Toyota says it. Look no further than their Limited models.

Chrome grill, chrome on the bumber, chrome handles, chrome badging plate on the rear. Definitely not targeted at the outdoor offroad types with this package. Lol

So far with what 'teaser' photos being posted I see efforts made to change a good deal of the 'soft' lines
Grew up with chrome this, chrome that...I'm over it.

I'm on the fence to get a 24 Pro or a gth Gen. I'll wait till April 9th to see what it fully looks like and the specs. But even if I like it I still might get a 24. Mostly because dealers will mark up the 6th Gen even more so. And not sure how available it will be. Plus 1st year of a generation worries me some.

My hope is that they’re listening to criticisms on the I4. And that they don’t screw up the 4Runner - a very successful truck for them. So far they seem to be playing it safe. We’ll find out April 9th.

When the 4-banger + turbos is confirmed, people probably going to snatch up the remaining V6 4Runners in a hurry.

Imagine getting one of the very last V6 4Runners to ever roll off the factory line. Delicious.

This 4.0 is 21 years old, they're going to take it out back and put it out of it's misery (at least in the US).

If the LC250 didn't get the 6, why would you think the 4Runner would?

Also, why even update the 4Runner if you're not going to modernize the powertrain? If they touch it, they have to improve the emissions, I'm sure.

Why would you assume I haven’t driven one? But also, I read reviews and hear from people who own one. So? Your point?

It's definitely because of the shared interior with the Tacoma, which already has debuted. They're not gonna change course for the 4Runner, if the goal was cost consolidation. Some guys have said the 4Runner was designed first, but the delays made the Tacoma come out first instead?

Got no idea why that's even a shock to you...writing was on the wall.

4Runner was as good as dead future-wise years back and Toyota had to find a way justify it, likely by sharing as much as possible with the redesigned Tacoma and 250-Series to a lesser degree. Ditto for the Sequoia with the Tundra, which was even a worse situation due to weak sales in the 2010s.

I don't see the point of anyone complaining, other than maybe disliking the Tacoma's interior. The current 5th gen interior I don't even like compared to the 4th gen 4Runner. This works for me, in liking the new Tacoma from personal experience.

Yeah, that's one thing I love about the 5th gen. Sucks that it's gone.
Wild how accurate how some of those early insider rumors were about the 6th design being heavily based on the 5th gen. It's why some of us never understood the hype for some convertible Wranglerlike makeover. Never had expectations for removable top, but hoped on the "Land Cruiser".:rolleyes:Prado is unnecessary, but oh well.
Why would a discontinued high selling model in the 5th gen be a slow seller?

Either way the 5th gen will sell strongly at the end. Loss of V6 and other stuff (manual transfer case, etc) on one end once this debuts. On the other end if discontinued altogether, a buying frenzy ensues (like the 200-Series).

    You wouldn't benefit either way.

I don't even know why this has to be even said, over and over. I get it's not yet official, but it feels like dudes everywhere plug their ears and pretend as if recent developments have not been happening...

1GR-FE is dead in the "Eurosphere" and its diaspora. Toyota having not developed a new DF NA V6, the turbo T24 replaces GR V6s. Or NA hybrid 2.5 A25. I think only PHEV is the rare exception for any GRs being kept.

Maybe we'll get the TTV6 in here, if the X-Runner Tacoma comes out? Maybe even the Land Cruiser 250 gets a special halo trim later (like the Bronco Raptor) and has the TTV6. There's been rumors on that...

The 2024 Tacoma already looked like an amalgamation of 3rd gen Taco, 5th gen 4R, and 3rd gen Tundra. Makes plenty of sense for the 4R. That's the face (already mentioned).

Insider info from years ago has finally been made official for everyone (skeptical). 6th gen remained true to the 5th gen design, just as was said for years. Evolutionary, just like many other TNGA redesigns. Only the Tundra, Sequoia, Prado, and GX were huge leaps in design. The 300-Series looks very similar to the 200, as does this to current gen.

For them to be building this in Japan still is a head scratcher, when way too much is shared with the Mexican built Tacoma. Guess that's the remaining buying card, Japan crafted.

Looks just fine, different strokes for different folks. Comment feels like a deja vu cliche...

I don't get the skepticism. Everything he says is dead accurate. I think I've figured out who his source in Plano is too and that dude speaks the truth from what I know. While the reveal date not being May is confusing, he's spot on otherwise.

I can easily disprove what you stated, being that there was a break in consistency of updates between the OG 5th gen 4R and 2nd-3rd gen Taco. The shared lineage was broken and the two nameplates looked entirely different for once.

Before that happened, Toyota literally based the 2nd gen Taco design on the 4th gen 4R, coming out 2 years apart, but sourced different components and altered the shared J120 Prado platform frame basis from being fully boxed.

I heard too from a notable expert, that the 3rd gen 4R was developed off of the 1st gen Tacoma, but deviated mechanically by using parts which would make its way to the Prado 90. The interior of the 3rd gen is a dead ringer for the 1st gen Taco. The styling was extremely similar, on purpose.

There's always been a connection between the two, but because Toyota didn't redesign the 3rd generation Tacoma parallel to the 5th gen, things went off course. Now they're united again and it saves big money. Goal achieved and most of everyone is happy.

Unlike most people here, I'm pretty familiar with the new Tacoma and its 2.4. Other than justifiable concerns about future reliability issues, the other complaints are becoming childish. 1GR owners I can understand being uncomfortable, because they had a global engine expected to perform extremely well in all conditions in durability and reliability. Ditto for the old 2.7.

The whiny ass Taco owners of the 3rd gen, forget all too easily how they essentially have a one-off 3.5 not used outside of North America in a light (body~frame) truck. The 2GR in Taco was maladapted for that configuration, yet they act like they have something bulletproof against the 1GR.

This right here, times infinity. I don't understand their reasoning whatsoever. At best hope for a low volume halo edition down the road.

I don’t think the Tacoma and 4Runner ever shared as much as they are about to. I’d expect…

At most, something like the GX vs new LC with different front-ends

In the middle, how Honda’s Pilot/Passport/Ridgeline styling has stayed along the same lines with some variation pre-facelift.

    upload_2024-4-4_17-58-26.jpg

And in the “they probably gonna look the same” camp I’d probably look at the mid/late-00’s Frontier/Xterra/Pathfinder trio for inspiration. (albeit like above facelifts mixed things up)

Too much quoting and reading , are you disagreeing with me and saying the 4 runner will have a v6? If that's the case not a chance , it will definitely be the same engine as the Tacoma. I seem to remember another guy last year trying to tell people the 3rd gen Tacoma was going to have a carry over with the 3rd gen V6 ....yeah that didn't happen.

Ahhhh, you probably missed the point about the rear window on the 6th gen, nobody was talking about the 5th gen.

That is not tough. Those door handles obviously say that a soccer mom drive it to the grocery store only.

This site has clearly stated that you really can’t ever go off-road unless you freshly apply plasti dip to any and all chrome. Hell I am thinking that it’s more important than tires, lift, locking diff etc. it has to be the same as racing stripes adding 20 HP to a sports car.

The 4.0L Toyota V6 is a work of engineering excellence. There will always be one in my stable, that I hope to still be rocking 20-years down the road!

Before soccer moms were a thing, we had muscle cars, chrome was mandatory, and they were much more capable.

If it's the same interior as the Tacoma, it's just an assumption because of that

Uh, total opposite? Not what I said. I was co-signing your comment (if not all of em), as they're all on point. Like you mentioned, why is anyone expecting they keep the 1GR V6? It doesn't make sense at this point and everyone should all somewhat be on the same page this close to reveal.

That ridiculous theory never made sense tbh, as it had been heard many years ago from another dude about both the Tundra and Tacoma getting a 2.4 turbo and 3.5L twin turbo, like in 2018-19. Think he did engine performance mods on 3rd gens, then got banned from the Tacoma forum because of pissed customers lol. I meant, if Toyota makes the Xrunner Taco, maybe they'll make a special hi po 4Runner or Land Cruiser 250 with the turbo V6 in limited production?

Longshot, but someone suggested not to lose hope for that option down the road.
