Well I stopped by the dealer today, while they didn't have a new trd pro. They has a 2020 mgm trd pro. Took it for a test drive.

Now you guys that say it's loud or has a drone, what was your previous vehicle?

While yes it kinda loud, I don't think its drones its just a v6 with exhaust. Ever heard a Ford raptor?

I also thought the trd pro rode SO much smoother then my eibach shocks. But thats a different topic.

So if anyone wants to get rid of your trd exhaust and your close to Pennsylvania pm me

A Raptor definitely isn't as loud inside. It's a pickup so the sound is separated and they have better sound deadening.

Depends on how you drive it and your taste. I found it loudest around 2000-2500 RPM which is my normal shift point. Above that it does get quiet.

TRD PRO exhaust too loud?? Never understood that. Theres nothing special about it to make it loud, actually I think its on the quiet side. Maybe People becoming soft now?? Want an off road rig but sound like a Prius, not gonna happen.

Let alone, your AT or MT tires are louder than the PRO exhaust

What does soft mean to not liking a loud cabin? You might have earplugs for eardrums and not hear anything. You might like the sound which I believe is a preference. Also, how does the off-road exhaust improve off-roading?

I just put a TRD exhaust on my 2023 TRD ORP and it actually sounds really good. It definitely does not drone like others have said they do. I have had Mustangs that you could not hear yourself think in and just got rid of my Audi S5 which had the V6 supercharged with a AWE track exhaust and that thing was louder then this. I know to each is their own but there is just a little nice deep rumble now and even my wife commented on how good it sounds.

Some people don’t understand what drone is and of course different tastes. However there’s more people that don’t like it than people that do like it. That says something to me but I gave it a shot and ended up not liking it.

I remember when I was deciding between ordering a ‘22 TRD Pro or an Off Road, and was really digging the lime green (my wife hated the colour). When I started to realize the drone in all the test videos, I knew it would drive me nuts. For reference, except for my last vehicle I’ve had aftermarket on 5 previous cars from a local shop specializing in exhausts. Drove a ‘21 TRD Pro recently and glad I avoided it because of the exhaust. Not sure what Toyota was thinking on this one, very ricer / poor design. It shouldn’t be intrusive for the wrong reason, no balance in good sound vs bad.

I find it to be more annoying than loud. But after road tripping in my wife's Volvo it does seem loud. If I had the option I would have preferred the stock exhaust over the Pro exhaust.

I don't get why they have it exiting out the side killing clearance in that spot. It should have been an under exit like aftermarket options to avoid scrapes and bends. If I ever feel the need to swap out my stock exhaust for something with more sound, I'll go with Borla.

quite the opposite. You’re more likely to scrape the tip on the stock exhaust from the departure angle than side exit.

That’s the main thing I like on it. If it wasn’t for that I would rather have the stock exhaust because of the drone. I don’t think the drone is horrible but it’s not great either.

The drone while driving ~2000rpm is kinda annoying. Everything else about the vehicle is top notch. Did not test drive the PRO before ordering, but had driven my buddy's OR-P which is great. If PRO exhaust was an option I would opt out - but it's not annoying enough to spend money to change it. YMMV

If you are in the Boston area and want the TRD cat back make me an offer. Its going on local Craigslist/marketplace too.

    400 miles on it.

Did you just replace the muffler only? Dealer wanted $2300 for what appears to be $400 muffler job. Was the original TRD PRO muffler bolt on or welded?

I travel 14 hours to CO to my 2nd home and I get a headache every time I go there and push via mountains as the gen 4 finds a gear.

I have tinnitus and can be picky with exhausts. I spent a fortune on some niche titanium exhaust for another car not for the weight savings but just because it was the smoothest sounding, lowest droning aftermarket option.

The stock exhaust was my biggest worry when buying this truck but figured I’d just immediately swap it. Honestly…..I don’t understand all the complaints lol maybe my threshold is higher than I thought but I don’t find it to be that bad.

It’s definitely not the best execution of a “sporty” OEM truck exhaust and it does drone at certain RPM. If I drove a ton of highway miles to work each day maybe I’d be more annoyed. But for my short commute and the things I use the truck for, I kind of like the character it adds over a quieter 4Runner. Even the drone isn’t like some WRX STI with a loud exhaust.

Will obviously never sound like a V8 but don’t mind some grunt when I step on the pedal.

Way too much. You can get a used non pro system and just have an exhaust shop change the flanges if you still want the side exit.

My wife really wants me to swap my pro exhaust. I haven't done ot yet. After 3 shops one shop agreed to swap the muffler and weld the end to have the side exhaust so mine looks stock. 1 shop denied even to regular SR5/TRD ORP exhaust. They said they only replace with parts the vehicle came with. The other shop said no to cut and weld. They want to replace entire cat back. Only ExhaustPros at Colfax on Denver CO agree to change just the muffler and weld the side exhaust. I haven't pulled the trigger yet. Trying to skip cutting and welding work.

You may not get much for the TRD exhaust. What I did was buy an OEM muffler from Toyota and had my muffler shop put a flange on the OEM muffler so that the rear section of the TRD exhaust was retained. So my Pro still looks like a Pro but is no longer contributing to my hearing loss. Best of all worlds as I love the side outlet of the TRD Pro system....but the drone is horrible. The muffler shop guy told me it was developed by Magnusen and it's supposed to increase "top end" power a little at the expense of low end torque. I definitely can tell there's a bit more torque on throttle tip in with the standard muffler.

A good muffler shop can weld a flange that mates to the rear section of the TRD exhaust. The job that my shop did looks amazing; find a competent shop and don't hesitate. I bought the OEM standard muffler and the muffler shop charged me $150 to weld a compatible flange so I could use the rear section of the TRD exhaust. I couldn't be happier with this setup. While you're at the shop....have them recycle the horrid Magnusen/TRD muffler; you won't get any money for it.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
In 2022 I had the financial go-ahead from my better half to buy any 4R I wanted. I thought I really liked the Pro….until I test drove one. There is no way I could take that noise on a long trip. The only thing I liked on the Pro the ORP didn’t have was the duel zone HVAC.
I then test drove a KDSS ORP and I was sold on its road manners along with no need to swap exhaust and remove that awful rack, we just have to fiddle with the HVAC controls now.

I have one on my 4.0 taco & it’s not that bad. l believe it’s can be louder (on a 4Runner) because the sound reverberates & bounces around more inside the larger cabin :lalala:

I don't find the TRD exhaust loud at all. I guess too many years of driving *actually* loud cars has desensitized me to noise. Doesn't bother my wife at all - dog doesn't seem to mind. Catless S6, catless big turbo VW, modified raptor - all much louder than the TRD exhaust. Hell, my stock wrangler had more cabin noise.

I think what happens to many remove them and don’t drive it for a while. I thought my 20 Pro was louder than my 23 Pro. Yes I’m older but very familiar how loud exhausts can being owning enough corvettes.
