runner took me a couple of hours with the skid plate removal and the cartridge filter. I'm sure it'll go much faster next time now that I know exactly what to do.

Oil looked incredibly clean on the way out, which was awesome!

    Added a Fumoto Valve.

I'll confirm that the plastic oil filter housing is crap. I'll switch it out to a metal one on the next change.

I also broke the stupid push to connect thingy on the plastic piece in front of the skid plate, but I always break those things. I hate them. Why not just put a bolt there?

Good for you! Taking the time to do it yourself is very rewarding. And the dealership always puts too much oil in it:frustrated:!!!

This is the eBay fuse box cover. It is decent, 3d printed, the label is just a printed picture is seems like. Just has to cover fuses, the Meso one does look nicer but this one will work just fine for sure.IMG_20200523_210742.jpg

The cartridge filter removal tool is essential and the metal filter housing will be a beneficial upgrade.

I would also suggest some ant-seize for your skid plate/plastic cover bolts and make sure you follow torque recommendations on everything. It's pretty easy to over-tighten a few things.

Other than that, pretty standard. Just don't expect to get it done in 20 minutes.

If you get an RCI skid plate, you don't have to drop the skid since it has a trap door. That's the sole reason I put one on my wife's 4R and my tacoma.

Added a Hike It throttle controller. I had one on my Jeep and loved it. Paired with this engine I like it even more on the 4R. Never used Pedal Commander or Sprint Booster. What I liked about the Hike It is the price. $199 without any sale. I got in on a great sale, but it took 4 weeks to get here. At one point, I thought I ordered from Gobi racks, but it was worth the wait at the price i paid.

I kinda ghetto rigged it, but it looks decent and functions well. At some point I might clean it up a little, but’s fine as it is for now. Im running it on Auto mode. The higher performance modes are pretty responsive. I also like being able to hit one button and it switches to "over take" mode and leaps to life like when passing on the highway.

Wow, I've cleaned my engine compartment, but mine hasn't been that clean since before its 1st off road trip. I carry two air filters, one engine, one cabin. I spend a lot of time in the dirt, need to exercise the gears.

Trans fluid dump and fill. Need to do a couple more and should be good for another 45K miles.

Still have less than 5k on my runner, so I haven't changed the oil yet, but can you explain what "cartridge filter removal tool" and "metal filter housing" you're referring to? Is this just a standard adjustable oil filter removal tool or something special? And what's the deal with the plastic filter bowl??

I have a feeling you're about to save me some future time and frustration, so thank you!!

No days they just put screens in there as a "strainer." I might do that at 90K, but for now just doing three drain and fills which should get me close to ~80% or more fresh fluid in there.
