Never use third party. Nightmare. Millions of stories out there on denied claims.

When we had the 2012 Honda Pilot (all shocks, sway bars and Engine Piston Replacements) and 2002 Mercury Mountaineer (New Transmission and Differentials) The Extended Factory warranty paid off.

With Toyotas just for peace of mind. With our 2018 Highlander extended warranty. Only rear shocks replaced so far

Same here, plus the moon roof. Either of those systems could well cost more than warranty did to repair. It only takes 1-2 significant repairs to break even on the warranty.

Regarding the moon roof, years ago my wife's aging Avalon moon roof developed an almost undetectable leak, which turned into minor electrical problems throughout the car for the rest of its life. That's one reason I wasn't overjoyed to have one on my 4R, although I like the extra ventilation.

I don’t believe in extended warranties because you more than likely will never need it. Take that money and put it in a savings account and use it as needed. More than 70% of extended warranties go unused. How do I know this? The company I work for sells extended warranties. Now if I owned a Dodge then maybe.

In general, I agree. There are very few things I'd pay to insure. Well actually, just two: house and vehicle.

I hear you and you (morfdq) make a good argument. But a I have used one for a major repair on a Tacoma (timing chain cover oil leak). And newer vehicles are getting more things on them which can fail with more safety and electronic systems. Additionally, labor rates keep rising and parts availability since Covid just seems to be driving up costs. For people that keep their vehicles 10 years at Jerry’s prices, it’s hard to beat the peace of mind. But to each his own.

Call your Car Insurance company and ask if they have Mechanical Breakdown Insurance. I have Geico and they offer it on newer vehicles. It is probably a fraction of the cost and will do the same thing. I have it on all of my vehicles.

Jerry's the way to go. A couple of years back, I got the 7yr/125K $0 deductible Platinum VSA on my 2021 Tacoma TRD Pro from Jennifer Taylor at Wolverine Toyota for $1,050. Wolverine has since raised their prices to $1,530 for that same plan though, so Jerry is the best price going now.

Sounds like you are leaning at around 90% of going with this warranty after reading all of your posts. For the price, Go for it.

You guys just convinced me to call Jerry and buy the Platinum warranty. I have always declined them but the new car electronics I don't trust long term trouble free. $136 annual is cheap piece of mind.

No tax for anyone buying outside of Kansas. Toyota factory warranty is only thing I would consider not any kind of 3rd party. I have heard nothing but bad feedback on 3rd party warranties.

But Florida gets their $s to support all the infrastructure and services from the residents in some form of taxes and fees on other stuff. It is just spread out over many areas so it is not as noticeable, but residents are paying in some way. It just ain’t in income tax.

Jerry is a down to Earth , straight shooter. He does no advertising. He answered my call at home yesterday and was gonna cut his grass after we talked. I got his name and number off this forum. So thanks to whoever posted it.

Yeah appears cost of living is definitely higher. It’s fun to research though definitely makes me think of getting out of MI more and more. Insurance is significantly less expensive. Definitely warrants examining closely. Like anything else there are trade offs I guess. I probably won’t have to worry about the 4R rusting as much.

I can 100% confirm that it is. I just moved out of Florida at the end of March, after being there for almost 6 years. All insurance is going up after Ian. Before Ian hit 6 major home ins companies left FL. After Ian, another 5 are in the process of moving out. Any ins company left is going to charge a lot more and that's even if they'll insure you and the area you're in. After Ian, no company would insure my friend's home.

To put that into perspective. When I moved there in 2017, my home ins policy was $1750 a year. In Feb, when I went to look at new ins, I was getting quotes from $2700-3700 a year. Car ins is also more expensive. Moving back to where I am now, my home insurance is over $1000 a year cheaper. Car insurance is a few hundred a year cheaper. It goes on and on. Granted electricity was cheaper and you have the warmer weather. After 2 hurricanes rolled over my home and caused under $100.00 in damage each time, I wasn't going to try for number 3. My neighbor got hit for over 139K in damages and I had about $85.

Not just FL. Some of the craziest swiss cheese rusted out vehicles I have seen have been in southern coast. I am lucky in Texas no rust or road salt to worry about.

But I think it is all about how close to the beach you are with wind blowing off the ocean.

Wash and wax your car normally and it's almost a non issue, compared to road salt in the northern states. I was about 2-3 miles from the west coast of Florida and had 0 rust issues. My buddy lived right on a saltwater canal and no rust issues either. Hand washed my car quarterly and waxed twice a year. Having a vehicle in the sun 24/7 will do more damage to a vehicle there. IMHO.

Just spoke with Jerry as well from Midwest Toyota, and he gave us quite a deal on both 4Runner and Tacoma... Just purchased both!

Thank you all, since earlier this year, I reached out to Ms. Jennifer, whom put me in touch with her colleague Ian, and his total quote for the same warranty on both vehicles came out to over $1200 more than Jerry's...

    FYI

A 4runner gets its great following for being reliable. An extended warranty will give your greater peace of mind and IF anything thing goes wrong its there. But if you are going to be modifying your 4runner, the dealer can void your warranty. But chances are you'll never need to use it.

I have an old fishin’ shack on Hatteras Island near Cape Hatteras for over 50 yrs. It is about 25 miles off the mainland coast. Salt water sound, Pamlico, between island and mainland. Generally strong winds always and salt water in all directions. Also we drive a lot on the beaches to surf fish and just generally enjoy the beach.

yep it matters how close you are to salt water. BUT, if you hose off the vehicle, especially the under side, you can minimize the problem. A rotating back and forth lawn sprinkler can do wonders underneath

Thanks for sharing your story and sorry for you’ve been through. I suppose it’s easy for me up north here to forget about the hurricanes. I just day dream of no snow and some sunshine. Everything has tradeoffs I guess. I can’t afford a huge house my uncle suggested renting a large trailer or I could get a small condo. Maybe renting for a month or two is the way to go. With each day I realize how precious life and health are and I want to maximize like everyone else. Good luck with your move and prayers for you and family

Depends on your state. I was on Long Island when Gloria hit in 85, then my friends and parents got slammed by Sandy in 2012. They still hit up north, but nowhere near the occurrence of Florida and the rest of the gulf states. Don't forget Florida has a lot of tornados as well.

Yeah I am in MI. We are blessed overall not too many tornados or other natural disasters. The winters are gray and snowy but not super bad.

Just enough salt and snow to cause the rust issues many of us have :). We get some ice storms too but usually that’s just power issues for a few days. It’s nothing compared to what you have been through.
