A picture of each mount helps followed by some dimensions of specific key points as noted above but just a few examples -

    Driver side width of bracket

    Passenger side width of bracket

    Height of brackes

Radius cut if bracket is rounded on one end

Distance from center of hole to one end (please specify where the end point is)

Also not sure if the opening is the same as the lower mount not to mention the bolt hole size; if they're the same then I have these dimensions

Assuming the parts in question aren't compromised.

Would you be willing to make another set of these? I too have the same issue with my 4Runner, and am struggling to find an easy pattern to fix it.

I absolutely can; think I can make a set as early as tomorrow.

I just never got confirmation if the fitment worked out for them however a little grinding down never hurt anyone ;)

Hi Kwikvette, have you made any of these for a 4th gen? They look "close enough" to me. Ha. Both of my rear upper mounts have rusted out rendering my 4Runner to the role of an outdoor/driveway storage unit. Very sad. This is the passenger side, which is the better of the two lol. of course, the driver side is right in front of the gas tank which is super great for welding.

I haven't, would just need dimensions all around for a 4th Gen to get some going.

Thanks, that's going to be tough because there's not much left of the original. I might have to find one in a boneyard that still happens be have good but then if I did that I guess I could cut that one out...

It looks damn close to the 3rd Gen layout. Being an upper mount, would need just a few figures (not all of them) to get something mocked up.

Just shoot me a PM if you want!

I can, and have shipped to Canada before as well

    Is it for a 3rd Gen 4R?

It's actually for a 2007 toyota fj, Let me take a look and see if I can match up the year for the part. I'm pretty sure I read that they are the same.

Well, I know of one or two vehicles in which you can buy a sort of replacement part.

But there won't be any part number you can find for the 3rd Gen 4Runner as it's not a user-serviceable component.

They are welded to the axle housing from the factory and are basically a lifetime part.

I do make parts, often and ongoing, but won't feel comfortable making selling you something not meant specific for your vehicle.

Let me do a little bit more research because from my understanding, the Toyota FJ And the 4runner have interchangeable parts for a lot of the frame and running gear. When I looked up this whole cross member I believe this was one of them.

My husband is a welder, so welding. It is not an issue at all.

I'll confirm with you shortly on the matching 4runner gen to the fj.

    This is freakin awesome @Kwikvette

Is the art of bracketry a thing? It should be. I started dabbling in bracketry with simple angle iron, a center punch and a drill. Then I bought a cheap HF drill press and now it seems the world is my oyster. Besides the the drill press, I’ve found a file, hammer, angle grinder, and a wire welder will get you far, but very slowly lol.

My only problem is that I’ll spend too much time coming up with complex but “perfect” ideas on how to mount things up, when much simpler approaches will do. But still, it’s cool to look at things you’ve made.

Great work, and much admiration from me! I assume you are a fabricator professionally? How much does a laser cutter and assorted tools set one back?

So, the 2007 Fj is the equivalent to the 4th generation 4runner for this vehicle part.

I appreciate you taking the time to notice!

I'm just a basic DIYer, doing stuff from home while being self-taught.

Wish I had a laser! That's plasma cutting on CNC but I do have a few tools that have helped along the way although, only after doing other fabrication jobs have I been able to purchase them.

Looking at those first pictures, that was a poor excuse of a welding table (a steel sheet tack welded to the top of a harbor freight table) as well as a small 2' x 2' plasma table.

But to answer your question, table will run you over $3k. Add another $1k for a plasma cutter (more or less depending on what you get).

Additional tooling like a nicer torch, mount, etc so easily $400 - 500+.

Air compressor so a minimum of $700+ as you need good CFM's.

You need dry air for sure as inline filters don't do justice. My refrigerated air added another $700 almost. At the same time, you do want to add those inline filters to get rid of any remaining moisture and I surely have about $200 in that alone.

You don't need a good computer for running the table but you do for CAD work so at least another $1k or more there and lastly, all the time you'll spend learning everything about anything CNC.

This doesn't include the metal you'll purchase and time spent just dialing it all in too.

I'm working on this project now on the Tacoma forum -

    20240715_124611.jpg

    20240715_160829.jpg

It's an internal bed stiffener meant for 2nd and 3rd Gen Tacoma's.

Everything needs to be precise and I may have about 33 orders pending once I confirm final fitment.

Awesome. I didn’t know plasma cuts that cleanly! The compressed air is the thing I keep forgetting about with plasma cutting. Every time I start to daydream, I remember that the plasma cutter itself is just the price of admission lol.

I assume you set up the CNC rig yourself? Or was that a complete product?

This is my latest project I don’t have enough time for. I’m making a load floor for the 4runner, and eventually figured out some brackets that would load into them “correctly”. It seems Toyota designed them for the bolts to take shear loads, so that’s what I’m trying to guarantee with the using the factory hard points. I leave for a week long trip this friday, And I’m not going to say how long it took me to get this far lol

It does, if your air is dry enough and your setup is dialed in

Unfortunately in the CNC world, there's a lot of gatekeeping.

I've done my best to help in several groups I'm in, and have even gone as far as paying for Zoom (still do currently) to perform lots of one-on-one meetings to help others whether it's design work (2D only), CAM, and other CNC-related items.

I take on a lot of PM's daily on Facebook just to help others. My take is that I believe everyone should succeed - it's painfully expensive just to start and it's crazy discouraging when you just want the thing to work correctly (without realizing there's a lot more work involved after the purchase).

But no the CNC table I got isn't a DIY setup. Many spend just as much for a turn-key table than they do on a DIY table.

My next upgrade will be for an STV CNC table, most likely a 5' x 5' if not a 4' x 4' although I'm not sure if I want to go with a Sparx or Pro.

The Pro gets many upgrades (controller, motor, frame, etc) that bridges the gap from the Sparx to the Pro to about $1k. The bigger advantage with the Pro is that it uses a welded frame. At the same time, that's the downfall with the Pro as you can purchase a kit to extend the Sparx variant to it's bigger brother version.

Either option sets you back over $10k just for the table itself though :spending:

    That's a cool project!

Based on things being ripped out and the angling of everything, I can bet you really took your time in getting the angles just right once everything was said and done.

Thanks! Well, it’s not said and done yet. I’m currently procrastinating…which means I’m not done thinking yet lol. Hopefully this ends in one big productive burst before friday lol.

I can kind of understand the “gate-keeping” aspect of all this. These tools and the knowledge to use them are the foundations of our modern society, and ultimately a source of power and profit. Some will seek to keep the knowledge and profit to themselves, others pass it forward, knowing that’s it’s for the betterment of anyone willing to learn these skills.

Seriously, I can’t think of many things that are as powerful as the ability to form metal into what you want it to do.

It’s a damn shame schools don’t spend the majority of their efforts into facilitating true apprenticeship programs for skills like these.

People like you are what keep good things going!

I charge $70 for a set welded and ready to go + shipping.

But again I don't have any dimensions for a 4th Gen so these will not work.

I'm not in the business of selling people incorrect parts, hope you understand!
