Any particular reason you didn't use the Icon upper arms and used TC?
I'm considering the same setup down the road.

No real good reason and I’m sure the Icons are great but I have the TC’s on my Tundra and haven’t had an issue with them. I also prefer the look of them better.

Agree with the look. Have TCs on my Tacoma, 3ish years and no issues to report.

As I learn the things that may need a little extra attention to my 5th gen, I have seen this a few times. I am very familiar with sensor issues on 4runners, mostly O2, but is this a thing on ALL 4runners?

Is this a mod limited to X-REAS and/or KDSS, or every suspention?

No. Just a little extra protection. I'm removing the
X-REAS suspension anyway for kings front and rear in about 2 weeks.

I’ll put it farther down on my list for now. I had the X-REAS on my ‘05 which I traded with 205k miles and it still was fine, luckily.

I forgot to take measurements before so I don’t know exactly what I gained but the ride quality is more firm. The nose dive isn’t noticeable anymore and the cornering seems stiffer. Overall, I think it rides better. Still getting used to the new tires though. Just got them on last night.

Over the weekend I got the bug to switch my grill marker light location. Initially, I put them in this location:

    (not my truck)

but it bugged the shit out of me because:
    a) I was using zip ties to hold them in place
    b) the lights stuck out like a sore thumb from the grill
    c) the placement was too low for my liking

So I trimmed the tabs, moved them up 1 grill notch, got rid of the zip ties, and placed them so they sit inside the grill instead of sitting on top of the grill. It's subtle, but I'm much happier with the way this looks.

The ABS sensor protectors have nothing to do with suspension and every model 5th gen has these sensors. The ABS sensors are vulnerable to damage when off roading. Your 5th gen won't even go into 4wd if these sensors get damaged which can be a huge issue on the trail. This mod is high on my list as funds become available.

After you removed the rear mount posts, did you have any trouble threading in the new bolts? I had problems on both drivers & pass sides...ended up just using the 35mm (shorter) bolts cause I was so worried about damaging the threaded inserts...

I used the shorter bolts also. But I read this about the install and this guy did the same thing we did. SDHQs instruction may be incorrect.

    https://trail4runner.com/2019/02/06/sdhq-abs-speed-sensor-guards/

I feel very safe about using the shorter bolts. You could tell a good amount of thread went in, and went in tight. I think it would be more likely you would shear the bolt than have it pull out.

    Slightly expensive haha.

...but then again you can't put a price on silence. :D

I'm not confident enough in my electrical/wiring ability to start cutting on the interior of the nicest vehicle we own.

On a side note...we just found out that my Wife is expecting our 3rd, so now she's in the market for something with a third row or that will accommodate 3 car seats better (We are looking at the Volkswagen Atlas). I'll be forced to sell my Gen 1 Taco and move into the 16' 4 Runner. :woot:

Congratulations! Though personally, I don't know that I could give up my 1st Gen Taco... but of course, moving to a 5th gen 4 Runner is a pretty damn nice upgrade....

Hmm. So...a few facts about my truck that may sway your opinion or help you sway mine.

My 04' taco is getting the frame replaced as we speak. Has 73K original miles, 4WD and the 2.7 4 banger.

If I choose to keep her (taco) then we have to trade the 16' 4Runner in on the new Mom whip.

Sadly, a decision must be made and we are losing a Yota either way.

That is a shit decision to make I’ll give you that! If that the case I guess you’ll have to decide if you need the runner to carry people when the wife is occupied or if you need/use the truck for what it is. With the Tacoma getting the new frame they will be replacing a lot of other worn parts as well so it will almost be like a new truck. My decision would be keeping the truck. I use mine to haul and carry things more than I need a vehicle to carry people. Good luck!

Maybe I missed part of the story but how is a 4Runner not a "Mom whip"??? What different Mom whip are looking to get?
