Ever see Caddyshack? That was from the hat scene with Rodney Dangerfield LOL

Maybe trash was a little harsh, but I really don't like the look, it just looks unfinished and out of place.

Opinions will always vary. It's hit and miss to me.

Plus, I know you like the new Bronco, so I know to take your opinion with a grain of salt.

True. And honestly, I was way more excited when the Bronco came out than the 6th gen.

I totally understand. If you're looking for a fun vehicle, the 4Runner isn't really it. It's a very practical compromise.

The Bronco is weird to me, because it's like the reliability of a Jeep with the capability of a 4Runner. But, it looks neat, I guess... If you like ugly headlights and cheap fender flares.

Good point! Enthusiasts love unreliable things that look unfinished.

Generally, the Prado has been more of an off-road oriented vehicle than the bloated LC for the last few decades. But, ok.

Agreed, just irks me when they try to hype it up as something it is not. The cruiser the aussies get is freakin sweet. IMG_0668.png

We can dream. But, I don't ever expect to see one of those on American soil, unless it's been imported.

I'm not offended by The Prado, I actually really like it. I don't know what a "rea"l Land Cruiser is, Land Cruiser is a few different models around the world. Honestly, I don't think the 200 or 300 series really lived up to the Land Cruiser name, those are just a bloated luxo barge.
This is the Land Cruiser I want, the 76 Series. This particular one is Ronny Dahl's in Australia, I believe it's lifted 2 - 3 in to run 35s. Solid axle front and rear, twin locked from the factory. This is the brand new one, it's running a 2.8 L turbo diesel four-banger. He did a comparison against his V8 turbo diesel 79 series, and this one runs better.

Yeah man, when the Bronco came out it was just COOL to me. Removable top, removable doors, front locker, 35s, 7 speed with granny gear, that's awesome! Yeah it's turned out to be an unreliable turd, I personally would not buy one, though I like the look. Yeah, the flares on the raptor look stupid, but I do like the simple flares on the other models, because they come right off if you hit them on a tree or something like that, whereas the 4Runner would have thousands in body damage for the same rub.

I never had any intention of purchasing a Bronco, I just think it's cool that Ford came out with something like that. If Toyota decided that for the Gen 6 4Runner they were going to do a carbon copy of the Bronco, I would be super excited about that and would be in line to purchase.

Agree that reliability wise, one might as well. Just go all in and get the Wrangler, at least you get maximum off-road capability.

I went back and forth between the Wrangler and the 4Runner, and bought the 4Runner for all the boring practical reasons.

I wish for the 40th anniversary they’d have come out with the 6th gen and done a throwback to the first gen. Slap a removable hard top on it. Keep the rolling window in the back and the side windows that wrap up on the top…nice nod to the first gen. I think cars have had enough throwbacks, it’s time for Toyota to show Jeep and Ford how to do it. I think a modern version of that classic 80s front end would look great!

I do like the idea of the flares being a kind of off road buffer.

I was hoping that they would get a little adventurous with the 4Runner redesign. Not surprisingly, they seem to have played it safe.

It's just a little weird, though. They have plenty of similar sized crossovers for the soccer mom market. I guess it's all about sales, and satisfying the masses

    I agree with your statements!
And I really like the 6G doors and windows.

The front of the 5th gen is a bit buggy yes, it had to grow on me at the beginning to be honest.
In defence of trashy viper cut, I’ve invested and installed everything needed to support steel front bumper in future. Regarding my poor man’s high clearance bumper, the symmetrical cut made that evenly follows the diagonal line under fogs, looks better than some others who went off angle or too high/low imo.

I also took a unique approach at bottom of cut, no curve at the valance, and I sanded, sprayed black, & lightly bent those lower bumper cover mounts up with a sledge :p

i dont think toyota will ever bring back a true land cruiser to the usa shores again. just isnt a well defined demand for it (general public) to justify it. now the rest of the world, they go thru them like butter on toast like a daily meal so the demand is way more to justify it. i bet .AU had a higher demand in 1 month than the usa had in the last year the real land cruiser was sold in the usa (guessing here)

i remember my dealer only sold 1 land cruiser in a year before it was discontinued

New Sienna has it too. Great feature for a minivan. People who buy minivans actually need that feature.

I think they had to include 'T O Y O T A' on a grill, so neighbors won't ask the new owner how they like their Outback.

I don't really care about the new design - I bought in 2019 and expect to keep it until the wheels fall off.

What attracted me to the 4runner (this is my first) was its legendary reliability. I didn't care that all the online reviews ripped it for being an outdated dinosaur with no tech - I actually liked that.

Now that it's been updated and has the new tech, time will tell if it retains its reliability. Sucky thing is that reliability will probably be measured against other manufacturers reliability with all the new buggy tech, not against the reliability of the previous gen. But, if it does prove to be as reliable as the 5th gen, and my wheels do fall off, I would consider getting the 6th gen. The reality is it will still probably be one of the best available unless another company suddenly decides to put an emphasis on reliability

most people consider the 70 series the current true land cruiser and maybe 200 series. 300's are ok since they where the last xxx series to sell in the usa.

the prado is just a mini LC outside the usa sorta like the LC 250 for the usa.

here is a good chart to denote the different series and the types

You're still getting more peak torque than the 4.0 and way more at lower rpm. I don't understand your "You can't do anything with turbo" statement. What can't you do with a turbo that you can do with a NA engine? Turbo responds way better to a tune and runs just fine offroad (if you ingest water, yeah, it will eat your turbo but if you ingest enough water to do that, you're screwed with a NA engine anyway).

You can't do anything about turbo(to avoid it) is what I meant. The whole industry is going there. I am fine with turbo, but I don't like hybrids

well the hybrids in the bof vehicles are not meant for mpg really, especially on the tundra and sequoia. and toyota never marketed the tundra/sequoia as mpg once.

and the hybrid motor is sandwiched between the engine and trans unlike traditional hybrids with a motor at the wheels.

I doubt @Yotaholic is worried about anything related to MPG. I think its more to do with one more thing to break/replace eventually, vs a ICE where there is just the powertrain. More complexity. Battery has limited lifetime. Even though Toyota has done hybrids forever the cost to replace is nonzero and life of battery is noninfinity.
