I replaced the mud flaps as I was unable to bring them back to life. They were bleached out by the sun and made the car look old. They were about $120 from Toyota. I also removed and painted the side nerf step bars that were faded. They came out OK but the plastic foot insert pieces still look old. I am keeping the car IMG_3420.jpg IMG_3421.jpg IMG_3423.jpg IMG_3422.jpg OEM but just want it to look neat and clean.

    The actuator?
It cost about 700$, Aisin branded part.

    Your 4RUNNER is a v8?
I think that actuator is cheaper.
    Mine is 2H, 4H, & 4Low. (v6)
    Aren't the v8's 4H & 4L only?

I did the first oil change today on my V6 since I purchased it. It was about time. I used Valvoline 5W-30 full synthetic, I will see how it will do. Also some overall coating as winter and SALT approaches :crapstorm:

This week I added a Smittybilt XRC 9500 winch on a Budbuilt hidden winch mount. It was supposed to be a Christmas gift from my wife but since we'll be spending 2 weeks at Christmas in the NC mountains she let me go ahead and install it now.

So I was really wanting a wireless remote for the winch so I got one of the cheap ones on Amazon. Unfortunately, using it would have required me to splice the wires inside the control box. I didn't want to do that out of fear of voiding the Smittybilt warranty. So after a little research I found one made by Warn for the Smittybilt that plugs directly in where the wired remote plugs and allows you to use your smartphone to control the winch and also see info like your battery level. Just ordered it today. Once I get it I'll try to report back on how I like it, (or not). Also; it's on sale for 22% off right now. Regularly $101 on Amazon and now it's $78. It sells for $124 on the Warn site. This is it:

Just thought I would add that Warn also has these devices, (or similar ones) for some other brands. So if you don't have a Smittybilt winch you can check and see and maybe they have one for your brand. BTW, I haven't received mine yet so this isn't an endorsement for the quality etc. But since it's made by Warn I'm expecting it to be good.

Changed oil at 4000 miles, rotated tires and inspected brake pads. The pads are nice and thick and show even wear all around. (I had the stopping on ice trouble thread). Inspected the frame, it's too bad they didn't press out a U channel frame that could dry out on both sides, but it looks okay. Then took it for a drive in 4 hi, 4 low with center locked and unlocked in the snow.

Just picked this beauty up 3 weeks ago. Completely bone stock when I got her. Really well maintained. So far I’ve done the headlights, fog lights, and replaced my blown out sub with the Rockford Fosgate shallow 8 inch. Ordered lift kit, wheels, and tires so waiting on that. And once I put all of that on I’m gonna do a paint correction and polish2A01AE13-5925-4E2A-97CE-65239C72D94C.jpg

Is that Rockford fosgate sub a direct plug n play or do you have to power it with its own amp?

It was plug and play for the most part. I cut the stock connectors off and plugged the raw wires in. Each connector has two wires so leave those two colors together when you plug it into the sub. It adds a bunch more bass to the sound system and I love it

Seen a couple people do this mod so I figured I’d give this a try. I got tired of the poor light the fog lights would produce. Went with led pods and installed them in the fog light housing and re sealed the lens produces MUCH better lighting.

Took my parents / my future 4Runner up to Lake Arrowhead from San Diego this weekend. Drove like a champ.

Already ordered the Scion T10015 head unit as the jerry-rigged Bluetooth adapter was a pain in the ass to use. Getting a Bluetooth enabled head unit will be top priority.

Well what I did wasn't in one day but ended up taking almost two weeks. I set out to do 2 things. I wanted to add full time power to the outlet in the right rear and I wanted to add a front camera along with the Anytime Camera setup. I pulled out the R/rear interior and the rear seats and ran an 8 gauge wire straight from the battery positive. While I had all that apart I decided to pull out the lh panel as well and do a better job on the routing of the wires to my small sub. All that went well with no hiccups. Then on to the Anytime Camera system. Installed the front camera with no problems. Then pulled the head unit. After trying unsuccessfully to get the camera system to work I called the guy at Anytime Camera and we suspected the unit was bad. He suggested I order another one from Amazon to get it more quickly which was really a good idea until the USPS screwed up and it got lost. I was supposed to receive it on Sunday but the it didn't show up and the tracking showed it left Concord NC on Friday. The tracking never changed so on Wednesday after my car had been apart for 10 days I ordered another one since I didn't know if the first one was ever gonna show up. That evening when I got home the first one had arrived. Long story short I got it installed with a lot of technical support from Anytime Camera. Turns out I had made several errors in wiring it up. So it's likely the first camera was ok to begin with. They still refunded me for it and the one I installed is working flawlessly. Can't say enough about this company, their product and their customer service. Plus, on 4th gens you actually use a 4 way video switcher rather than the total plug and play system on the 5th gens. It's a little more work to install but the cost on the switcher is less than $40 plus whatever camera you choose. I'm totally satisfied with the system. Lastly while I had the console out I decided to clean up the mess of wiring I had. In the power outlet of the console I had a 3 way plug with three cords plus another one installed for my carplay in one of the blind plugs beside the DAC switch. One of the cords hung down from my dashcam and another ran to a rechargeable camera mounted to the rh side of the console. So I bought two USB outlets and wired one inside the console for the flashlight and another in the roof behind the console where the map lights are. Added one more USB outlet on the console for passenger phone charging and I no longer have a hideous bird nest of wiring all over and around my console. Sorry for the long post but I couldn't think of a way to shorten it.

Almost forgot one other thing I did that I really like. I have a homemade box in the rear that I store all my tools, recovery gear etc in and it also has a pullout table that we use for picnics etc. Well I never seem to have enough light back there after dark so I wanted to upgrade. I bought an led camper dome light, painted the housing gray and installed it where the original light was. It puts out an enormous amount of light. A very cheap, very easy upgrade. This is the one I bought: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CN6P9BR...roduct_details
