ordered the simple dummy one will try to use a couple of cr2032s with a simple voltage booster on data pins. Wont hve enough power to harm anyone but hoping will be able to fry anyones devices trying to access obd.

Pause to consider the situation. You have someone inside your car and that someone is clearly not afraid of committing a crime. Is it wise to fry their electronics? Unless you combine that with a loud audible alarm, you likely going to end up with a trashed interior in retaliation.

Additionally, if you ever take the car for warranty work, budget for buying dealer a replacement tool, as you could forget to disarm it and will be at fault for damage.

My buddy leaves one of these on the seat of his truck in bad neighborhoods everyday. He had one truck stolen, started using this and ironically nobody wants to seem to mess with it. I guess it’s easier to find another vehicle.

As the old slogan goes “take a bite out of crime” still applies

Interior would be trashed but would still have a 4runner vs having none. An alarm is a good idea! Yeah would haveto remember to keep legitimate ppl safe, including me lol.

It's a jurisdictional issue between port police and regular police. Seems that they are now collaberating to steem the flood.

Not sure on that. Mine arrived from Lithuania on time and as described even though I was a bit leary due to country of origin. Ordered off ebay and all good. Just can't speak for USA ordering but the site is legit. I'm Canadian and it was a good transaction and it worked as described. My dummy OBD plug is dead bus wise but my relocated OBD port works just fine for all computer access.

That is messed up. Very unfortunate they let jurisdiction issues prevent taking action this long.

Against my better judgement I'm going to step in to this discussion. I say that, because on the TRX forum I frequent, security options have been beaten to death quiet painfully I think I might have PTSD. Regardless, all the above options have been discussed there, and it almost always boils down to a debate about Ravelco, which has been discussed here, and one other option which I'm shocked hasn't been mentioned, and I can't find via search on this forum.

That option is what I've gone with for my TRX, which is called "IGLA". It's basically a tiny parasitic module (no battery issues) they bury in the miles of cabling deep behind the entire dashboard covered in factory tape so it's literally impossible to find, which interrupts the CANBUS, thereby preventing any new keys being made (no need for physical OBD block), and will not allow the vehicle to start unless you have one of three things -

    1. A custom pin code you set as the owner which is entered into the vehicle via button pushes on the steering wheel or dashboard and can be up to like 24 buttons
    2. A bluetooth key fob (some don't like this because the bluetooth could theoretically be picked up by a thief sitting next to your vehicle - faraday bags help)
    3. An app that uses bluetooth from your phone (also susceptible to theifs snatching the RF).
Another feature it has is Carjack mode - so if you have the vehicle running and open the driver door for more than 3 seconds, then drive off, your hazards will progressively start to flash faster and faster prompting you to enter your pin code, after which if you don't, it will kill the engine at the next time it comes to a stop.

One other feature is that it does not interupt remote start, which Ravelco does. I can still remote start my truck and then when I hop in, I just have to enter my pin code and I can go. If i don't enter the pin, and then shift out of Park, nothing happens, it will move the shifter, but the vehicle will not shift into R or D.

The question always comes up - what do I do when I drop it off for service? Options:
    1. Give them the passcode (most don't like this for obvious reasons)
    2. Create a temporary passcode for them
    3. Give them the bluetooth fob
    4. There is a way to put it in service mode which allows the vehicle to start, but will engage IGLA if the vehicle exceeds 50MPH or some number like that (can't recall)
    Biggest draw backs:
    1. Some people complain about the annoyance of the physical pin code - for me I use this option as it's not difficult, and alleviates the bluetooth risk. Literally takes me 5 seconds to enter before starting.
    2. It is pricey - $1,200 installed. However, so far as that forum has seen, it is undefeatable. Only way is with a tow truck.
    3. Some people inevitably complain about IGLA being a Russian company. Haven't heard a good argument for why that's a concern, nor has any of the guys had any problems with their systems.
I just got my first 4Runner last week (2016 SR5 Trail Premium) and have an appointment for IGLA to be installed this Saturday. Happy to answer any questions you all have.

Anyways, sorry for the long post, but security has been a big deal for us TRX owners as those things are getting stolen frequently and I park mine outside. Some other things I've done include:
    1. Apple Air Tags (obsoleted as a result of #3)
    2. Add a shock sensor - did this myself, was quiet sketchy cutting a factory wire loom, but has worked like a charm (also obsoleted by #3)
    3. Compustar Drone - gives a shock sensor and GPS tracking via phone app
    4. Relocated my horn - thieves will cut the wires from the TRX because of it being located right behind the front grill
*I have no affiliation with IGLA, but it's been really nice to have. Gives me peace of mind, and people actually seem to think it's really cool when they see you entering the pin code. Hopefully you all found this helpful.

I think he is referring to a Dodge Ram TRX off-road pickup with nice big engine (I assume)

I saw this concept CBC in this Canadian car theft topic. They had a dude that put a program in where you create a series of buttons to press prior to car starting.

So as an example you might press arrow up for radio station three times, then press cruise control on twice, then start button. If you don’t do those step in that sequence the the thief is up shits creek and can’t start the vehicle. You create the series of step. I think the posters reference above is similar to this type of system. Unfortunately I did not catch the name of this system on CBC Marketplace show. Apparently this is readily available overseas but not as much in Canada anyway.

For us Americans I have I no idea. I just get to see the CBC shows living close to the border.

That is correct, I'm referring to my RAM TRX (technically no longer made by Dodge), see profile pic.

As for the IGLA I'm referring to, yes, that is correct, it's a series of button pushes on the dash or steering wheel that the owner establishes. IGLA is available in the US, not sure on Canada. See below YouTube:
