If I remember right you have Dobinsons UCAs? What did your caster come out at on the alignment?

BDS. 3.5. I'm considering taking it back and having them bring it up to max spec.

i would try for more than that. When it’s lifted the center of gravity is higher so the extra stability at speed is nice, but increasing caster pushes the front wheel wheel slightly forward in the wheel well so you get more clearance as well, win/win.

In reality your probably closer to 4 degrees than you think, sometime you see alignment machines set up in hundredths of a degree but the vast majority of the time it’s in Degrees and Minutes of Arc. 60 Minutes is 1 degree so it go up to 59 then it rolls to the next degree (3.57 -> 3.58 -> 3.59 -> 4.00). 3.5 is only 1/6 of a degree away from being 4 but 3.5 is 1/3 of a degree from actually being 3 1/2, unless it’s setup as actual decimals, then 3.5 is 3 1/2 lol.

It kinda sucks, just standardized it across the board for everyone.

Right. I'm well aware of the physics involved, which is why I mentioned that I was thinking about trying to get more caster.

They're at 3.3° and 3.5° according to the printout I received. I'm not sure why they didn't try to get them both the same.

Spec is 2.9-3.9°, so I'm well within spec. I should have specified that I wanted to be at max spec, though.

Or, are you suggesting that I should have them go above max spec?

With a higher center of gravity and more weight than stock yes I’d recommend going a bit higher than stock, 4-4.5 range, plus it’ll give you more tire clearance.

Some platforms are a bit more prone to following road crown and drifting right than others, a lot of old timers doing alignments put a little more caster on one side vs the other to combat road crown drift. In general though readings should be equalized left to right, not just green is good because it’s in spec. Caster can be hard to equalize because unlike toe and camber you can’t adjust it off a live reading. You have to do a caster sweep to get an actual value, then any adjustment you make is off a calculated value, you make an adjustment then you have to do another caster sweep to actually check it, repeat repeat repeat. Plus there is no specific caster adjustment, camber and caster are both effected by the lower control arm cam adjustments. The auto industry sucks and time is money so it’s hard to find someone willing to truly dial it in when they are going to get paid for X amount of time no matter how fast or how slow they get it done. In the world of flat rate the name of the game is cutting as many corners as possible without the customer noticing, they’re financially rewarded for doing so.

I appreciate the insight. If I decide to go back, I'll mention that I'm willing to pay a little extra for a specific result.

I'm not noticing the truck wandering any more than previously. Overall, it feels better, as the mushy stock shocks are gone. I still wouldn't mind more caster, even if only to get the tires away from the firewall a little more. Having the truck want to track straighter will be nice as well.

I got to test out the new toys aon some trails in northern Wisconsin this weekend. So far, it's fantastic!

This picture is actually from the driveway to my campsite. It's pretty washed out. I had to use 4wd to get out this morning:D

We went to visit the GF's parents this weekend and I talked her into checking out the Pipeline with me on Saturday. Our Boston Terrier, Myles, struck a pose on Bro Rock.

    20200613_132037_HDR.jpg

We checked out some sections that I haven't been to since I had the Tacoma. I even went through some sloppy mud!

The 4runner continues to impress me every time I take it off road. The balance of rugged capability and comfort is sooooo nice!

Have you thought about wheel spacers? I have always added them after lifting, if you go up, you gotta go out. and they make the tires look even bigger and it may help the rubbing.

They rub on the outside of the tire. Stock wheels are +19 offset, and my wheels are -6, so I'm out an inch from stock already. I believe I can heat up the mud-flaps and push them back to fix this

Just looking for thoughts and won't hold you to it! I went with the FN pro rims that have 0mm offset and 4.5" backspace. Think theres a chance I'll be able to keep the flaps with the same tires you have? I really want 285s but don't want to give up mud flaps
Also do the Rokblocs come without the white logo on the backside? thanks

Sorry I missed this part of the question. Mine are black on black. There are a few options with the logo.

It looks like I get to buy a new windshield. o_O

An oncoming truck kicked up a small rock and chipped and cracked it. The crack is growing pretty quick, so I'll probably get it done this week. :angrygirl:

Yep! I need to find a windshield hook-up. Based on some posts on the windshield thread here, the OEM glass is prone to breaking easily. I might go aftermarket if the price is better.

It's pretty common on the 4Rs, Tacomas and FJs. Big ass vertical barn door glass. I've got a glass place that I'd recommend, but it's in Verona. Long way to go for you

That does make sense. I know a guy who used to do glass, but doesn't anymore. I'll check if he has any buddies who can get me a deal. I'll also call a few places.

I suppose the fuel and time to go to Verona would negate any savings, unless it was a significant amount.

I'll let you know what I hear from the guys in the little red trucks, and their competition.:D
