His problem sounds like the power loss I see at elevation. It is apparent at 6k and highly disappointing by 8k. Below that the 4.0 keeps up with traffic just fine. I would like to hear if anyone has regeared over elevation power loss and what results they saw.

I drive in S4 a lot around town. Rather than "D" which upshifts to 5th gear even at low road speed. I prefer more engine rpm driving under 45/50 mph. It makes my SR5 much more responsive to throttle. So S4 gives me gears 1, 2, 3, 4 and does not go to 5 unless I push the shift lever forward a notch. But if I want 5th gear I put shift lever in "D".
Using S4 keeps me from speeding as I do not want a moving violation. The reving engine alerts me I am going faster.
Found this chart on-line. It supposidly shows torque converter lock up at different speeds. It was useful when I was trying to solve a tranny FlexLock shudder/chatter problem with my SR5

Yes. Sometimes 4th, or even 3rd gear is required to maintain those speeds. For example, when towing, or climbing long grades.

Trying to recall those prolonged steep grades back in August since I live at sea level and it’s pretty flat here. And no I don’t recall I was hitting 70, not towing but a weeks worth of gear. I think 60 in 4th for the most part on those climbs. Just remember everyone was passing me.

In our Colorado mountain passes I accept that I will be in the right lane with the semi trucks. Otherwise I would be at 5,500 RPM with someone close behind me.

Yeah, and coincidentally I was on my way to CO. Driving in the far right with so many folks passing me was a new experience as my last car was a zippy WRX.

On a road trip I discovered Southern Utah has 85 mph on major highways/Interstates. Semi trucks allowed too.
In rolling hills the big trucks would slow into 70's even 60's. Then they get going to 85, 90 + on down hills. This is even in the right lane. Matching flow of traffic was survival!
I prefer crusing highways 70-75. I am on holiday. I carefully inspected my tires every gas stop. I grew to love my Scanguage 2 set on all 4 tire pressures. I did not want a soft tire becoming a blowout!

While it’s cool to have high speed limits, there’s such wide mix of vehicle types and so many poorly maintained vehicles on the interstate, that it’s surprising there aren’t massive wrecks all the time.

When I drove through the rockies this summer, I could not believe the amount of disabled vehicles and blown tires on the interstate. And the speed limit wasn’t even that high (70-75). Although that didn’t seem to stop dodge rams from going 90 with a half-cocked sofa, or other loose garbage in the back lol.

Most people put off maintenance items for months. Now half of them cant afford to do any maintenance. Most of the members on here are a small minority in that we do maintenance regularly on our vehicles. Half the country would rather feed their families then worry about an oil change.
Now the trash floating around in the back of a full size pickup? That's copyright infringement, because Florida has exclusive rights to that priviledge.
