Since the corrosion is off the engine bay. I sprayed with a little CRC 656 last spring. Its been covered. But has been sitting. I wanted to see how low the battery would go. Well It slowly started.lolIMG_9589.jpg

I have a 3rd gen 4 Runner purchased new love it wonderful vehicle but RUST has taken over due to the inferior steel that toyota used I have 170 k miles it would last another 10 + years if it wasn't for the rust. I filed a complaint with the NHTSA in 2017 tracking #10991390. vehicle wasn't voluntarily recalled like the Tacomas and Tundras due to there were so many of them in service. There is no way this can be repaired because the rust is that bad. This wasn't a weather issue depending on where you lived it was the steel that was used for production. The NHTSA feels as though no one was killed because of this structural rust issue. If TOYOTA replaced the tacoma and tundra the NHTSA should have required them to replace the 4 Runner chassis also. Is there any help out there for this matter. I have been a consumer of TOYOTA PRODUCTS since 1978 where as my new celica rusted away still running good after 15 years of use.

Took Mecedes in for nail trimming. Ran like brand new. Thousand miles until oil change. And I swap out two quarts of AT fluid.

I took my 4R to the gas station for coffee and soda. And to dry it. I sees a guy I know, I says, "you get a new car", he says "someone wrecked my other one" I says,"thats nice."

SRQ fabrications 3” lift completely rebuilt front end Toyota lower ball joints, freedom off-road uca, moog lca, SRQ extended sway bar links, JDM motor swap with 50k on it, 300+k miles on chassis, roof light bar, extended steel braided brake lines, rebuilt rear drums all brand new components, she’s a work in progress. Next up is front and rear bumper upgrades, snorkel, winch, new tires soon and last on list will be a fresh wrap over top of the California sun baked paint (I want it known I do not live in Cali, I’m in northern Michigan, thank God, lol). This rig has been a passion project for my wife and I over the past couple years, we work and live on the road out of my semi truck pulling oversized loads so we only get so much time to contribute to the ole girl, but we love it and it’s been a great learning experience for us to do together.
finishing up a total rebuild on my 97’ all new UCA’s LCA’s 3” SRQ lift with bilstien 5100 long travel heavier springs JDM motor swap 2 years ago, most recent fix was blowout brake line right behind the front passenger tire so I spliced in some new 5/16th line last night going out to bleed the brakes again today

None. Bone Stock. EXCEPT: Brushguard, tow hitch, both welded to the frame. It's good to have friends and a fully equipped garage!
    That looks great overall, HOWEVER...
The backing plate has a lot of rust on it. Did you consider replacing it, or at the very least taking a needle gun or a Green Pad to it, and a coat or three of Rustoleum or something? You take the truck into a Rust Belt area, I don't think the backing plate would last very long. Since that's where all the parts for the drum brake mount to, if it starts to give way, the drums will quit, no?

Just a thought. I get so few any more...

I smeared lithium greese assembly lube on the bolts and rear end. During the rear stock spring swap and tow hitch install.

Yanked out the interior. All of it. Sunroof was leaking. Turned out one of the drain hoses wasn't even connected so water was literally pouring into the headliner. Fixed that, cleaned everything up, added some sound dampening throughout. Replaced the rear latch. Discovered some broken wires in the rear hatch (hinge area). So, what I did "today" has turned into what I'm doing all week. I don't have a garage to work in so I am also hampered by the snow and wet weather we're having...

Had a good oil leak from the valve cover, so while I had everything apart I decided to paint the covers bright red, and matched up the vacuum lines with red silicon. Also got some 1.25” heat shrink in red to cover some of the other hoses that you can’t use silicon for. Not sure if I like the heat shrink but it’s done now. Either way I think it looks good overall
