I misinterpreted what you meant. Sorry about that.

I don't really think it's that bad, personally. You can get a Ram with 1000 lb/ft of torque and still be slower than a 5th Gen 4Runner.

OK, if that's true it's really sad. Which division?

I'm serious. I know it's not the TRD division, because that's been around longer than YouTube.

The joke is "TRD Jon" is his real name, and Toyota named the TRD division after him.

It's like that old commercial "The Texas chili company, chili so good they named a STATE after it!"

I didn't realize it was a joke. With all of the stupid marketing BS I see, I wouldn't be surprised by anything anymore. :notsure:

Getting back to the LC trouble link, I think testing for metal shavings in the oil would be the first diagnostic test before a complete engine tear down. If other LCs exhibit similar traits, test the oil. $0.02.

“The engineer removed fuel from each cylinder to locate which cylinder the noise was coming from. When removing fuel from cylinder 1 the noise went away. This lead to a total tear down of the engine (in pictures). The engineer is thinking bad universal bearing in the block. There were metal shavings in the oil as well. They are waiting for Toyota corporate to send someone out to verify the findings.”

Awesome! I really hope it ends up being an isolated issue. After the Tundra recall, I'm nervous about Toyota's QC right now.

Sounds like Toyota jumped the gun on it so we should be in the clear.
Also, this engine isn’t new it’s been around for almost 4 years now

7.5 seconds to 60 is simply fast enough for me. What's the hurry? What will it help me to get there in 5.5 seconds?

    Some people just accept facts.

Feels fast is slow = is slow; feels slow is fast = fast; feels fast is fast = fast; feels slow is slow = is slow.

I mean it’s clearly fast enough for me as well since I own one despite it being slow. The difference being I can admit it’s not a quick car by any means and that’s okay.

Quick is relative. It's the fastest vehicle I've owned. If I want something truly fast, I'll get something.

I had a 1987 2WD Tercel Wagon once. Ugly brown. I always thought it would be hilarious to drop a quiet 300+HP V8 into it while leaving it as stock-looking as possible, then challenge Corvettes at stoplights. Now THERE is a good use for a fast car. But as a DD? I don't care about that.

I accept facts. I also accept that trucks don't need to be fast. And, I realize that some of the best trucks are actually pretty slow.

I've also driven vehicles that were actually slow. Try it sometime!

A Tercel wagon would be a fun sleeper. My ultimate would have been a KP61 Starlet with a 152E (~300 hp 4 cylinder based on the 18R-G). The Starlet is RWD and well under 2000#.

Probably quite a bit. No name brand with a Bimmer drivetrain..

B58 had some first year issues (sound familiar?), but has proven to be reliable over the past 7 years. Note, this engine is understood to be overbuilt by BMW, as it powers a number of vehicles of varying power output. Given that the Grenadier uses a fairly low power version, I'd expect it to be fine.

Not worried about the BMW engine and ZF trans. The B58/ZF combo is more tried and true than the twin turbo V6 in the Tundra.

We don't know anything about that here... o_O

Actually, I bet a lot of people are hoping that's what we're seeing. It doesn't help much that pretty much every BOF Toyota is on a new(er) frame with a new(er) drivetrain. Hopefully they get it squared away, but I don't blame anyone for holding off on a purchase or looking elsewhere right now.
