Yeah, exactly. I have no idea how it's all going to work out. I hope that Toyota resolves any issues and following years are solid. I have no need to buy anything new at the moment, so, it's really just my GAS that makes me want the new shiny thing!

I don't disagree. They just don't have the best overall reputation.

I constantly hear good things about that engine. And, I certainly don't know enough to have a strong opinion.

Yeah, a friend had a Starlet once. Put a crazy amount of miles on it. 400k or so I believe.

I think the K series 4 bangers were pretty hearty. I think some folks just modified them rather than swapping engines for drag racing.

If you have the money for the 6th gen, then you have the money for the LC250. And if you have the money for the LC250, then you have the money for the GX550. Get the GX, simple!

That's a pretty much standard price for 5th gen ORP. 6th gen will way be much higher

Look into Grenadier as well folks. Lift, 35s, disconnect and you got yourself a beefed up 80 series

Lol! If you have $50K, obviously you have $65K. o_O

Edit: I can definitely see a lot of folks who are looking at the higher trims cross shopping, though.

What's the MSRP for a '25 ORP? I haven't seen pricing yet. I can't imagine them being able to go too high due to the LC starting under $60K, and GX starting at $65K.

Maybe the shitty market will screw up their pricing, too. :notsure:

Plus, the fact that it seems like the 250 isn't exactly flying off the shelves like they probably expected.

Also, saw this in a deleted post:

"It will be some time before the LC250 can be had for under 60k."

Not sure where people are shopping, but there are plenty in my area under $60K.

Some even listed below MSRP. That's not a great sign for Toyota. Good for potential buyers, though...

I am a huge fanboy but yeah this makes me nervous. I really hope these are just pains from new architecture that will go away in a year or two.
Toyota built their reputation on quality. That is how they compete. I hope they are not looking at short term gains for long term pain by messing with quality.

My guess is there will be a shakeup in the lineup once the next 4Runner is released at scale. I almost bought the GX when I was buying the 21 TRD ORP, but the GX had that ugly grill. If the price of the 6th gen goes up significantly, the GX550 becomes a really attractive alternative. I have the vibe that the LC250 series will be cut down to one model, and then will disappear from the market after a year or two.

That makes for a very confusing strategy on part of Toyota.
I do however agree that Toyota has made its lineup ripe for consolidation. I however tend to think that it would be the 6th gen that goes away. There is no way for both 6th gen and LC to compete within same Toyota lineup. Something has to give. In my mind there was no reason to introduce LC if they meant to just not offer it in NA. I do not know how many units of each trim levels Toyota sells. If its more of the costlier trims that have similar price point as the LC, what I say makes sense. If not, maybe its just my conspiracy theory.

I don't know why it's that hard to understand. It makes perfect sense from a business perspective.

    6th gen 4runner: starts at 45k
    Land Cruiser: starts at 55k
    Lexus GX: starts at 65k

Will there be overlap with upper and lower trims? Yes, but that's exactly what Toyota wants. They want you to look at the 6th gen Offroad trim for 50-55k and think to yourself "I could just get a Land Cruiser for that." Then when you go look at the Land Cruiser, you think "I need to spend 60-65k just to get the features I want in this one."

All the sudden you went from spending $55k to spending $65k. You just got upsold.

The cynical PoV I had, when 6th gen came out, was they deliberately made it less attractive so it can be phased out. Maybe I was just mad at them because in my mind, looks wise they went in the wrong direction.
I predict Sequoia, Highlander and 4Runner gets cannibalized by other Toyota models. The lineup trims down in a few years. My crystal ball is 50% right, of course :p

It wouldn't make sense from a business perspective to put time and money into developing a new model just to get rid of it.

Certain models, like the Sequoia, have always been low volume vehicles and Toyota is fine with that. I don't think it's going anywhere.

The Highlander is a high volume mid-sized SUV. That's bread and butter in the US car market right now. It's not going anywhere.

The 4Runner is a BOF niche vehicle that has grown in popularity over the years. Sales volume is middle of the road so Toyota is looking to capitalize on that growth by introducing a more affordable Land Cruiser. There will be plenty of people out there willing to buy either.

    It's a smart business move.

1958 and LC trims make no sense.. difference of like what a few thousands?

there is nothing good about 1958. The “simplicity” you get are all superficial. Like what robustness do you achieve with manual seats and manual tailgate? lol what a farce

You actually gain some reliability by forgoing those things… in non-Japanese cars. I have had several European cars with power seats that quit working and same for electronically operated tailgates/trunk but to your point, in a Toyota, not much to gain. 1958 trim is just a great commercial move by Toyota to cash in on Landcruiser as a legendary name plate and have people thanking them for the “bargain” near $60k manual adjustment, cloth seat, base suspension/tires/wheels/hard plastics car.

It's not hard to understand, I'm just projecting how that plan will go sideways once it fully hits the market. "No plan survives contact with the enemy." Substitute "market" for "enemy".

I'm interested in any/all of them (4R, LC, GX). It does seem like everyone has a clear preference and maybe one that they dislike (the GX kind of pisses me off and reminds me of a 4R Limited...an expensive street truck); they all have pretty strong emotional appeal. As far as Toyota consolidating them, they are all on the same platform (right?) so to a large degree they are already consolidated. Customers consider them very different but they already share a lot and are happy to be manufactured together. Seems like Toyota kinda knocked it out of the park in terms of leveraging a new platform across multiple products.

I saw a GX550 on the lot at a nearby Lexus dealer today. Not so much on the lot as on an outdoor pedestal so that it could be clearly seen from the highway. At first I thought it was an LC250.

Disappearing of the LC250 will not be a big surprise. Toyota just did it to Venza.

The LC250 is now just a retro skinned 4Runner in the lineup. In the past that was never the case and they were totally distinct platforms even if some people are likely to bring up the previous generation Prado to counter that. Fact is the majority of internal switchgear and lots of other hardware internally will be shared in a way that’s a break from the past. Also, only offering the Prado in the USA as a GX Lexus with V8 made it quite different too whereas it’s a safe bet that the hybrid trims of the 4Runner and LC250 will mostly overlap in terms of pricing and entirely with drivetrain. Do you want a more modern aesthetic take and lower slung BOF SUV or one that’s more boxy and retro in style? Take your pick of the TNGA platform mates. In that sense, this isn’t really as much of a mid tier vs upper tier SUV stratification in the lineup with two very different build specs, sizes and hardware like before. Previously one might have aspired to potentially trade up to a Landcruiser from a 4Runner some day knowing they were literally twice the cost and a very different car and build spec. Now, a 1958 LC250 is gonna be less expensive and far worse equipped than a TRD Pro or Trailhunter 4Runner and meaningfully less expensive.

Wife just bought a 2024 ORP. I added a 100 series Land Cruiser. The 24 year old Land Cruiser is equally as nice as the 4runner but with a little less tech.

    Oooh look, another mod.....
Correction, Toyota did it to the Venza again. They've killed that vehicle twice!

I was at my local dealership this past Saturday and saw the new LC in person. I did like how it looked. But me and a few guys who were checking it out all said the same thing: "It LOOKs like a stretched FJ40! Why didn't they bring that back instead?"

The 1958 has ghetto plastics and poor equipment. Those caveats would be considered interesting in the context of an old school approach like a 70 series.
Instead that subpar packaging is presented in a modern vehicle, where you are able to contrast against the LC and FE trims, and the 1958 simply doesn’t cut it
