Just did a bunch of work on a customer's 3.4L 5VZFE Do not use Eagle Eye engine rebuilders down south! They sent me a set of heads that was way out of spec with some damage and ended up stalling fixing this guy's car for four or five weeks. I sent the heads back to them for them to fix or replace and they just returned my money and ghosted. A company in San Leandro called Japanese Engines and parts seriously got me out of a jam and built a set and sent them out within a day for me. I added them to our list of shops in the first post of this thread. Definitely going to use them again.

I bought this stuff for our 55 and then decided to throw some on the hardtop to see how it works. Pretty happy with it to be honest!

 

What product did you use? I recently tried Cerakote on different areas, and am waiting to see how it ages....

 

This one was the wipe on from vice grip garage. It is relabeled Poppy's patina.

I didn't have very high expectations for it and time will tell but I'm pretty happy with how easy it went on etc. I'm going to put it on the oxidized paint on my Corolla and then I'm also going to use it for what it's actually bought for which is the '55

 

Just worked on a 2006 Silverado 2500 HD doing airlift bags, rear brakes, front brakes, axle seals, transmission service.... Then a 2002 Ford explorer sport rear brakes, control arms in the front and a window regulator.... I'm ready to work on Toyota's again! Haha

 

Whoopsies. Probably not a good idea to go target shooting when it's this hot. A foam mattress kept reigniting. We hung out for a while after we were done shooting, and sure enough, it rekindled 15 minutes later! Good news is we had water and extinguishers.

I'm currently drafting another letter to our cabin HOA because VRBO/Airbnb renters keep leaving fires unattended and I have to keep going and putting them out at night. Good on you all for handling it appropriately! I keep a 5gal Indian fire backpack in our Runner whenever we are out and about just in case.

Yep... I am all for people getting out and enjoying the outdoors. Airbnb allows people to go places and do things they wouldn't otherwise be able to and I hope brings more people to the protecting and access public land side. Unfortunately, the bad side is handing a match to someone who doesn't know anything about fire safety in the middle of a tinder box.... And parties... It is quieter at my house than up at our cabin because of all the people and late night parties.

 

I must be old or boring because the way people treat rentals is soooooo far out of what I could even conceive. In my town this year people got in trouble because they got a rental DOWN the street from where they live. They trashed the house for a High school graduation and didn’t clean up because the $150 cleaning fee was part of the AirBnB charges. Blew up on Nextdoor and Facebook.

 

I don't understand all the recent carnage on Signal Peak this year. Here's another:

 

Wow... Ive seen a lot of issues this year too. Wonder if it is just the number of people getting into this or what. I have no idea on the one you tagged but the past two I've seen have been issues with inexperienced drivers going too fast. A couple ball joints and a wet transmission / engine controller that shut down one of those Mercedes trail RVs.

 

There was another one in this same spot two weeks ago, also with "shredded sidewall."

 

Is it the camera lens the reason why I see extreme angles on the front wheels? Or did they get bent from hard landings from too much speed on the trail?

I saw an almost new landcruiser back in the mid 80s at La Grange that looked like that from too much air and hard landing.

 

Driver said "looks like I snapped my upper control arm bolt," but IDK. Looks pretty built, which in my experience means more potential to screw things up.

 

In the 90’s my brother built and raced “tuff trucks” which really was just shitbox tacomas and crazy ass welding. His truck used to sit like that after the race at local rodeos.

good lord we have changed/grown up since then. Felt weird even typing that!

 

I am considering building a tube chassis for my '51 Willy's and basically making a Ultra4 race truck that looks like a regular jeep so I can drive it like an old man and put it on 33's and enjoy driving without breaking things haha. Overbuild so I don't have break things on the trails that most 2wd trucks can make it through haha!
