    Sighs...

I don't see why anyone thinks 300 Series is special in terms of any other Land Cruiser. It's simply largest Land Cruiser model.

I don't want to hear about anyone complaining as to why the large flagship wagon is no longer offered in North America.

Many individuals sat down and badgered the vehicle during both 100 and 200 Series generations as "outdated" & overpriced over a 20+ year period, some even daring to express "a Tahoe's just as good".

Anything Land Cruiser is generally built to very high standards. Expecting a next generation 300 Series in USA was always a fool's game, once the rumor came out that was being discontinued and then later brought back mid decade. I never expected a 300, but I did expect a Land Cruiser product.

The Prado was originally developed to rival the discontinued Mitsu Montero (Pajero), because Toyota didn't feel the 4Runner/Hilux Surf met that standard well enough. They needed something which was a more downscaled 80-Series and more civilized 70-Series. The second generation 1996 Prado also literally copied the 2nd gen '91 Pajero/Montero and the chief engineer himself admitted it.

Now the Montero is gone, Prado owns the market segment. The fullsize Land Cruiser is 100% unnecessary in USA, since the LX at Lexus is more suitable.

Many people were not prepared to step up and pay the price for a full sized Land Cruiser, yet keep criticizing the cheaper new model, like Toyota is supposed to instead offer a 300 series for the same price instead? Never gonna happen.

That being said, this thread is about the next generation 4Runner is it?

Definitely expected something at the end of March or early April, after nothing happened in January/Feb. Good to see how similar reveal will be to the Tacoma.

Holy fuck! Are we really having another "true Landcruiser " debate. FFS!

What kind of oil should one put in a "true" Land Cruiser?

Get off the Koolaid and get a passport yourself. All the locals refer to either model as "Land Cruiser". Only an outsider like you hang on to the Prado badge.

^Raptor lights on those Pro models aren't decoration. They're clearance lights to be road legal.

I finally saw (or noticed) a new one last weekend in Tarpon Springs, Florida. I thought it looked nice.

The badge isn’t looking good. The rest looks fine. There’s still a real bumper, tow hitch and spare.

What I find interesting is that they didn’t show the top of the car. What if it’s a bronco and wrangler fighter? Roll cage? Removable top and doors?

Now that the LC has taken on the more conservative body on frame 4Runner sized vehicle?

That’s all well and good but how often do you change oil in that “true” Landcruiser? I say every 1000 miles else you blow your engine after 20K miles.

Actually, not true. I am from a country that got both the LC and the LC Prado. The terms were never used interchangeably and everytime someone was referring to the smaller LC, they would always call it the Toyota Prado skipping the Land cruiser bit. I still refer to it as Prado, so do my friends.

    It's just usual teaser shot.

And no way we getting removable top or anything like that. Toyota is way to conservative to do something like that on this model, after 5 gens.

Can’t wait to find out the rear window is a pop-up like the LC and GX.

Means nobody will buy the new 4R, and I can get a good deal.

The EV model will be available in these states with the new law. Hopefully the rest get gasoline model.

There is NO WAY, Toyota brings out a 6th Gen 4Runner as an EV. Those states, if forced, at best will get a hybrid.

LET ME REPEAT, the 6th gen 4Runner WILL NOT BE an EV!

Perhaps the 7th gen, in the year 2525, will be.

I had to check to make sure it wasn't April Fool's day. People are losing their minds over a single photo. My guess is half of 4Runner owners will hate it because it doesn't have (insert your favorite current 4R spec) and the other half will pay huge mark-ups to have the latest and greatest.

I have it from a Toyota Plano insider, there is reason to be optimistic for the rear roll down window remaining.

It is abundantly clear, this is the case, by the intentional cut off off the teaser image, so we don't see the missing lower windshield wiper.

*CV axles. Frame will take a month or two.
Toyota could offer a full length panoramic sunroof. Combined with all the roll-down glass, it'll be 80% there. This avoids re-engineering curtain airbags, etc.

Perhaps. This is an option on the new Rav4 and Sequoia (below).

I would have thought they might put the wiper in the valence above the window like the 5th gen.

Hopefully your buddy is right! :D

There will be no EV, no way Toyota will make two entirely different powertrains to be available in separate states. Just the logistics alone will be a pain and they’re sitting on both a bunch of solid hybrid tech they’ll use across the board or lean on their other vehicles that can pick up the slack.

Thing is, it’s not about keeping the feature being smart, it’s all about the least (quality) inputs that will sell for the most. I definitely can see the engineers fighting for tradition but who knows if the bean-counters won this one.

The Sequoia lost the roll-down rear window, the Tundra kept it I believe. The question is that if the 4Runner loses the feature, will customers go elsewhere? Pickings are pretty slim in the category.

Who cares about the window. Ask your buddy if they are still using a sloppy needle bearing up front?
