Windshield has technology in it like the camera interconnects, needs to be recalibrated and shit anytime you want to replace. Personally I don't need or want stuff like that but it's the new norm I understand. Not on my 2016 it ain't.

Dealership wants to collect data and track you're data and behavior more than some realize. They don't always make everything clearly known to you and can be difficult to work with to disable features. Re: connected services; safety connect, service connect, etc

Keyless fob technology comes with concerns about theft, allows addition methods for thieves to unlock and start your vehicle. Yes, there is a lot of info out there to curb this, but I'll stick with my key thank you.

have you used any google or fb product in last couple of decades it will eclipse whatever Toyota is collecting. Plus opt out is an option.

Pls keep going, I am curious why a 4Runner 2019 or lower is da-bomb and 2020+ are dripping with so much tech that they’ll break if you drive fast on a pothole

I'm a simple guy, and a good enough driver to not want or need even blind spot mirrors, lane assist, safety sense, automatic parking. Less is more I feel. Once the day comes that someone gets hit with a bill to service these things, the love may wear off a little.

 

I love my tech, but I agree with you. That's exactly why I bought a 2019 just before they added the nanny systems (though good, not perfect). Plus I see way more issues with what I call post COVID models with all this extra tech. They even had a shortage of key fobs so they went back to keys for some models.

One day ill have a battery powered 4Runner/Landcruiser/GX550, but not till I feel they are refined to what I feel they should be.

 

Yeah buddy, I agree with ya'll - like enjoy material things and Amazon and tech like everyone does. I'm in the tech industry. I know it all fails and is overpriced. So I really enjoy my 2016 and it's somewhat closeness to the older simple v6 4Runners. If I could I wish I could have grown up in an older generation, especially during disco lol

Anyways, @Dare2Dream OP, sorry to hijack your thread a bit.
The 2024 4R is a killer vehicle, do it. Figure out getting your hands on a 6th gen after a few years pass, and perhaps after a facelift happens.

 

Imma take wild guess and say the first year of new 4Runner will have less major recalls and problems than usual, since it will likely get an engine, frame, and some other parts already in use on other vehicles.

But yah, normally buying first year of new model is a bit of a gamble.

 

This is way too true. I unfortunately will be shoved into up to my Ying Yang, but at least it’s still a 5th gen. But if you can get a good one and tech-less that’s much better. Just hearing the words “windshield camera alignment for $2k” after a rock chip grosses me out, you don’t have that problem with pre-2020.

Same boat. Made the decision to get a 24'. Drive it to the ground, by then 6th gen will have all the kinks out. Win win.

 

By the time you drive it into the ground, 7th gen will be out. They're that good.

Meanwhile even the 70-series Land Cruiser sold in global markets is getting adaptive cruise control and blindspot monitoring (see the covers where the tail lights used to be?)

I can remember renting one of the earlier Chevy Suburban's many years ago. It was like driving a battle ship filled with water. LOL But, I had to admit, when hauling both people and luggage on a long highway drive, it was hard to beat.
