Viper cut will make up for the diminished lubrication performance

^I always laugh when people give cute names like "viper cut" to trimming bumper covers. I mean, it's just plastic.

    That's weird.

There were a bunch of people in this thread claiming there would be no performance differences between certified oils.

Do we believe there are differences now?

to me "viper cut" sounds way more cool than "i cut plastic" on my new 4runner. when someone says "viper cut" we all know exactly what they mean. When you say "i cut plastic" there will be 10 posts after, asking you to explain what you mean.

I've been using Pennzoil for decades, but now that I know Mobil makes Toyota oil I may switch to that when I do my 1st oil change @5k.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
In the most recent Project Farm comparison of OEM oils the Toyota brand finished last.

There's a distinction to recognize between differences in ad-hoc demonstrations vs. significant differences actual engine wear, especially when the conclusions is given an arbitrary score. (Yes, he defined how the score is calculated from combining individual ad-hoc results, but it's still arbitrary). There was nothing in these tests to show that any of the products were inadequate for their intended purpose.

I love Project Farm and his tests, but in this case it's irrelevant to how oil will truly preform. It's definitely not a test I would use to determine what oil is better in my car. Much better resources for that.

OIL IS OIL.....if it meets the specs. All manufacturers want you to use there's because they profit off it when you do. There are only so many oil makers [packagers] and the one that gets the bid gets their label. Use whatever brand you like if it meets the specs.

Moly doesn't seem to be thing anymore in the TGMO.
66 ppm? About a tenth of what it used to be.
I'm sure it's the trimer moly being used by Mobil.
The whole additive package seems pretty light by comparison.

I wonder if the PQIA data was a misprint? Blackstone analysis from around the same time (7 years ago) showed 101 ppm of moly: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/toyota-tgmo-0w20-voa.270857/

I run Amsoil in all 3 different sumps. HD dealership tried to sell me Xmsn Amsoil:facepalm: for the primary GB. Went to local Amsoil dealer & got it from him.Not sure it made a difference except my piece of mind as to being new to HD when I bought it.
