What have you done to your 4th Gen 4Runner today?

Did you get those baby installed yet? I am pretty excited to see the outcome!

2007 4.7 V8...tried the timing belt myself,.got to belt everything lined up(lines on

cams and oil pulley to the "l" and white dot) , clockwise to 50 degrees (did not rotate back to "l" position ) .. changed

belt, didn't mark new one just lined up the factory lines with the marks on cams/

oil pulley (I did mark old belt with R cam "l", if that helps any) put tensioner and

hand cranked until the factory markings on the belt came around 4 times (1/2

ratchet proper socket with spark plugs in, felt a little resistance but I figured it

was compression and just turning a V8 but hand)


And that's where I left it...I have one more day off work and would really appreciate any advice on this.

Did I f*** my car up? because I didn't return it to 0* before taking off old belt?
Is there a way to address the issue if so?

I have a 2005 SR5 4x2 that has been solid since new with no problem and no need for any repair--not even oil change. I am about to go on a road trip, so I decided to do some maintenance. Thanks to the information I found on this forum and other places on the web. After extensive research, I decided to replace the engine oil and transmission fluid.

First, I was going to change the engine oil but I couldn't find the stick to check its level inside the oil cap. So I decided to wait and do it later. Maybe after my cross country road trip.

Next, I saw a dipstick on the other side of the engine compartment, so that must be the dipstick for the transmission. The transmission fluid must be really low because all I could see is a little black tar at the tip of the dipstick. So instead of replacing the transmission fluid, I just topped it off with 2.5 quarts. It was very tough pouring the transmission fluid through that narrow tube. Why would any one design the car that way? I thought Toyota engineers are better than that. Anyway, it was finally done and I have some transmission fluid left, so I used it to top up the brake fluid reservoir because I heard that the two fluids are interchangeable.















Finally, I woke up. And I am so glad that no such things were actually done to my newly acquired 4Runner

 

Bout to say, you're either trolling, or just have no clue. Glad you're neither.

 

And if your coolant & windshield washer fluids are low, bovine urine does the trick.

How are those LED's as far as range? Would you say they are pretty close to a standard driving light? I know short range they are likely much brighter but down the road is what I'm asking about.

I actually went out and scientifically measured this. I'm picking up reflection off of signs at 250 yards. They are much brighter than stock driving lights- my brights are pointless as these cast light out about twice as far.

 

Changed the driver side CV axle/serviced the front diff, transfer case and rear diff.

 

Did a lot today! Removed the faux hood scoop so I get airflow through it. No real performance increase, but I guess more cold air keeps the engine cooler. If you subscribe to the Ideal Gas Law, having cold airflow over the engine instead of hot air could increase the intake velocity and volume (or rather, the hot air tries to expand into the intake, heating the air and creating static pressure. Moved the spare into the cabin above the rear wheels to reduce my moment of inertia. Also made and installed a custom shift knob.

Also performed a 2wd adaptation of Ramonortiz55's VSC off mod (a huge pain in my ass) and went drifting around a gravel road right by about 250 police officers who were out shooting or something. Pretty fun day.

 

Yesterday 5/2 I installed a set of FJ steel wheels and new tires on my 06 Sport. wheels are new take offs.

 

Well today was a big day! I decided to push back studying for a final to work on Elmo, and I'm glad I did! Ran to Autozone for some brighter headlights but got the wrong part and had to go back, which is when I picked up some spray on rubber for the grille and a tint to put on the headlights. Here's the daily update:

I also saw a Jeep with cool brakelights so I snapped a picture.

I think I'm going to replace the front bumper with a fab piece soon, Just need to get metal. I can weld the common metals, anybody have suggestions as to what to use?

 

Repaired the rear wiper arm.

 

How? Mine hardly touches my back window.....

 

I installed a good used on one mine with a new OEM refill.
If it is not touching, the spring may be weak or broken. All of the parts are available online from any number of wholesale Toyota dealers.
by the way if yours does not have the original wiper blades I highly recommend getting a new set for the front and the rear. I have had three of these 4runners and every aftermarket blade is noisy and skates across the windshield. This drives me crazy. the last two I bought used and replaced both with OEM. The original blades are nearly silent and wipe very smoothly. Get them online for under $20 each and while you are ordering get some refills for later. the refills are only about $5.
If you need I can get the Toyota part numbers for you.

 

Changed out my blown jbl sub went with an inexpensive pioneer 2 ohm dual coil. It actually sounds great real happy with It.

 

Added Usb ports to the console of my 4th gen.

 

Making a new grille. Still working on the design.

 

Did full timing belt kit and serpentine belt kit

 

I purchased mine today. First tank of gas!

 

Doing things

 

Pulled the ABS control module out and found another locally that I'm picking up tmr to install. Found one that a-didn't cost a fortune and b-didn't ha a ton of miles on it already. Saved me from scrapping a reliable 15 year old vehicle!
