Would you like to elaborate? I've got some CE PhD friends that would love to hear your dissertation on the topic.

I have a sprint boosted but would love to do a tune. Last time I checked I would have to drive across border to USA to get it tuned. So if there is any tuner for a 4 Runner in Toronto area please let me know, I will crawl through the ridiculous traffic to get it done.

Throttle controllers do reduce the lag time, that is one of their biggest benefits. They do not increase hp, anyone who says otherwise is incorrect

Dude the whole reason throttle response units exist for sale is because they do a thing. You seem to be arguing they don’t do that thing. There’s no placebo. There is misconception by owners about what the unit is actually doing and not doing, yea.

It's funny, all I can find is marketing sheets did you have something better?

They do a thing, but it's not what people think it is. Vague marketing claims are a hell of a drug.

"Throttle response" does not mean it makes the ECU respond faster, it means that for every degree you push the pedal, you get a greater value forwarded to the ECU. Instead of sending the signal for 25% at quarter throttle, you instead get 40% or 50% or whatever it's programmed to send. It's "increased response" means you are getting more power at the same pedal angle, but there is zero difference between that and moving your foot to send that throttle angle manually.

@2016Pro That is true, but I will day the whippersnapper isn’t some kinda poser at all - we just may have small disagreements on particular things sometimes.

Right, in that you’re agreeing with essentially exactly what I just said.
Wrong, in my opinion, in how much of an expert you and your genius friends are.

The problem is that people are talking about two different lags.

    1. Lag between pedal push and message to throttle
    2. Lag between pedal push and some acceleration threshold of interest.

Any controller in a causal system (i.e. one that can be implemented without time travel) has non-zero processing time, so a controller can not get a message to the throttle any sooner than the system did without it. **

However, the characteristics of the engine are such that despite the throttle getting the message a hair later, a well-designed controller can enable reaching the acceleration threshold of interest sooner for the same pedal input across a wide range of pedal inputs.

** Note - a tricky controller could allow the unfiltered pedal message to reach the throttle undelayed and send an adjustment instants later. Under that circumstance tricky controller could tie the unmodified system for first message and for an instant system performance of the modified and unmodified systems could be the same. This version of controller would also just result in behaving like a regular gas pedal if it failed.

I’ve ran the Ultimate9 throttle controller on my last two tundras and loved it. Ordered one for the 4R last week and will be installing it this weekend

How much was it? That literally looks like the one in Amazon for $45-$50.

I recently got to drive a fifth gen with this gizmo on it. It was a 2021 model. I didn’t see what the big deal was. I’m not interested in getting one. I think it’s all smoke and mirrors. My 2022 SR5 Premium 4WD has plenty of zip for me the way I drive, old man (68) that I am. LOL.

    Two questions:
    1. Does the ECU factor in the rate of change of pedal position in determining how far/fast to open the throttle?
    2. Is the speed that the throttlebody opens controllable (and a sub-question, is it is capable of opening faster than if you slam your right foot to the floor)?

If the answer to either of those is no, then the difference CANNOT be any more than the time it takes for you to plant your right foot to the floor.

The ECU looks at a lot of factors, if it sees 0-90% throttle in 0.1s vs 0.2s and behaves differently then maybe these do something, otherwise, you get that signal there 0.1s faster and from there it is exactly the same.

I thought it had been debunked that these things can eliminate throttle lag?

The only thing they can do is make the ECU think you're pushing the throttle down faster than you actually are, giving the impression of reduced lag. The same thing can be accomplished by slamming the gas to the floor
