Good news today. There were 2 SO coming in at my dealer. My salesman called me today and said if I want this one that came in. The guy backed out so it’s up to me if I want this one or wait for the next one. Looks like I might take this one incase mine don’t come in for September.

Update also it has the older wheels. Not sure yet if I will try and have them do something when I’m there or just stay with the older wheel.

I’m betting a dealer can’t even order (or backorder) the “new style” black TRD wheel as apparently there is a supplier shortage, which is why Toyota itself is going back to the older design.

I wouldn’t let that hold me up. While I do like the new design better, you can’t really tell a difference unless you are within 10 feet of the rig. So many people ultimately swap wheels anyway, that I wouldn’t think twice about pulling the trigger on one if it were on the showroom floor, as opposed to waiting for a Pro that has been allocated, but may or may not have the newer wheel design (and may not show up anyway).

Yeah I agree I’m not letting that stop me from buying it. My last 2 Pros had SCS wheels on them. Not sure if I will change the wheels this time. Yeah I’m getting it this week. Not taking the chance when mine was supposed to arrive. Since the other buyer backed out.

Stopped at the dealer yesterday to confirm the vehicle was all good. Picking it up tomorrow. Wrapping the front with protective shield to drive home. It will sit in the garage for about 3 weeks till it goes to the detail place doing the wrap. IMG_4562.jpg

It’s home! Boy soon as I drove it home I new it was the right decision going back to the 4runner and giving up my tundra. I’m not knocking the tundra pro in any way. But it’s just fits me so much better size wise and seat wise. IMG_4566.jpg

Ok so while it sits in the garage for about 3 weeks till it can get done. It’s a tough decision deciding if I will do the same mods i did on my 20 AG Pro. Never a fan of the roof rack. I have my black rails yet from my other Pro. Plus the delete kit. Still up in the air side steps or sliders and westcott lift and wheels. This time it might take a while before those mods again. Want to drive it for a while before anything I do.

Placed my deposit for mine (MSRP dealer) May 2022 (yes, 16 months ago lol). First on the allocation list for a solar octane preference.......still waiting :( got offered a few in other colors but I'm all in on SO. I'm super patient but pics in this thread of your awesome rides are testing me.

Good news is they finally got a SO allocation in June, it arrived at port in July, and update today was it is on freight but no ETA for arrival in Boston.

Still have my '01 3rd gen, plan to keep this one 20+ years, so know it will be worth the wait lol can't wait for it to arrive.

Oh......and even though it's still not here, already ordered/received some FN Overlandsr Spec B wheels for it. Plan to put some K02s + OEM TRD machined center caps and capture some FJ Cruiser vibes!

I respect your patience but after waiting 3 weeks for an allocation I bought mine used with 1700 miles on it out-of-state. I really wanted this Solar Octane. I paid a couple grand over MSRP and I still have no regrets!!

Went with the metallic gray ones. Ignore the center cap, added some red TRD decals to the FN one because the OEM FJ machined ones are currently out of stock but will replace when I can grab a set.

Haha I get it. Don't blame you but I personally hate what these dealers are doing with markups. Refused to pay over sticker for my Type R, same with this one, equally out of principle as much as the extra cash.

Post a pic of yours with the wheels mounted when you get your rig.

I’m still trying to decide what to go with.

Seems like all the solar octane 4Runners I’m seeing guys are digging the grey wheels.

Will do. Gonna do it this year if the runner comes in time before the winter (these are gonna be my good weather set). Or else, will have to wait until the Spring.

Wonder if any other Solar Octanes are running them with K02s + white letters out? I knew that's what I wanted ever since I saw an FJ but you never know how it translates lol

That’s the color (gunmetal gray) I have on mine now, but would like a wider stance than the factory TRD wheels provide.

I haven’t seen many other pics of aftermarket wheels on a SO online. Do you happen to have any pics of other SO rigs with that color of wheel?

Oh cool. I don't.....I've just been dead set on getting the OEM FJ fake beadlock wheel + white letter K02 setup on my own 5th gen one day. When I realized that 16" wheel won't work, I was super excited to see FN make a 17" replica of it with a slightly wider width/offset.

Really betting on it turning out as cool as I imagine.....but we'll see.

I have no pics with the grey wheels except the one I seen from westcott done with SCS wheels. All of my Toyota’s over the years had SCS wheels. I prefer them because of the 8.5 inch wheel and the stock size tire on the pro fits well. If I do another set just not sure which style I want this time.

Curious as to what made you pick the high gloss gunmetal finish with the alloy ring over the matte gunmetal finish with the black ring?

I think they both look great, and I’m toying with those wheels also (although I’m still leaning towards the SCS wheels if they would ever get them back in stock).

Just wondering whether the black ring would look better than the polished ring on a vehicle with almost exclusively black accents? Honestly, I wish I could mix and match… the gloss gunmetal finished with the black ring.

I can get a bit geeky with wheel selection. While I'm not into crazy mods anymore, the little things/details really make my day lol

For one, I wanted as close a match to the OEM TRD fake beadlock wheels ever since I saw them. While I dislike the later 17" Rock Warrior design Toyota made, that 16" TRD beadlock wheel in gray with the machined lip + center cap looks amazing to me with some BF Goodrich K02s. Similar to this:
    84817-new-beadlock-trd-wheels-image_8cedcf938eb21c49b58b81a9e4a582a0c735d8ab.jpg

While many of the accents on the TRD Pro are blacked out, there are some subtle light accents to complement the machined lip, center caps, lug nuts, and white letters (mirror side marker light, clear tail lights). I do like all the black accents but feel the black lip blends too much with the black tire so prefer the machine contrast on the outside.

But I personally don't like the all black matte look on wheels/tires to begin with......too much of one dark color with nothing to break it up imo. Have done it before on my Jeep ~15 years ago but also feel it's way too common/overdone now. Gloss gunmetal should catch the eye better than matte.

Even on my Type R, while the original black wheel with the red pinstripe looks decent imo, I fell in love with the optional gunmetal wheels off the new NSX. Some people said it wouldn't match as good because of the black accents all over the car but I like how the color is subtle but still sticks out a bit. Since they were a direct OEM bolt on, I sourced a set, had the OEM Honda center cap color matched, and paired them with titanium lugs to break up the gray/match the rotor:
    IMG_20210620_145114.jpg

Think this FN gunmetal with machined ring/center cap setup is gonna pop on the solar octane but you never know until it's on there. Will definitely post when I can source some OEM machined TRD center caps and get the set on......when I FINALLY get the car!

IMG_5290.jpg IMG_3206.jpg IMG_3236.jpg IMG_3237.jpg I agree with you, and maybe it’s a product of age, but I’ve never been a fan of black wheels on almost almost anything unless there are some appropriate bright accents, either on the wheel itself or if the vehicle was perfectly suited to the black wheel (i.e. - a bright red vehicle with black wheels and only black accents everywhere else).

The gloss gunmetal wheel looks wheel good on the solar octane in my opinion, but I would be interested to see how a matte gunmetal wheel looks, given that the solar octane color pops so much in person.

I can tell you that a flat (matte) gray, and/or titanium (as ICON calls them) does not look as good with the solar octane in my opinion. Attached are some of pics including an ICON wheel in titanium (poser pic without tire mounted), a factory TRD Off-Road wheel, and a 40th anniversary wheel. The bronze 40th anniversary wheels look surprisingly good with solar octane in my opinion. Not sure that I personally would leave them on there, but I think a guy could pull it off.

Totally agree, not digging the matte gray. Maybe because the solar octane is so bright and shiny that the matte gray wheel just look......dirty to me?

I originally thought I'd go the bronze anniversary wheel route. Even made sure the dealer would sell me a set if I wanted them. But changed my mind when I saw the FN wheels, as the original FJ TRD wheel is one of my all time favorites.

But I have to say, while a bit loud with all the colors, the bronze anniversary wheel on solar octane is a pretty cool combo. I still dig it.

Made a move today with my tire shop. My tire owner taking these Nitto’s off my hands and giving me a credit towards the Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T tire. He said I can take a look at them next week and decide if I want them. The reviews are good on these. I want a more aggressive tire and my last 2 sets were Nitto Grappler on my tundra and 4Runner. Want something different. Deciding if I want to pull the trigger on SCS wheels or wait.
