Before my Tundra I had an 05 GMC Extended Cab Sierra (5.3) with tow package (completely stock). I averaged 15-16 all the time. Best I ever did was on a 7 hour trip into NY @ 18.5

The Tundra, 2012 5.7 CM with tow package, 3/1 level. I average...15-16 all the time. Best I've done so far was on a 3 hour trip into CT @ 19.3

I have plenty of friends with 5.3 Chevy's/GMC's, including the newer ones with that BS cylinder shutoff crap (every single one of them hate that). They are averaging...wait for it, 15-16....lol

Moral of the story, all of the 1/2 tons are averaging within 1 or 2 MPGs of each other (V8 gas models). Obviously there are new contenders (Dodge V6 Diesel, POS EcoBoost) but they have yet to prove themselves.

I don't know what was wrong with yours but I averaged 16-19 with mine. Lifted. My friend constantly gets 19 with his 5.3.
