They called yesterday and said new parts where in, went in this morning and got them installed. Full brand new mirror, including bottom piece, and no more whistle.

About to put 3K miles on it during TX,NM, And CO road trip. I’ll see how my 10k free maintenance goes before I go driving a long way to a different dealer, but I agree if they are shit again no more.

Added mini Seatbelt Extenders to the front seats, and switched out the Shifter knob with a all Black TRD one. Also added a console Tray.

I added some LFD cross bars.

Two things to note...the wind noise is very loud (more noisy than the motor at 2k rpms) and I plan on ordering a third bar and fairing in the next few months. And the second is to spend the extra money of the stainless steel cause I chipped a few areas when installing them. I live in NY so salt longevity is a must for me. Great stuff and I love the amount of options it provides without replacing the whole roof rack.

Man they are that noisy? I was thinking about a set of LFD or Victory 4x4 rails. Was hoping they wouldn't be that bad with just two(I mean the factory rails are just two and they can't be that noisy).

I don’t wanna knock the product too much because I really like them a lot and very happy I purchased them. But they are noisy...it sounds like Seal Team Six is landing on my roof above 50mph...sorry I know that’s a very dramatic statement. All kidding aside they make significant noise but I think a fairing is going to make this a non-issue. And IMHO I wouldn’t let the noise stop me from buying them again. It’s just the nature of the beast (square bar sitting a few inches above the stock rails...there is no way that wasn't going to create a lot of noise).

Looking to get a new ditch light switch for the used harness and lights I bought. I've heard of Air on Board and CH4x4... Anyone have experience with those? Is one better than the other?

    Thanks,

You should contact Jacob at LFD and see if he has any tips on decreasing the noise. They have very good customer service and I'm sure they are aware of things like this so he may be able to help. He helped me with the noise on my full rack and it solved all the issues.

I emailed with him about the noise. They're great bars and they're up front about the noise. Apparently the aluminum ones are even louder and have a resonance sound. They were working on a solution awhile back. Sounds like maybe the fairing is the answer.

I actually had bought, unbeknownst to me, the 3rd ever produced all aluminum full rack. Since it came out they made changes to the configuration cuz I had a horrible noise and vibration starting at 60 mph. Turns out I needed to have a steel front fairing and two steel crossbars somewhere in the mix to increase rigidity. Jacob overnighted me the new fairing and cross bars and all is good up to 80mph. (didn't see the point in going past 80)/

Can you run 16" wheels or would you need to swap brakes?

A wind fairing can make a huge difference. When I got a MOAB basket from a friend with no wind fairing, it was like being in a 1950's tornado movie. We made a replacement fairing and it quieted down a ton.

Another option is to remove them when you're not using them. I have a gigantic Yakima basket now, and it sounds like I'm being tailed by a 747 sometimes. Once I'm done with the trails for awhile, I'll take it off until I need it again. It's a bit of screwing around, but I love how quiet the 4runner is without it.

    :( That sucks. :(

I remember wanting to run 15s on my third gen tacoma and finding out 16s were as small as i could go and was pissed LOL Especially because i was offered an awesome deal on some 15s off of an older tacoma.

On another note i got my lift kit ordered today finally. Went with the 2.75/1" eibach pro kit, but unfortunately they are currently back ordered... So it'll be a bit before i can get it installed. But im looking forward to it.

Still debating between 275/285 tires. Prolly go with wildpeaks, as i have used them a couple times in the past with great results...

And lastly... for now.... Seriously considering throwing a flowmaster 40 on my 4runner.... I know its a touchy subject on most forums/social media but i loved them on ALL of my tacomas and today i heard a 5th gen 4runner with the 40 series and to me it sounded great.

I can't imagine that not sounding like shit. But, to be fair, the only V6 I've ever heard with a 40 series was a Chevy 4.3.

I would be concerned about drone. I put a magnaflow on my '03 V8, and it sounded beautiful. But, it droned bad at highway speed. I had to change it out because it made me hate the truck.

I'm afraid to put any aftermarket exhaust on the new one because of it. I love having a little noise when I'm punching it, but I can't stand highway drone.

I'm curious to see how it sounds, though. Let us know how you like it.

Its a bit funny but a couple years ago i met up with a couple tacoma guys from the forum and this one character in particular had posted publicly saying he didnt like exhausts on V6s.... well... The first words out of his mouth was your truck sounds great is that the trd exhaust? LMAO,he was ready to go buy himself a flowmaster 40 after hearing my tacoma LOL

I have had 40s on multiple v6 tacomas in the past and enjoyed it... To be fair, my hearing isnt great... Years of not wearing hearing protection while shooting, in the military and hunting alike, didnt help me... I dont notice the drone but my wife does a little bit, though she has never complained.... I enjoy being able to hear my exhaust, yet REALLY dont like the glass pack type sounds... I LOVE the deep growl though.

I thought about starting a thread asking about which exhaust sounds the best "deepest" but i get tired of everyone saying "they all sound like shit" Especially from people with little to no experience. We all have different preferences which i think is awesome, but i dont go around looking for threads to tell people the pro rims and grilles are played out and not as cool as they think they are, like the anti-exhaust people do.

Granted im mostly speaking about on the tacoma boards....

Yeah, I could see a thread about it going down in flames. But, might be worth a shot. Most of the people here are pretty helpful and can disagree without bickering.

I'd be interested in hearing about different products and what people have liked and disliked. Worst case, you just tune out the ones with nothing worthwhile to add.

In general, I think it's hard to find a good sounding exhaust for a V6. There are some out there, though.

I was curious and checked YouTube, but unfortunately most of the videos are just guys putting a camera on the ground behind the truck and revving it up. That never seems to do justice to the sound of the motor under load.

It's funny how trendy the forums can get. How many sports and off-roads do we need with PRO grilles?

Checked tire pressures using a gauge today. Then listened to Garth Brooks like it was 1996 again... :sadviolin:

My gas mileage has been steadily plunging since I installed the new tires.

Thought maybe I'd try removing the air deflector plate from the GoRhino roof rack to see if that would help lower wind resistance.

Took it out on the highway and was rewarded with an unacceptably loud roaring sound from 40 mph on up.

Going to be putting it back on tommorow...
