Do you remember seeing them early on? My biggest concern here is does my particular truck had a paint defect... It’s only 2 1/2 years old.

Hey everyone. Been awhile since I posted my updates.

Since last fall I took off my Spidertraxx and stock wheels.

Added Billstein 5100s, ProComp 7069 17x9's. Added mormito fogs, wrapped the chrome trim on the front, yanked off the side SR5 trim, swapped in some plugNplay tail torches (part of Mission Blackout).

I also added a basic CB radio.

This weekend I am upgrading the door and dash speakers.

Here are some not terribly recent photos.MVIMG_20191026_104305(1).jpg

Not really fog lights, but they are Baja Squadron Sports. I don’t run them on the street, only while off roading or if I’m on some back country road where there’s no traffic and lots of deer.

I lived in VA back in the early 90's. Hated it from the day I moved there from New Hampshire. But the job was good, so I suffered through it for a couple of years till I moved to CO. Now CO is losing it's luster..this state has been going downhill quickly for the last several years, the urban areas moreso than mountain towns. Where next?

It's true.. they're even taking over Texas and trying to flip it. I'd love to move to like Montana or somewhere like that (not that I've ever been there, just seen it in movies and whatnot) but my wife doesn't want to leave family, nor go that far north.

Biggest issue is i don't have any close places to go wheeling with the 4R!!!

I'm not currently waiting on anything... Well nothing 4runner related anyways... I'm waiting on a tomahawk and kydex sheath for that tomahawk... Because I like throwing tomahawks... But that doesn't really apply to 4runners LOL

What did I do to mine? I blew the dust it's been collecting in the garage off with the leaf blower because I haven't driven it in weeks.

That's what I ended up doing this weekend. I bought a screw extractor from Ace Hardware and had them both out in a matter of minutes.

Really annoying. I can only assume the dealer used plastic as its rust country up here? I bought stainless steel screws as a replacement.

One of my biggest worries and initially my thought process behind taking it to the dealer. They mess it up, it's on them but I was able to do it myself without chipping any paint.

I have some of those same exact spots on my roof as well. I think they are from pin hole rock strikes. thankfully they are all on my roof within the same area. I plan to sand them down prime and repaint the area with some color matched paint and clear-coat from https://www.automotivetouchup.com/touch-up-paint/toyota/2016/4runner/
I've used this company for projects on my Tacoma and my LC 100 and they turned out great!

Thanks and what year is your truck. A few people I spoke to said the same thing about the chips but there is no visible rust coloration. The paint is completely covering the bubbling which leads me to believe it's a paint or undercoating issue. Thanks for the paint recommendation but I am bring the truck to a buddy of mine that has a good autobody shop to see what he thinks. Additionally, I am going to file a corporate complaint with Toyota. I don't expect them to cover anything but this will be 4 spots (driver's and passenger side door sills-these were fixed by Toyota, the rear gate and above the windshield) of legitimate bubbling rust on a well cared for 2 1/2 year old vehicle which I find utterly unacceptable. Mechanically the truck is utterly rock solid therefore these paint issues are a damn shame...I am so frustrated... But I do appreciate the input.

Maybe I missed something, but don't we have 5 yr 60k paint & rust protection on the T4R? I know there is some terms that cover it.
I wouldn't do anything without having the previous repair paperwork & current photos sent to corporate. I am sorry you have this problem. I hope it gets resolved!

Thanks! That’s the way it reads but when you get to the fine print it really only covers perforated parts 5yrs/60k. Flaking and holes. Technically bubbling isn’t cover. I just got off the phone with corporate and they filed a claim. The woman even said I am out of warranty (43k) but being that the truck was fixed for that exact paint issues they are going to get a specialist on it. The paint is bubbling in the same exact way in different parts of the truck.

Another person that also backs into their garage FTW!
Seems I'm more in a hurry to leave than to park in the garage, so backing in works for me in that regards.
It also makes a better 'escape' if we've gotten a lot of snow.
My wife even backs her car into the garage.
