    Mall crawling kit.
This is because the engine is turbocharged. It will ping on regular, especially on a hot day or under load.

If you don't put in premium fuel when the car requires it, it would be an easy for the dealer to deny power-train warranty.

It's the same engine that's used in the new Tacoma and 4Runner, which require 87. It's certainly possible that the ECU has been tuned differently on both models. But, the requirement isn't due to the turbo.

OP, I wanna say congratulations, but you traded in a perfectly good SR5P!

I only say this because the 5th gen the last of its kind and the LC250 is in its first year. We're seeing what's happening to the Tundra so I would've waited at least to 2nd/3rd year production models. Also, the premium fuel, that's gonna be serious $$$... and also only way you'll get the 27 MPG is if you keep it completely stock with highway tires and drive like a grandma, I could be wrong.

I do like the LC250 and Ahmed approves of it and I do too, but for the price, premium fuel, and unproven reliability I would've kept the 5th gen. Obviously not my money so if it makes you happy then kudos to you!

    Just my $0.02

Idk why everyone is so hung up on premium. I use premium in my 5th gen (the 1gr-fe previously required it) and it drives significantly better at elevation than on regular. The price difference is marginal

How does the back seat space compare to the 4Runner?

Back seat leg room is quite smaller. Here I am sitting in the middle and there is no way I can prop/sit my feet in the center portion. Being a middle passenger, unless a tiny child, would be miserable. It is pretty much a four seater. The back seats do recline. Cargo area is quite a bit bigger and roomier compared to the 5th gen.

As for the weight advisory for the rear cargo area - I think that applies to the smaller pieces instead of the main area covering the battery. The main area feels a lot sturdier, whereas the other pieces, a child could easily bend/break them. Attached are a few pics of the cargo are with the panel pieces and their flimsy plastic hooking mechanism.

Congratulations. I had a ‘01 black 4WD for almost 18 years prior to my current 6 year old black pro.
Get it ceramic coated and it will stay nice for a long time. I like black because it never looks dated, has depth and is super when clean.

Spent x amount of $ to achieve “higher” mpg. So it’s not an objective goal.
It’s all good.. car buying is highly emotional.

just that when people attempt to rationalize it via objective goals, it needs to be called out as emotional reasons.

will keep an eye on how these LC 250s fare, over the next several months. The new Toyota models all with egregious issues is not providing confidence.

Congrats on the purchase. I love the material of the cloth seats. But to be completely honest, that rear cargo setup is a HUGE no for me, terrible. So delicate, a sticker saying how everything can break, super high cargo, hard to sit on the edge of the cargo comfortably, etc.

    Long live 5th Gen 4Runner!

When has the 1GR ever required premium?

Edit: it looks like possibly in other markets it was tuned for premium. But, our ECU is tuned for 87.

I realize that the compression ratio is high enough to utilize it, but I don't know how much the engine can benefit from it with our ECU not being tuned for it.

The price difference also varies a lot by region.

Personally, I figure switching to premium would cost me over $1K/yr, so I'd really prefer not to use it. I drive a lot, and the price difference in Wisconsin is ridiculous.

The 250 is pretty appealing to me, otherwise. I don't know if I'd trade my '19 for one. But, if I were in the market now, it would definitely be in the running, since I don't really think I like the 6th gen that much.

Premium averages about $0.75 gal more in the Denver area. I tried to figure out what kind of mileage one would need to get to offset that increase, but I think I broke my brain...

It's $0.80- $0.90 around here. But, I thought I saw where it was only around $0.15 in some areas in another thread. If that was typical here, it wouldn't be much of a consideration at all for me.

    The $ savings are trivial.

You definitely loose out when factoring in the cost to purchase and other related fees.

    That's a handy calculator.

It doesn't help when the more fuel efficient vehicle requires more expensive fuel.

I just checked, and it looks like it's almost a wash for me based on current local prices and EPA estimates.

If prices were closer, the savings could be decent. But, that's assuming you're buying a new vehicle either way.

WTF. Why is the back seat space designed to be so cramped? I’m assuming the front seat is set up for you at 5’-9” tall too? Tiny sedans have more legroom than that.

My old '04 JGC used to recommend premium. Wasn't that big of an issue because between 87/89/91 used to be base/+0.10/+.020 a gallon when I had it. Wife used to put regular in by mistake all the time and I put diesel in it once by mistake (I was young, long story) and it survived to 215k before I traded it in and feel it would have gone 300k easy.

But, today's prices for fuel have gone bonkers. 87 to 89 is sometimes $1 increase and 89 to 91 is up to $1 more - not sure what happened to refineries in the past 10 years but if you drive a lot it's a SIGNIFICANT difference on yearly calculations

Did it recommend or require premium? There's a difference in running regular in a vehicle that recommends premium VS one that requires it.

I don't know why it's so different from one area to another. As stated earlier, there was a thread where someone mentioned that premium was only $0.15 more than regular in their area, while it's 80-90 cents here. :notsure:

Good question, had to look it up because I couldn't remember. Looks like it was recommended (for best performance) but not required.

Congrats on the purchase. It's funny because I just texted my Toyota dealer this morning before seeing your thread to find out if any LC's had landed yet. I love my 4runner, but I am very very curious to see and drive one of these. Wish it didn't need premium, but I assume the added MPG's will pretty much make it a wash. With the high price being paid for 5th gens right now, I think it's worth seeing what it would cost me out of pocket.

Now one thing I have to say, and please, take this lightly... For a pro photographer, I would love to see some BETTER PHOTOS than what you provided.

Dealers are looking for 5th gens, especially those with under 80k miles. My 2016 had 50k on it, so I got a great deal for it (for a trade-in) though I could have probably gotten more had I sold it myself.

I was waiting for someone to mention the quality of photos hahaha - I think they are trash as well (with zero editing). I used an older camera that I take with me everywhere. Once I get my new tires on (tomorrow) then Ill post some better picturesque poser photos with my nice, full-frame camera using a flash as well

Is there a sister land cruiser forum to this one, like they have for tacomas? I did a quick googly and visited one site but it didn't look like this one.

I'm sure there will continue to be threads on this site but would just like to start following in case the JGC needs to be replaced in the nearish future

For those concerned with fuel costs and what not. Here are the prices for fuel (Denver area) and cost for filling up a 1/3 of a tank
