For every person with your sentiment there is someone else with the opposite opinion. I was a cashier/bagger at a grocery store for a couple years in high school, and I much prefer ringing things up myself. Every store I go to still has the option of having someone cashier for you as long as you generally want to wait longer.

Not at the store I was at the other day. I am ok with choice. This particular store went from an average of 10 lanes open most days, to adding self check out and only 1 staffed check out. My check out time for an average cart of stuff seemed to increase twice as much.

if you only have a few things, options increased drastically, and check out is usually quick. But I hate shopping, so I prefer to get lots of stuff to reduce my trips.

Sounds like you've found a way to beat the price increases!

Congrats! I contacted Sunnyvale a couple months after you and they told me I'd be waiting a year. Carlsbad is far closer to me (and I was equally offended by their response) but I'll need to go ~1000 miles to get the the same trim/color/price as you. Jealous but very happy that your search ended so positively!

The KDSS is incredible in the corners. I've never even driven in a vehicle with KDSS, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I'm surprised Toyota doesn't market it differently on the 4Runner platform...it's that good and I understand why it's standard equipment on the GX460 and Land Cruiser. To me, it's like the electronic sway bar disconnects on the Wrangler Rubicon, only far better on road. It is much stiffer on straight line 'bumps' than non-KDSS, however. I'm swapping out the stock suspension for Kings so that should calm that down.

I hate the push button ignition. It is a PITA. If you want to roll down the windows, you have to start the car (at least that's as far as I've got on my quest to figure it out). Since I've been driving, I've used keys that you put in the ignition. Now, you can just leave them in your pocket, or in my case, in a cup on the console that you forget every time you get out of the car. I just don't see a need for it. I'd pay good money to get it ripped out and replaced by a normal keyed ignition. To me, it's a solution in search of a problem that's been propped up by nerds at automotive publications who want "new" stuff without regard to if it's needed or not.

The black interior...meh.... I'm not a fan of black interiors, but you have no choice if you want a rear locker. Here in Arizona, those black seats reach 1000 degrees in the summer if parked outside. I wish tan was an option. If I lived elsewhere where it wasn't as hot, it'd be no big deal and I may learn to like it.

So far, I like it overall. The 4 wheel drive system and off roading prowess are awesome. I also like the amenities that the ORP gives.

Just leave your foot off the brake when hitting the button. One press is accessory and two is the same as turning the ignition on without cranking. A third push and it’s back to being off.

Thanks, it really did feel impossible at times. Keep up the search and you’ll get what you want. Walnut Creek, Salinas and Avondale Toyota in AZ are all still at sticker. Avondale seems to have more allocation than others. Good luck.

I like the self check out, I like to bag my shit more properly and I agree the wait is a lot less, especially Walmart, lots of laZys in the checkouts that would drive me nuts.

Our wait for a 2022 ORP here in PA was 51 days. We didn't "order" it but told the dealer what we were looking for and they found one similar that they rerouted. We got a moonroof we didn't want and blackout emblems that we could have purchased and installed aftermarket for less than 1/2 the price but we are still extremely happy with the 4Runner we got!

I'll chronicle my adventure here: Reached out to my "normal" dealership in Augusta, Ga looking for a 22 OR Lunar 2/9/22, basics adders to it - nothing drastic. After calling him on 2/11/22 and being told they would let me know if they get something close (zero effort by them to locate one) I decided to start talking to other dealers in South Carolina and Georgia. Found someone that seems really willing to work for me to locate and get the vehicle I am looking for. Spoke with him on 2/11/22 and on and off again through 2/22/22. Put my deposit down that day (2/22) and signed a pre-sale pricing sheet. Currently waiting for the new car manager to locate something close and propose it to me. The original cut sheet we have been working off of shows a VIN # of all XXXX with the last 6 being numbers... I am guessing that is pre-production but not sure. Their gut feel is mid to late March. I'll update as I am updated!

It's my understanding that they can't really try to locate one. Toyota gives them their allocation and that's what they get.

I think you are right. According to the dealer, the are currently contacting other dealers to attempt a trade. He said they can see who has what allocations and if they are presold or not. The second part was new to me, but I do know they have a way to see trucks that dont even have a vin yet... so they def have more flexibility for looking at inventory. I have read that they can also request an incoming vehicle, but it is no guarantee. He sounds like he knows what he is talking about, but we shall see. He has said twice that they expect the next two allocations to be large.. again - not sure how they can know that being a week from the next allocation and 3 from the following.

Sixgunz, there's a way to disconnect the KDSS system, KDSS Control Harness kit. just bought it but haven't had the time to install it. Plug and play with matching interior button.

The only problem with dealer trades, dealers are basically not willing to trade each other during these times because they do not have enough vehicles to sell.

I'm guessing if you have not been allocated a vehicle yet, it's going to be a while before you get it. My experience, I put a deposit down on a vehicle that was at port on 12/31 and didn't take delivery of it until 1/31.

I cant see why they would be hesitant as long as they get another 4runner back. Its not like it wont sell!
I only have a deposit in with one dealer right now - but calls in with 3 others. Once they get their allocations they may end up calling me. My gut feel is to stick with the current dealer as they have proposed a good deal (basically MSRP) without haggling. Is everyone basically doing the same or are people putting in multiple deposits at other dealers?

Some have multiple (refundable) deposits in with more than one dealer. Be prepared to be patient - depending on your local market and trim/color/option preferences, you could be waiting a while. I put down a deposit in early December and was the first in line for the Pro in the color I'm interested in, and still waiting for my dealer to get one allocated. Others have had shorter (and longer) waits than mine, YMMV. Good luck!

One note for anyone following this thread waiting for a 4Runner that would travel through a West Coast port - the contract for the longshoreman's union is up for negotiation in June. I believe that union covers all ports on the West Coast. Last time it was up for negotiation (2014 I think?) they went on strike for a month or more. Do your own research but there's probably risk of further delay if your 4Runner doesn't clear the port by the end of May.

That's true to an extent, but both dealerships (another story I told in another thread) I worked with were able to get the vehicle I wanted (as close as possible) routed to them via a dealer trade before it arrived to the US. So, they can't request a custom build from Toyota but it seems that there are things they can do for you if they're willing to put in a bit of effort.

Yea that's what the dealer made it seem like for me too. I suspect I wont hear anything until allocation day Wednesday. He said his new car manager can see who is getting what, then calls them to try to arrange a trade on any that are close to what I asked for. If they don't already have a buyer, I cant see any negative to this in the current market for either dealer. They may even get a 4runner they need for a presale so it could be win-win.

Right. Dealers made swaps in the "old days." No dealer is gonna give up a highly desirable vehicle today. Toyota dealers can't order specific vehicles like other manufacturer's dealers. They're given an allocation each month and they get to pick through what is available coming out of the factory in the US or from what is headed over from Japan. If there is a vehicle out there matching what you want, they snag it as part of their allocation. If it's a small dealership and gets allocated 5 4runners per month and there are 50 people looking for similar vehicles, you're out of luck.

I put a deposit down at the end of December for the local dealer to get me an allocation on lunar rock trd offroad with kdss. Then a week later I saw a dealer 80 miles away from me had a lunar rock without kdss and minimal options had one available so I called and put a deposit on that one at the end of December. Once I picked up the lunar rock without kdss at the end of January, I called the local dealership for my deposit back.

So if I were you, I’d keep looking in case something you want is available.

Yea I have resolved to do that now. The one dealer I am working with has told me two weeks ago that I would be getting a call, but nothing so far since I put down a deposit. Ill start calling again Wednesday AM to see if I can hook a recent allocation some place. anyone know what time they get the allocation list? I was close to one at a dealer about 90 miles away, but they were 1K over MSRP on a LR OR... with just a few low end options. So I held out. The one dealer I have a deposit with is about 300 over MSRP, but adding a few things that make up for it - all weather mats, tint.. So seems fair for todays market. If I could just get more info from my current dealer I might be more at ease. For instance, The car the showed me and I signed off on (nothing special - LR OR with paint protection and predator bars) had just XX for a vin and 6 digits at the end of it. Is this a future allocation for them, or just future production with no set destination? If so what date is set for production, etc. etc.

I'm waiting on a Pro. Put down two deposits in early December - first in line for my trim/color combo at both dealers. Still waiting for an allocation. Assuming one gets allocated next week I figure I'm still six weeks out from taking delivery.

Depending on your preferred trim, color, options, and flexibility towards something that doesn't totally match, you could be waiting a while.

I put down my first deposit in July, lol. First in line, never got the allocation. Put down my second deposit early December I think, should be picking that one up tomorrow.

I picked up from the dealer 2/26

I paid MSRP with about $200 in port add-ons that I didn't ask for. I'm very happy with that.
