That is a GREAT deal. I've been looking for a while now and haven't seen anything close to that. Assuming its 4WD...

Depending on your budget and wants will depend on the 4Runner that you should get. Is there a specific model, color, option, etc. that you must have?

    A 4WD SR5 Premium 2022 or 2023 new for $40k? Where? They tend run closer to $50k

I get monthly email notifications from my local dealership and they usually list new 4x4 SR5’s for under 40k. The catch is, you got to be Johnny on the spot and act quickly. I’m not on the market, but still get their email notifications.

You can find a TRD ORP for $50k. Hope the Texas market isn’t that crazy to have SR5s go for $50k

I’m looking at buying a 2014 SR5 Premium with 90k miles. Is that a lot of mileage to pick it up as the second owner? Price is 25k

As others have stated, it depends on how well it has been taken care of and any rust belt locations. I would personally stretch the budget and get something newer with under 50k miles.

As for rental cars, just because they don't show any accident history doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. Also, you will get dinged on resale value, if you ever decide to trade it in.

Still happening. There is a dealer outside Boston that is asking 70k!!! for a used 22 Pro. But they will put you on an open ended wait list for a new one at MSRP - estimated wait 12 months.

I went down the road 10 miles and found a dealer that had a 23 Pro incoming that somebody bailed on and I got it in 2 weeks for just under 2k over.

EDIT: I just checked, and that 70k Pro is still sitting on the lot 2 months later... :DHmmm wonder why there are no takers? o_O

Price seems to be relative to your location. In the PNW, you’d be lucky to get a 14 with over 70k miles for under 30k
New Sr5’s ’ on the lot are over 40k here

I rented a 4Runner for a week when I was deciding what vehicle I was going to purchase, I drove that poor thing hard trying to find it's limit. I would never buy a rental vehicle.

UPDATE: I'M IN THE CLUB! The 2015 Trail version was the clear winner at the end of the day. Low mileage. Single owner. And I even talked the sales guy down $1500.

I did check out a used SR5 through Avis. Drove fine and I actually liked it very much. But it had many scratches and dings and even a scraped up fender... all of which made me question what that vehicle had been through. I just couldn't see spending my hard earned money on a rig that looked as worn as it did. And damnit, if anyone's going to trash my Runner it's going to be me!

Although I didn't respond to each person's post on this thread, I did read them all. Really appreciate all the feedback.

    Thanks and Happy trails!

I have not seen what you’re reporting at all in central Texas. I was looking for 3 years and recently settled on a 2021 SR5 Premium 4x4 with 40k for $37000. It’s Toyota certified and was given the Platinum 125k mile warranty on the cheap.

No way no how you’re driving off a lot for $40k for a new SR5 4runner in Central TX, and definitely not a Premium with 4x4. Nope. Maybe as the lots fill up but for now new models are barely on the lot before they are gone.

I'd go for the 2016 and negotiate the price down as low as you can. I would never buy a rental. Other than that both trucks are almost identical.
