I just happened to watch Ronny Dahl video on roof rack calculations which was based on mishap to Tyler Thompson's roof rack. I know they are Ausi YouTubers but sharing as I find it informative to me if I decide to go for a roof rack I would not buy until I calculate the exact specs.

As a note about the iKamper Skycamp Mini: Plan for a different mattress. The included one is complete garbage.

Also plan to add some anti-condensation mat or so under a mattress. It isn't too bad, but there is some condensation build-up.

prinsu with a sky amp mini, currently not running the small lift they sell to get it a little higher, had to get creative so it wouldn’t rub on the roof.

I've heard some pretty crappy reviews about em'. I acquired a therma-rest mat from a lady in my neighborhood who had no clue what it was. Would that suffice for a replacement mattress or at least close enough to one?

What did you put under it to keep it from rubbing?

I had to grind down the ikamper mounts but I have about 4-6 mil clearance in the front, the backs were fine. I put a few washers to lift it up a few more mill. I had a set of those fugly “Jdm” console inserts, soft rubber, so I put those under the closest spot to the roof. After doing this I did notice the lock washers for the mounts rattle a lot, I taped those down.
Still not 100% happy with this setup and am eye a kb voodoo rack for my tundra and at that point I will move the tent to the tundra

This is my 2014 with a GFC RTT, pretty great for a low profile RTT and one of the lighter options on the market.

If you are looking for a rooftop tent, you may want to consider going rackless as that's where you will save weight.

Regardless though, all RTTs are heavy and that's the main thing to consider when purchasing a rooftop tent, in my opinion. All these parts add a ton of weight and having additional top-mass on the top of your 4Runner which already is prone to body roll is something that definitely needs to be considered when purchasing a rooftop tent.

You don't "need" a rack to add an RTT but it's nice to have one if you're adding/removing your tent a lot.
