Thanks for the invite @Bodie the Dog. Located in Nevada County. On the hunt for fun day trip trails that are daily driver friendly, but still require 4 wheel drive. Seems like a diamond in the rough lately.

I don't spend much time north of Nevada City because of all the tweaker-sovereign citizen types, all the signs threatening to shoot me, and all the Jeepers, putting along without pulling over to let me pass. (Rant off.)

Signal Peak from the easy side for an epic view of the I80 region.
Yuba Gap to Emigrant Gap, via Big Valley Bluff for another epic view and far less people.
Heness Pass Road all the way to Highway 89, then return via Truckee and I80.
Drive up Sierra Buttes. Ignore the suggested trailhead and keep driving; you got this!

    See you on the trails.

Any info on how to get to the signal peak trail head from the east side? I tried going up there a little bit ago but only came across a jeep trail after a staging area that turned a little sketchy for my stock 4runner. I ended up going back down after about a mile or so.

Forest Road 85, off of the Cisco Grove freeway exit, will take you right up. Road 85 has been closed intermittently in recent years due to construction and emergency logging, so I don't know it's current status. @icyhotahs hangs out there sometimes, so he might know.

We've only been home 5 weekends this year, the rest of the time we've been at our place in Hope Valley doing snow removal and damage repairs but the county has not opened any roads except Blue lakes (paved) to lower blue. No dirt roads are open at all up there yet. It is going to be a mess up there with tree removal etc.

Most of the area near Pollock and Ice House is wide open. We headed up to Sugar Pine Reservoir this last weekend and were stoked about the water levels. The camp area is super nice and the camp hosts run a tight ship.

That side might be better but the Carson side is all locked up still. Super disappointing. "Public land". I will stay off the soap box but their management of pretty much all things is unacceptable. Long story short, we almost lost our place a few years back because they decided to watch a 1/4 acre fire for 16 days rather than put it out OR allow wood cutting in the area for the past 10 years... Just sayin

OMG, please don't get on the "rake your forests!" bandwagon. Being married to a retired fire fighter, I do have some crazy Forest Service stories but I also know it is a very complex situation, not as simple as the local redneck paste-eaters are making it. Forest Service still gets overtime and hazard pay, for one, giving them an incentive to maintain the mopping up stage for as long as possible. (CalFire just wants to put it out and get home.)

The big issue is also one of budgets. They don't have enough staff and money to adequately manage the forests for resource production and recreation. Can we please peel off some tax dollars from the military to spend on US, the tax payers? Decent healthcare would be nice, but I'll settle for the opiate of well-maintained parks and infrastructure. How about free entrance to parks? True fact: the annual maintenance cost of just 50 Abrams tanks is about the same as all the revenue from entrance fees and campgrounds in our national park service. How about we give 50 tanks to Ukraine and let our citizens use the parks for free? Radical idea, I know, that most of you will push back against, because SOCIALISM!!!

Our nation isn't broke, the money is being stolen. We can't manage our forests without money, and guess which industry is getting it all?

Yesterday, near Stumpy Meadows Reservoir. I found a new spot that will be producing for years!

The forest in our area is just to thick so putting fires out is just getting to hard/unsafe for our fighters. I am an advocate for responsible thinning/logging. Keep it pretty, keep it safe, that's all. I am amazed they still haven't opened some roads I our area because liability/tree fall and won't let the public (or volunteers) go and clear the trails. Someone cut the lock on one of the trails last week. I in no way condone that behavior but at the same time I am having trouble being to angry at them. We walked up the road and found a few trees that they cleared from the road. The locals are getting fed up with being locked out of public land so laws are starting to be ignored which is to bad.
Excellent find on the crystal! My daughter still has hers hanging in her room from that trip you took us on! We are heading to donner area this weekend for some rock climbing!

I’m looking to swap my catback for OEM if anyone is interested. I have a Flowmaster American Thunder on right now but need to cut and make adjustments. It also has a black chrome tip.

Were you hauling firewood on a towhitch carrier? I thought it was you, but couldn't see the plates. Right about in front of your cabin, too.

First time in my entire driving and auto repair career have I ever seen with my own eyes losing both headlights at the exact same second. Last night on the way home from Tahoe, turned the headlights on and had nothing. I've never actually seen it happen that way before. I have to assume aging light bulbs and maybe a small voltage spike or something. Very interesting

I just had my first snow run of the year around Crow's Nest and Tinker Knob. Just a couple inches of snow on top of hardpack dirt, with bald tires, makes for such good times once you get over the pucker factor.

Did you ever finish shoveling out your cabin from last year's snow? :)

Got our Christmas tree without losing any fingers, despite a couple stouts at the Foresthill tap house. Snow level is still pretty high, past China Wall OHV.
